McDermott - Better Lucky then Good?????
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Depends how they happened. This year the opposing team had the ball and a chance to win on the last drive in each case and somehow the Bills won each time. Only convincing wins were NYJ (week 1), Oakland & Denver, which were all at home against teams that won 5, 6 & 5 games. Only win vs. team with a winning record was Atl..... -
McDermott - Better Lucky then Good?????

And I pointed out the NE games and the officiating and booth reviews. I am just stating that this run from McDermott is really unusual..... I can't remember so many things going the Bills favour and where easily they could have lost 3-4 of those games, the Bills did not. And in almost every case they let the other team back into games. -
Something else when you come to think of it. The Bill are in the playoffs....... So take this thread for what it is. Every second guess this year, bad decision, questionable call and I am convinced that McDermott was wrong, yet not once did it come back to bite him in the ass..... He is the luckiest coach I've ever seen (outside Belicheck and officaal calls and reversals). 6 times (Mia x 2, KC, Atl, TB, Indy) the opposition had the ball with a chance to win at the end of the game and the Bills somehow survived after giving up leads and letting teams back in the second half and each time the Bills got a break, a turnover or somehow held on. Think about it..... Miami we trounced twice for 40 minutes and then tried to give them a chance to win. TB we got a fumble and then by luck converted a third & 7 with again a run to ice it. Indy a missed fg, kicking from the 41, Brissett missing a wide open Hilton to give the Bills one more chance and 30 yards further to go, and then Webb completing a 35 yd hail mary in the snow (yes I'll call it a hail mary). Atl missing on 4th & 3 from the 7 (and a PI missed on the play). KC another Int. I really can see the Bills up 13-0 vs. Jax and again trying to eat clock the entire second half and Bortles throwing another game ending int..... Let's hope it lasts another week and then it is NE again.

And I'm proud that it was me..... Btw where is SaviourPeterman to add his $.02?

And this is exactly about interpreting things as one wants to believe. The Diva crap is just that. Good players > then bad players with right attitude..... Also winning attitude and results helps. Name me Divas on winning teams and if anyone cares at all...... They're only trouble when losing..... Offense & Defense have been meh at best. 6 times (Mia x 2, KC, Atl, TB, Indy) the opposition had the ball with a chance to win at the end of the game and the Bills somehow survived after giving up leads and letting teams back in the second half. Addition by Subtraction - Really believe that? Bills do overpay for RB and should and too should have some WR's..... They are important in an Offense first league. Keep drinking the Koolaid...... -

What did he do yesterday? Going to blame him for the Offense again turtling the second half. His fault that the D allowed a no name QB to almost beat them again? 163 Yards passing the first half and again very little the second. Watch Brady vs. The Jets? He looked very mediocre. I still don't trust the process. Their record is pretty much the same as it was in 2014, 2015 & 2016. The difference is we got the breaks this year. -
No there were many here upset that Taylor plays and cost us draft position. Heck 9-7 and no playoffs and there'd be many threads complaining that the Bill screwed up. The NBA now has teams playing too well and management unhappy ( Chicago being the prime example).

Please take a look at my posts from November when I outlined the Bills making the playoffs and their first round opponent would be Jax..... I then also went apoplectic when Dennison played for a tie vs. Indy. 8-7-1 would not have gotten the Bills in the playoffs. Again a second half where they did their best to give up a 19 point lead against a QB no one ever heard of and tentative play calling on both sides of the ball. Been quite the year.
-
And I'm counting the days -til Dennison goes and the Bills are smart in building for the future with a first round qb and Tyrod being the bridge. They'll be scenarios to get Peterman in there as there was vs. Miami.

And that they turtled vs. Atl, TB, KC, Miami x 2 and went 5-0 in all those games while the opponent had the ball under 2 minutes with a chance to win..... I expect to win every year (or at least compete for the playoffs). -
You caught me!!!!!
-
2000 all over again? Since Tyrod is being waived/cut as so many say/want, shouldn't we prepare for the future with Peterman (our saviour)? This year went up in smoke as our draft position was pooched and that 4-12 season was screwed with Taylor at QB.... What now?

He did his best again to turn a blowout into a nailbiter. The Bills were 7-7 going into week 16 last year (lost in ot and sat their starting qb in week 17 and lost). They improved 1 game this year and made the playoffs and we should have a parade? Really another lousy second half and the Bills hung on. McDermott has been okay and the Bills are in the playoffs. Certainly am eating no crow. Heck I think they can beat the Jags too but that doesn't change my opinion on McD and certainly not Dennison. -
2nd Half Thread - Week 17 - Bills at Fins
Billsfan1972 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How many times do we need the exact same script and he learns nothing. -
The trade was made and the Bills did a lousy job using him in their offense. You play the cards you are dealt. When playing poker and you have A spades, J diamonds, 9 hearts, 6 spades, and 3 clubs, you don't discard the Ace (Watkins) & Jack (Darby)........ Trying to keep it simple and not try to use Bridge analogies......

Interesting to see in May it was 9, by the time the season started it was 6 (googled). So the coach/ho was responsible between May and week one at reducing the the w/l by 3 games. Now I know why I was so pissed at the start of the season and we see some seem so happy with the 8-7 record and some not so thrilled. Sorry not overly happy with the results from management and will take a wait and see approach. Think about it..... We know the affect a QB going down has on the W/L for a team, but the Management in three months with their trades and statements reduced the Bills expectations by 50%!!!
-
I watch too and like many times you know Goff's reads and the play call and Sammy isn't part of it. It is what it is, and anyone who denies that his absence hasn't affected the Bills is full of it.....
-
Single coverage or lost in formations and and that's the call Goff has as he won't throw into coverage. Watch the games and come back when Watkins signs his contract.
-
As far as receiving is going he draws the opposition's #1 cb and help. That's indisputable. You can't catch passes when not thrown too or thrown away. Goff is still learning and is hesitant to throw to Watkins. Agian targets low and looks away from him if McVay doesn't call him as the primary target
-
The HO and Coach basically gave up on the Bills in the preseason and sold some fans as to how bad the team would be coming off 3 okay seasons. As said like all skill players playing on non playoff teams all they worry about are their #'s and their next contract. Watkins would have made a difference without a doubt.
-
And what would have been so wrong trying to have a .500 team (past 3 years) win 2 more games and make the playoffs????? 17 years people. This notion of superbowl or bust is a dream....... Make the playoffs, get lucky with a franchise/top 10 QB and cross your fingers that things bounce your way...... But keep drinking the koolaid that McD & Beane are smarter then 31 other GMs/Coaches......
-
How naive are you? Sounds great, but on a non-playoff team I bet almost everyone in a skill position wants the ball and to put up stats...... Geez even defensive backs and cornerbacks we see fighting over an interception or intercepting a fourth down pass and costing their teams 20 yards all for stats. How the heck can an offensive/defensive lineman be "me first"?
-
Disgruntled? If he was it was because he did not get enough targets, which was obvious based on the stats. Pre-season game #2 they targeted him repeatedly and he caught the pass. Very easy to appease a good player, feed him the ball as long as he performs. Would have been pretty simple and helped TT, McCoy and the offense.
-
Revisionist history..... If the Bills were high on Gaines (who was not going to start for the Rams, they could have gotten him for next to nothing. The Bills wanted a second rounder for Watkins because they were in tank mode before the season even started. That's what turned me off...... Watkins was signed for 2017 and certainly there is this weird thing in the NFL where players get paid what they are worth on the open market. How dare someone get paid "fair" market value. Those who are banking on the Bills in 2020, good luck...... I was about the Bills in 2017. There is no doubt the Bills would have been better with Watkins, Darby & Dareus this year.
