Sullivan: Bills' McDermott choked away Super Bowl-caliber season
Billsfan1972 replied to QCity's topic in The Stadium Wall
Again it's one thing to make mistakes through out the game and it's another thing to lose leads and make bad decisions. Heck if it wasn't for the last 13 seconds there were other times during the game that we can question the coaching. The point was a screwed-up 13 seconds never done before. Should I go back to 2020 & the Houston game? Unless the Bills win the Super bowl or two-six, those 13 seconds will be the defining Legacy of McDermott. -
What should we talk about? Never ever had happened before, but McD did it.
-
Because McD wasn't the coach?🤣
-
Oops just having fun and using your thread. Of course you made no excuses because there's no excuses to be made.
-
Btw just turned on ESPN that no team has ever done this before in 13 seconds. So please stop making excuses for the Bills coaches. Again this is what we should have been talking about after a loss though some of them are grasping at straws. Things happened throughout the game however the last 13 seconds is all that should be talked about and rightfully so.

Peterman never should have been the backup either. His inability to coach or understand the QB position (and what offense was) for 3 years (yep 2 with Allen) was troublesome. Actually I have no idea why I said Great.... He's a GOOD Coach. Apologies.....😜 -

I was very critical of how they brought him along year's 1-2 as I thought it was too slow. However when McD finally realized that 300 yards passing and scoring 30 points was not a bad thing, well the rest is history. Remember it was McD who thought Peterman was a starting NFL qb. Or Dabol gets all the credit. McD is good, but does at times rub me the wrong way. -

Or you lucked in to a transcendent QB, that will help cover up every deficiency/error you make for the next dozen years??? McD I've come around on. He is a great coach, however some things he does, decisions and missteps continue to confound. -
A repeat of what should have been the SB???? Now watch the Rams lose to the 49ers.....😜

Looks like the call to squib may not have made it to Bass
Billsfan1972 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall
Whatever happened it was a colossal failure (as I've said umpteen times). It rests on the coach unable to execute the final 13 seconds. We can look at plays every game where there are wrong decisions/calls. This called for micromanaging only 13 seconds.... Can someone with knowledge explain what the process is prior to a kickoff? Call me dumb, but the players and the kicker have to be together and told what you are doing. It's like going to a huddle and everyone is there but the QB??? I know too (I swear) that somewhere in the back of my mind that on Sunday I was thinking with 17 seconds to go.... "Don't score too quick"... -
A lot of things went wrong that game, but that was over 60 minutes..... Here all we expected was 13 seconds of coaching..... 3 plays, if they did one right, they win.
-
Only answer if Bass blew it, is no one told Bass and he did what he did all game, which is kick it through the endzone. No kicker try a pooch kick that sails 70 yards in the air, and his approach for high short kicks is like a FG....
-
Already broke it down. He kicked with the intention of getting a touchback. The kicker has to be told what to do and teammates be ready. Really simple. Touchback left right middle squib 5-10 yardline Not rocket science.
-
No it wouldn't have been in that cold. Doesn't matter, it's over....
-
They went 44.... Is the FG good from 57????

Farwell looks after all aspects of ST. The one there can be no issues with is kick coverage, with the longest return all year being 31 yards and an average under 18. Squib or Pop-up (the two I wanted and all numbers pointed too with the clock running) or through the endzone. I find it unfathomable that they were not on the same page. The call was to kick it deep. Some say Bass kicked it too long, which as I pointed out in the first post was wrong, reviewing every kick. I then made the argument that the better options had a much higher probability of success. To say it was miscommunication is next to impossible to believe, because that is the kickers one and only job (kick it as told to by the coach (left, right, down the middle, through the endzone). -
Yes but the game would have been over for 5 seconds as that took 18 seconds to go 49 yards vs. 45 yards Sunday!!!!!! You buried the lead......

Cleansing my soul, then I will let it go

That happened twice Sunday and I was screaming at the TV (and people at my place) as to how stupid those calls were. Both times the Bills had gotten 6-8 yards on 1st down & and each time stubbornly ran the ball and did not convert). But these are the little things I thought I'd be complaining about if there was a loss. KC could argue that Reid got cute on their 3rd & 1 at the 11, lining up a TE at QB. 13 F'ing second brain fart...... -

And I heard from a source, that Frazier said "Don't worry about big chunks down the middle of the field or defending Hill or Kelsey, protect the sideline out pattern"😜 -

It's simple the coaches job was not to allow KC past the 50 yard with 13 seconds left in the game. Analytics says you make them return it (as I shouting at the TV and am no coach). When that didn't happen, the defence's job from the KC 25 yard line again is not allow them to advance the ball more then 25 yards in 2 plays. They failed there too. That is on MCD (the self appointed most prepared coach in the NFL). Epic Fail!!!!! -

No I was not wrong. There was a 44 yard return, which would have been an on-side kick. I posted it off Footballdatabase and counted every kick. All TDs were 98-102. Bass was kicking them all year when the Bills called for it to the 5-10 yard line (probably not the wind game). The Bills ranked 3rd in average yards allowed on kickoffs too. Longest return was 31 yards this year. I've done the math in other threads. As for Christie, that was a lousy kick that was fielded at the 30 yard line. A squib should be going to at least the 10-15 yard line and pop up to the 5-10. -
So many..... I have commented on the kickoff, because I am not a defensive guru, but seems obvious there were many things botched up there. As for burning 13 seconds and not allowing KC to get to the 32 yard line, I was screaming at the TV (like Romo too said on the telecast) to make KC return the kick and take seconds off the clock. To me that was a major mistake. A kick to the 5 yard line would have burned a minimum of 4-5 seconds (with a 20 yard return). With 9 seconds and I don't see them getting beyond the Buffalo 45 yard line and that still I think is a stretch.
