  1. And again, how would ODB have looked on the Bills with the OC, EJ & KO throwing him balls? What about all the teams that passed on ODB and the fact many thought the Giants drafted him a little early too? Would ODB have caught the pass SW did vs. Detroit setting up the GW FG (or was he still injured). No one knows. How many layers really do blossom after a bad rookie season (i.e. Ebron)? How many high draft picks who put up and ave a good rookie season regress (net of injuries)? Could go on, but am convinced those unhappy with the trade are more upset that they can't debate who to pick 19th this year, vs. the production. BTW I asked ages ago for someone to post the ESPN Insider article claiming it was a bad trade.
  2. Watkins is very good. He is someone I'm excited to watch and cheer for. There is no way that the Bills would ever target him 23X's a game unless KO was throwing it away, which he was a significant amount of times in 2014. Heck if there was a stat tracking catchable balls, real targets, missed opportunities or double coverage, I'd like to see that. I don't really care about woulda/coulda/shoulda on a draft choice that is id/late first round. We got a very good player (without a doubt)...... The people arguing the trade are those who would have been happy with Ebron (though pissed the Bills didn't take ODB) and excited at the 7-9 (or 6-10 season as Watkins doesn't impact 2 wins the last second in 2014) and talking about the 9th pick this year..... Pathetic.....
  3. Apologist for what???? Getting a great pick, who won the Bills two games in 2014 and looks to be a star for years to come (with any passable QB)????? What a bust!!!!
  4. What we do know is that Ebron was underwhelming year 1 and Watkins had a very good first year (and could have been much better), showed flashes of greatness and barring injury will be a very good receiver. Ebron showed nothing (and actually was more so a bust)..... But keep on posting......
  5. Don't you get it..... JTSP (who still hasn't posted the ESPN Insider article of the OP) is pissed that the Bills went 9-7, as opposed to 6-10 and that largely is SW's fault by winning games vs. Detroit & Minnesota. Bills traded, got SW @ 4, as opposed to Ebron @ 9, a 6-10 record and the 7-8th pick this year. JTSP is right that SW cost the Bills again!!!!!! Forget enjoying wins and his play.......
  6. The difference is, is that they got the call right yesterday. The ball touched the ground. We see this all the time and regardless if the receiver would have held onto the ball or not is moot. Bryant made a great catch and as he was coming down, unfortunately it hit the ground as he reached out. Those who think he caught it, would have said the ground can't cause a fumble if it bounced out when he reached for the endzone. What the problem was he didn't ensure he made the catch and that is his fault. The Detroit call/non-call/reversal on the other-hand was a joke.
  7. BTW JTSP you started the thread yet have not even posted the article, which you references (ESPN Insider), so few can even critique what was written..... Smooth move.....
  8. Still waiting as to what you think ODB would have produced on the Bills as per the thread title. One year in and ODB has much better #'s, however was not responsible for two last second wins as opposed to SW. However I'm more then happy cheering for someone (SW) as opposed to commenting on the footwork of some offensive tackle...... Let's make it simple JTSP.... How many games did ODB win for the Giants in the last minute?
  9. Yes I expect significant improvement from SW and hope that the HC search pinpoints what the chosen one will do wrt the offense. I look forward to the vitriol if SW drops a ball next year. ODB was double teamed by the end of the year???? SW was the majority of the year. Now look at the Defenses SW faced.... NE (and Revis X's 2), Miami, KC, Houston, Cleveland, GB, Detroit (#1), Minnesota, Denver..... NYG had an easy schedule by comparison and some of the worst d's..... So JTSP how many targets and catches you think ODB would have had as a Bill in 12 games as per the title?
  10. And we all are in agreement that SW had a very good rookie season, that could have been better with scheming and a qb, yet we lament what we gave up a 19th pick. I don't get it...... How about a QB being excited to play with a great receiver. Add to that as a rookie he was targeted by every defense. As for the 4 drops, I'm sure someone has a better stat and will claim 20 dropped passes? And I don't remember a really bad drop (ie. a long pass or one in open field with room to run.
  11. Ok JTSP, we all agree ODB had the catch of the year/decade/all-time, but does he make that catch vs. Detroit reaching back behind his body, keeping concentration in the middle of the field and tip it to himself, which set up the gw field goal or does it just stick to his hand? How many here have claimed SW drops balls? He dropped 4 all season. It's subjective and yes we see what we want. Every time it seemed SW was about to breakout and have monster stats, KO stopped throwing to him. And targets are a joke when you'd watch KO or EJ throw it behind, over his head OB...... Watching him run clear or used as a decoy was too a joke. ODB is a great receiver, however in the context of the Bills offense he would have looked meiocre and I can't see how his stats/game could have been better.
  12. and plays 12 games? I've gone through the stats and targets for the year in other posts. We know people here note SW's drops (4) and I thought he had 15 by the comments. ODB had 2. http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/drops/2014/ ODB Caught 70% of targets vs. 50.8% for SW. So as the title states, how many catches does ODB have on Buffalo? A fair assumption based on these stats is 45 at best and we'd wonder if we should've drafted an Offensive Lineman..... Yes these non-stop comparisons drive me batty!!!
  13. Obsessing over the draft when we traded and got a gifted productive receiver???? Get a life..... Really makes no sense. Now if we traded up to get Eric Ebron (or someone else who did not perform) then maybe there is a debate. I really don't get it. Lets take it a step further amongst those who deride the Bills and really like 6-10 season. Detroit & Minnesota games were definitely won thanks to Watkins. The catch he made leading to the 58 yard fg by Carpenter was one of the greatest under-appreciated catches of the season. Damn 9-7, when we could have been 7-9 or 6-10 without SW and had the 9th pick, that sucks!!!!! While no one has actually posted the insider article I am am curious how they could come to that conclusion and whether they actually watched KO do very little to help SW during the season. Sorry a bird in the hand is worth more then two in the bush.....
  14. I just too noted the spread was Tennessee -5..... There must have been quite a scene in Vegas too.
  15. You mean completing 2 passes for 23 yards as part of a glorious 38 yard drive?!?!?! We should have milked the clock to no time (before kicking the FG), but with RJ's lack of pocket presence there was no way to trust him not getting sacked again......
  16. I have to re-post what I wrote in another thread as I too noted the anniversary..... If anyone is a wrestling fan and know what is referred to as "the Montreal Screw Job" thïs well may have been the "Tennessee Screw Job"..... After Ryan Lindley & Andy Dalton's performances this weekend, they stack up closely to what Rob Johnson did vs. Tennessee that Saturday. Remember how dominant the Bills defense was that day? Stave McNair threw for 76 yards and won!!!!! That first half was as bad as any I remember and that was a game the Bills should have won 24-6 with only competent QBíng. Everytime I would hear the Coach (on WGR) or people here claim RJ left the field leading, I cringe...... http://www.pro-footb...00001080oti.htm The first from an offensive standpoint was a joke and the way the defense played the Bills should have been up 10, not trailing 12-0...... Just because I had to I revisited the play by play and RJ was sacked 4Xs, lost a fumble, sacked for a safety (fumbled but recovered) and Tennessee scored after the safety. RJ completed a 15 yard pass on 3rd & 21 and a 14 yard pass on 3rd & 17 to pad his statistics. When Flutie did not come out to start the third quarter, it was obvious that the decision to play RJ was Ralph Wilson's.
  17. So what????? We gave up the 19th pick and have Watkins vs. let's pretend Ebron. This ODB love is all well and good, but with KO throwing the ball to him and him missing 4 games, we know for a fact that he would have been lucky to catch 50 passes and many here would be unhappy. So Ebron + 19th pick vs. SW or ODB (much worse #'s and injury prone) + 19th pick. Sorry I take SW!!!!!!
  18. That first half may have been as bad as any I ever witnessed from an offensive standpoint...... Just because I had to I revisited the play by play and RJ was sacked 4Xs, lost a fumble, sacked for a safety (fumbled but recovered) and Tennessee scored after the it and completed a 15 yard pass on 3rd & 21 and a 14 yard pass on 3rd & 17 to pad his statistics. 19. Isn't this the 15th anniversary of the Music City Miracle? After Ryan Lindley & Andy Dalton's performances this weekend, they stack up closely to what Rob Johnson did vs. Tennessee that Saturday. Remember how dominant the Bills defense was that day? Stave McNair threw for 76 yards and won!!!!! That first half was as bad as any I remember and that was a game the Bills should have won 24-6 with only competent QBíng. 20. Great and I only start caring after Labour Day!!!!
  21. The point simply is that we got a great player, and actually had a winning season in spite of putrid offense and qb play. I'm excited that there should be improved O next year and that this will be a point of focus (at least hope so). Beckham on the Bills would have been derided for missing 4 games and have caught (if he did catch 70% of the balls thrown to him like he did in NY) 62 passes..... If KO as inaccurate to ODB as he was with Watkins that # would be 46 (51% completion rate) and Bills fans would be up in arms that he was chosen too high......
  22. This Watkins back and forth for 9 months now I find ridiculous. There are so many hits and misses and so few sure things..... Yep get lucky in the draft or draft well and it will reap rewards, but I posted this elsewhere and don't understand how this actually was the impetus for Marrone leaving (not that I really care that he's gone)..... How terrible it is to be a Bills fan and get excited about a gifted offensive player as opposed to lamenting what we may have drafted at # 19 in 2015...... Maybe we should have kept the pick, drafted Ebron & gone 6-10 again? Would that make people here happy? Can we all agree that Watkins is a very good player and could be great? BTW First Round Buffalo picks..... Not too many All-Pros http://en.wikipedia....und_draft_picks

  24. I look @ 50% completion rate and how while the targets each month ere the same the completion % decreased. This can all be blamed on Orton and the lousy play calling & routes. ODB caught 70% of passes thrown and became the focal point of the offense, while Sammy was just another receiver. People pointed to Sammy dropping some early in the season, but saw few later and almost no catchable balls downfield after a while. Either playing hurt or just incompetence by the OC.
  25. And Marrone did a lousy job utilizing Watkins. Why too are people so obsessed with drafts when they are almost always hit or miss? Buffalo traded, got a stud and as a team your goal is to have as bad a draft position as possible the next year (i.e. go 13-3, not 3-13). If Marrone after a 9-7 season, where Watkins was responsible for two wins (vs. Minnesota & Detroit) is holding a grudge, that tells you more about the man.
