Its a little tough to bring in veteran talent with no cap space. remember the amount of dead money from Whaley & co? Trusting the process, in this case, its just like the escape from Shawshank. We’re just at the beginning of the 500’ pipe, and a long way to go, which may include a potential 2-14 season this year.

Grading the Pegulas Thus Far
george c replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even intelligent billionaires have a learning curve. Initially the Pegulas felt they could buy a championship, buy chemistry, and have it all now. The change IMO, was when Brandon’s style of “zero end game” thinking and result was let go, while placing their trust in McBeane, and building for the future instead of spinning the wheels today. . Early grade, F. Today’s grade B for recognizing the issues and dealing with them,. Final grade expected to be B+. -
. You’re on Probation? Let me guess why..? My “projection” from your “historical trends” are that you won’t be allowed to post in the near future.

Well not every team has the GOAT at QB.. And the 32 team that does win a lot of Superbowls (NE) may be the most refrained FA spender of the 32. In fact, they usually let their best, most potentially expensive cap killers walk. Coincidence?
-
...and lost. Although, I do agree with your post. The difference is that NE is the perfect team to sign someone like Mack because with Brady, Gronkowski and co., the are always ready, and the timing is always right with the GOAT on your team. No such talent here..yet. He do “get it”. Obviously, McBeane gets it too.. Also, nothing like making a hypothetical response sound like fact... you know what they say about “assume”. We can assume the cap goes up in the same way we can assume injury to said player, and the sudden hole to fill without cap space for the position.

We have seen this movie a hundred times, just the names change.. Great teams do not break the bank on a single non QB player. . The Bears will suck, Green Bay will handle him, Rodgers will do what great quarterbacks do, and their will be unbearable pressure on Mack as the easy scapegoat. . I certainly wouldn’t want to be in his shoes come November. Well, maybe on check deposit day of course....

Perhaps age was a factor, but wrecks defensive scheme doesn’t mazimize the use of a DE like Mario. He was a stud for 2 out of 4 years, very good for his first season and marginal to mailing it in for the last. But the scheme was horrific for him. Hes was an elite wide 9 edge setting pass rusher. _————————————————_ 29, Good in his first season? Really? I remembering him as a total failure in his first season. I remember a “wrist’ injury that let single lineman block him the entire year. I remember him unbelievably underachieving..

You are confusing football with golf.
-
I can agree that his talent was first ballot, but his work ethic may keep him out..
-
Do you remember the Legion of Doom? Built entirely through the draft. You draft, develop and play them out on a rookie deal which allows you to spread finances around and build a team. I believe we call it “the Process” here in Buffalo. Signing big contracts to a bad team is the sign of a GM who has no other answers and no clue about building a winner.
-
Bingo! Right on the button. But...I remember Mario a lot different than you. I remember an underachiever who took plays off.. I remember a guy manhandled signally by a rookie Jets guard. I remember a guy with only a handful of good games. I remember a Texans team more than sick of his work ethic. I remember a J.J. Watt scoffing at the loss of Williams. I remember countless posts and columns on what a bust of a signing he was. I don’t ever remember hearing a single negative post or column about Mack..
-
For years, the NFL is littered with single great defensive players with huge FA contracts on bad teams that consistently go 6-10. Just look at the Bills for reference.
-
Big picture folks... Does Mack play left guard? Center? Right Guard? Maybe right tackle? ? Maybe Reciever? Maybe clone himself and play as two receivers? Possibly quarterback? We suck on offense, we won’t be able to score large amount of points, and hopefully we can keep Peterman from getting killed. Mack, with all of his great ability makes no difference in 2018, and probably little difference in 2019. Probably a big difference by 2020 with two more McBeane drafts, but those two years of now and tomorrow, he makes NO difference in our overall team record. . So many holes.. one player, and his huge cap hit is just two years too soon. Let’s let the draft play out next year.
-
I applaud McBeane for not doing a Russ Brandon here. Yeah, Mack is probably the best defensive player on the market, if not in the NFL. And no Mario couldn’t hold Mack’s jock. As the 2018 Bills sit, the objective is to get better as a whole, and not buy a super expensive part that would put people in the seats and raise expectations, but won’t make a difference in the process. The timing is all wrong, and the rest of the team simply doesn’t have enough talent to win the division, let alone a championship. If we did amass some offensive talent to go with Mack, it will be towards the end of his deal. If we didn’t suffer through the Whaley/Nix years and their cap baggage, we may have had more necessary parts that may made the Mack signing something that would have made more sense now. Right now, it just doesn’t, and it should make all of us feel confident in where we are going. I am sure they made an offer that made sense towards the process, but nowhere near as irresponsible as what used to go on at OBD, and nowhere near as money/draft killing capital as the Bears.

I get exactly what you said, we disagree. So many bad player decisions. A horribly written contract by overrating Darius and signing him to that ridiculous contract and other cash payouts crippled the Bills. I think the rest of the world agrees with me, or otherwise he would have secured another GM position. Where is he now?
-
We sure had a lot of his dumpster diving specials wear our uniform, I agree. His best record with all of that discarded trash from other teams? Yeah, don’t bother...
-
Spot on. For the 5th year, the Raiders walk away with an enormous ENORMOUS haul...
-
NO, he didn’t. Other choices like head coach, continuing by doubling down with a flawed EJ. , and ofcourse giving up two firsts for the third best reciever in that draft...while ironically ......passing on Mack. Sorry, we totally disagree, and so do 31 other NFL owners who don’t want his services as GM.
-
This trade will be right up there with the Walker trade the Cowgirls made.. Just bad for the Bears....
-
You are what your record says you are...The guy was absolutely horrible, and his record displayed that.
-
Child, please....
-
Exactly.. and who is to say that Mack doesn’t develop Albert Haynesworth disease with all of that guaranteed money he is about to receive...
