Sammy Watkins: New Teams, Same Bad Attitude
Billsfan1972 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really???? Because they gutted the offense???? The 25-25 record??? They seem to have gotten it 50% right, with a very good defense and little thought to the other side. If ever the jury was out it is this regime. -
Sammy Watkins: New Teams, Same Bad Attitude

He missed 8 games in 2016.... Players get injured. He was recovered as far as we knew & ready for 2017. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WatkSa00.htm In 2016 he had 1047 yards in 13 games, which is a 1300 yard pace.... He averaged 16 yards a catch.... That was not too bad a start to a career. And paid $14,000,000/yr.... Some pretty stupid GM's (oh & going to the SB btw), while the Bills are smarter then them? He had injuries, not the first & not the last..... Playing soft & not much effort. Show me examples. If not targeted enough it is difficult imo, but didn't see it & this is the false narrative people love to point to without any proof. Actually look at KC, & frankly it is very much focused on Kelce. -

No this thread was started by a Watkins hater wanting to stir up old threads/wounds & explain why he was traded and that he has a bad attitude. Watkins fans, and yep as the #4 pick by Buffalo I was excited for a stud #1 receiver who was traded for nothing to do with his on-field play, it was frustrating. Again for all who disliked Watkins (probably only because the Bills traded up to get him, like they did with Allen), what did he do on the field that warranted him being traded & not have played for the Bills in 2017? -

Would have rather seen what he could have done for 2017 as the Bills #1 receiver. I really don't know what happened in LA as he should have been the #1 option, but was not. Going to KC he was behind Hill & Kelce & after week 2 was not overly targeted (6/game). You can only catch when thrown to. Even his catches yesterday he wasn't the primary target on many of them. -

He's not coming back..... I just never understood why they dumped him for next to nothing when he was the #4 pick, put up very respectable #'s & had recovered from his 2016 foot injury. The Bills needed a #1 receiver & he was under contract (and they controlled year 5). -

He was working out just fine in Buffalo (some injuries unfortunately, but was health training camp 2017)....... The problem was not enough targets. -

People forget that.... The guy got injured in year 3, it happens.... And then they flush him & the O down the toilet in 2017, for what? He did nothing bad on the field as a Buffalo Bill..... And the hate because they traded up to get him? Or is it because in McD we trust???? Maybe he skipped a Prayer Group????? -

The Bills Offense is not good & has been lousy the last 3 years. Yes Sammy would have helped...... -

30th, 29th & 24th ranked Offenses.... Yup that's a winning formula.... 25-25 under McDermott..... Trust the process.... -

I shake my head at the hate for Watkins. He was very solid as a rookie, a 1,000 yard receiver year 2 & 8 games in his third. He caught almost everything thrown to him & unfortunately had a low % of targets. The new FO & Coaching Staff decided to gut the offense & never gave a decent answer as to why they did that. They haven't recovered since and some of us wonder why the hate for an exciting offense. -

He's their 3rd option.... Hill & Kelce being 1 & 2.... They probably didn't need to sign him, but he was getting $12-15,000,000 and has been effective. -

Yep & many here were thrilled.... Lemmings -
Of course I got it & knew that someone would point to it as proof you don't need passing to win. I thought the NE game was terrible & the fact they were successful holding on with a 1 point lead the second half was frankly luck. Baltimore on the other hand continually self-destructed & panicked (much like Dallas vs. the Bills). I could also point to KC or NO's Offense..... Tired of people pointing to the top 5 passers in 2019 didn't make the playoffs as this year was an anomaly.... Dallas too has made the playoffs with a good offense & you forgot to mention Atlanta. What amazes me is while the Bills have made the Playoffs 2 of 3 years, year 1 they backed in & this year the schedule helped, that McD's coaching record is 25-25 since he started, which matches the the 2014-16 24-24 record. To me the first two years of your franchise QB, you see what you have in him. They have not done a good in that respect.
-
Oh great, the Tannehill playoff stats.... Geez didn't see that coming...... And yes more work, confidence & play calling during the regular season & maybe the Houston game plays out differently. It is game time play that allows a QB to grow. Game manager is not what I hope is Allen's ceiling. More giving McD & Daboll a pass.....
-
Too much respect for McD imo. The issue is that I wanted to see 2019 be the season of Allen and to have a better understanding of what his potential is. I thought way too conservative and again at half a season behind in his development. The high point is a 230 yard performance against Dallas..... Really that's the best we've seen..... I wanted at least 2 eye popping games. We didn't see it and one then wonders if we ever will under this regime and their talk. How do you attract skill offensive players? Sell the. That your team was ts to be a top 10 offense..... not 24th and the same OC.
-
My issue with all this is that the Bills by drafting Allen should have been all in & worked hard to see what they had in him this year. Too often we heard & saw game manager & you expect more from the "franchise" qb. As others said & those who believe in the Process, we are a year further in & they should have a better idea what they have in JA. I look at bad games like the Pats (wk 4) or Philly & then saw a lot of games where one could say Allen was good or blame the OC. We saw games where the Bills were good for maybe 2-3 quarters. The only really good games were Miami X 2 & Dallas. I look at Baltimore 14 & NE Week 16 & 100% hope it was Daboll & bad play calling that stunted Allen. My point is simple as per this thread. If the Giants (or Cleveland) think Daboll so good, then that means he's gotten everything he can out of Allen and was able to with a "sub-par" QB generate the 24th ranked Offense in the NFL. I hope however I am right & in-spite of a lousy OC, Allen was able to generate the 24th ranked offense!!!!!?
