I know it sounds stupid, but I watch and wonder whether TT reads the defense when he gets to the LOS. Does the OC allow him to audible? He is great in eluding the rush and running the ball, but it seems that there is no ability to change plays at the line of scrimmage, look at the defense or coverages and that the play is the play is the play and TT has no say whatsoever. Yes I look at Watkins every time and where he is lined up and whether he should be targeted. It seems obvious almost always as to whether TT will even look in his direction. Also would like to see the team hurry up on offense every once in a while.

Wow, Watkins healthy and 3 targets......

How stupid is that????? If he is healthy you throw to him. Sure I can understand a snap count, but again it was just stupid seeing him not in on third downs and if anything as soon as they got to the LOS you could read that it was stacked and Jax was prepared for runs. -

That's what I don't get either. Does TT not adjust at the LOS? Is he on a short leash with the OC? I watch the Bills at the LOS and and I swear they've never audibled or used hand signals. The first 26 minutes Sunday Jacksonville knew the defense to call and the Bills refused to adjust. -

That is such a simple playcall (back to back catches by SW), that it should be available 2-3X's/game minimum. Other teams do it over and over. That is why I don't get it. -

He was on the field but TT wasn't looking at him and few plays thrown to him. I really don't get how he was on the field more then expected (and taken out on a # of third downs) and this is a bad thing. Until the last quarter of last year he was woefully under-utilized. The first 2-3 games this year was the same thing. You have to trust your best player and design plays for him. There are simple throws that can be made and soften up the defense (ie. his second catch or a back shoulder timing pattern). -

More then the QB. The OC and schemes are terrible too. -

Every QB and Offense in the league is capable of a 300 yard passing game but the Bills. Makes absolutely no sense. -

But if the play is not called for him and he is the third checkdown it's too late. He should be the primary or #2 option. 18 throws (19 if you include the PI and he was targeted 22% of the time). Again this is a replay from 2015. -

This is no different from last year and watching TT get the LOS and not even look at SW and always have him lined up outside (seldom in the slot). YAC last year was lousy too. A new OC and seems exactly the same playcalling. How the Bills continually rank near the bottom in passing seems to be a result of the most vanilla pass routes & schemes imo. -

Nope according to cbssports & espn, 3 targets, 3 catches..... One 12, one 6 & one 62..... Not sure TT looked at him any other time. Yes & one PI you're right........ So add another 18 yards. Sorry first play of the game should have been a throw to him announcing the Jax that he's back....... -
Quite the offensive game plan. You have your best player back and Bill looked at him 3 times all day (and once back to back). This is pathetic.... Yes it is the old "You have a Ferrari but only take it out in the 25mph school zone. Conversely they did win the game, but yet again a struggle and little in the way of offense as Jacksonville knew what the Bills were running every play.

Where's Watkins...... Night and day if he's playing @ 100%.

I was wrong, and I don't mind saying it..

And I stand by my analysis (and have been consistent since last year) that this was all Roman's doing. At least hope it is. -
Watkins - Here we go again
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod goes to the LOS. He waits 20 seconds for a play call and doesn't "survey the field". Often times I see Watkins in a good match up but Roman has called "his" play. Frustrating to no end. Vs. NYJ a great pass to Goodwin, a busted play where Salas was wide open and 2 last drive where down 13 points indicates the lack of thinking on Offense. -
How hard is it to look at Watkins and how he is being covered? He doesn't do it and Roman seemed happy with that as he gave the orders.
-
Great post. I have blamed Roman since day one and hope I'm right. Watkins was picked fourth overall to be a star and Roman did everything he could to stifle it. The creativity and pass game s abysmal. Yards after catch is non-existant and timing patterns seldom. Watkins made an inordinate amount of catches solely on skill not easy passes. Watching teams and receivers run open and then watching the Bills is tough. Here's to better days.
-
Greg Roman simply did not use Sammy Watkins. Pass routes and planning by Roman takes him out of the game from the first play. A minimum of 8-10 targets a game is a no-brainer.

Watkins - Here we go again

Geez and another pass interference on a pass to Beckham already because they throw it to him. Three targets in their frist two possessions. -
Happy to see Roman gone. Any Bills game plan that doesn't have Sammy as the cornerstone is stupid. This has not changed and Roman is to blame. Terrible schemes, play calling, no sense of urgency and easily defensed and it never changed. Two weeks and all of 8 targets, and they never even look his way.

Again I'm perplexed. Watch other teams and the motion, the ability to get receivers the ball in space and run a two minute offense and then the Bills and what looked as vanilla an offense as there was. As said every game looked like a 7 point game one way or another as there was no real panic or change in philosophy (outside the 3 win they dominated vs. Indy & Miami X 2) He did not do a bad job, just failed the following: Refused to target Watkins the first half of the season. Still underutilized the second half In game management and adjustments below average (KC) Tendency to let other teams back into games or stick around due to playcalling (NYJ x 2, KC worst examples) Formations looked the same 16 weeks (until the Jet game) Awful 2 minute offense Inability to come from behind (outside Jax game an eventual loss thanks to 2 minute offense) Fourth down & short yardage calls 3 & outs And for the day they showed they couldn't run the ball even when they tried.... Outside TT they had 33 rushes for 62 yards..... They were going nowhere rushing the football. Of all the issues with Roman, you choose the first two possessions vs. the Jets?
-
But all those new formations we saw week 17, the 3rd down conversions, short passes with only one viable receiver (the one ignored the first half of the season so much that he went public with his discontent) and a running game that was lousy. I can't understand how it all came together in the final week, in less then ideal conditions against a good defense. Oh and a team that only played well when ahead and showed no ability to come back the second half and ran a putrid 2-minute rill....... vs. NE, KC, Wash (still lost by 10), NYG, Phil...... That is why I'm not sold on Roman at all.
-
Some good things, but waiting 'til week 17 to throw to Watkins, different formations and over the middle makes me question any accolades. Add to that, too many bad play calling, 3 and outs, terrible 2 minute/hurry-up offense, no real comebacks, no 300 yard passing games, red zone failures and an offense that always played like it was a 7 point game (when down 21) were all very concerning. If he learned anything I'm cautiously optimistic.
