Week 3 PFF Grade of Josh Allen
Billsfan1972 replied to mykidsdad's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And again where did he rank in week 3? I believe 400+ yards 4 TD's, no Ints (or fumbles) didn't get him in the top 10.🤣 -
Is Josh Allen too good to be true?
Billsfan1972 replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The way McD coached the prior 3 years, I'd say YES!!!! Again 48 games & not a single one over 300.... No team went a season doing that over that time period, much less 3. -

No I disappear after the season is over & yes my #1 concern is watching games that I can enjoy. Yes I said it over & over that I though Allen was hamstrung by the coaching and the offensive weapons they gave him. 2020 is a new story. I will freely admit that I'll be thrilled if the defense gets gashed all year if that means Allen throws 300+ and the Bills are winning. If you want 17-14 smash mouth, 1974 is calling.... BTW please remember the Bills record under McD pre 2020 was 25-23, the prior 3 years it was 24-24. -

Temper it, because I expect 300+ every game. Heck when you go back to the SB years, you realize that Kelly didn't do it that often. Yes I expect 4500 (minimum) to 5000+ yards this year & wondering is that reasonable? The point of the post is that I am truly excited and enjoyed the first three games more then the last 48, and yes that is 100% because of the offense played. -

Yep returned to the board once the national nightmare was over (48 games without 300 yards passing😜). I can't get over how much fun the first three weeks have been and that the offense is now imposing their will on opponents as opposed to whatever you want to call it in the past. I have pretty much held coaching responsible for Josh Allen's "shortcomings" and stand by it, but will now say am very impressed with how 2020 has started. However again I look at the two rookie QB's in Cincy & LA and again wonder why we held him back, which I know I posted many a time last year). While not winning (and not excpected to) Herbert & Burrow are getting valuable snaps and throws, that Allen was not from day 1. And those teams will know exactly what they have. Also look at what Arizona is building around Kyler Murray in his second year (oh & he did have Larry Fitzgerald in his rookie season too). Compare that with Darnold, who like Allen year one has a mess of a receiving corp and questionable coaching. I know I am giddy & expect 300 every week, but understand there maybe some speed bumps along the way, but I do wonder what the ceiling is, now that they've let the car out of the garage & let it on the highway. -

Week 3 PFF Grade of Josh Allen
Billsfan1972 replied to mykidsdad's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The fumble week 3 was one no QB could avoid (and Allen almost did). Horse Collared, Facemasked and thrown violently to the ground by Aaaron Donald. Oh and no time at all either to react. Yep 100% Allen's fault. -

And how did Lamar grade vs. KC? Bet they will say many incompletions were catchable balls. Oh and that dig that they were to open receivers is typical. -

You mean like the 2 minute Highly Questionable Clip where they doubled down on the Allen hate and Dan tried to praise him without saying flat out "I was wrong"? How about you scour the internet? I'm done with you as you don't even know what you're saying. -

Read the OP...... I explained that I thought the vast majority never saw Josh in College and yes are still writing about him as if they have followed him since Pee Wee..... I contend they did not, read other's scouting reports and still hold him to those reports in to his third year. If the scouting report is that has was an accurate passer, they would have looked at commented on all his great throws the first two seasons (and would have acknowledged undersized receivers, a bad line & many dropped balls). Because they said he was inaccurate, they focus on bad passes and the like. -

Again I have posted many who at best begrudgingly are impressed with Allen's 3 games, but like Keyshawn laughed/scoffed at MVP talk (prefaced that it is only 3 weeks). I gave examples and am not going to scour the internet, but many still are convinced that this is a three week anomaly. I was as per the thread suggesting that some just have extrapolated scouting reports from college (without ever watching him) and formed biases. Has Mike Lombardi said anything (a huge detractor too) as I googled him and found nothing. -

I think this clip said it all...... Dan saying how hard they have been on him, again trashing the PI call and Bomani calling the Bogus Int a bad decision (because no one has ever done that), pointing out Donald's strip sack where he facemasked & Horse collared Josh and violently threw him down & insinuated that Allen was the reason they lost the lead.... Nope no one is questioning him. Oh & Dan pulled out the stat that over his last 14 games 33 TD (Passing & Running) vs. 3 Ints...... Great stat!!!! Oh & PFF through 3 weeks has him behind Rivers & Brady...... Ha ha ha -

Actually that was not the point of the thread. It was that some people made up their mind about Josh before he played a game in the NFL, much based on College, which most probably never watched him play a game. I said all I cared was the Bills picked him 7th, throw him in, hopefully coach him properly & let's see what he is. The people still not sold on him are those who decided based on their readings of him prior to the NFL that he was a stretch at #7 and inaccurate. I have watched every game as a Bill & looked at the cup half full & blamed much on a lousy line, bad to middling receiving corp, way too many dropped passes & a coach who would seemed to muzzle the offense. -

Brady & Rivers through 3 weeks???? Brady has thrown 3 Ints too. Dak has lost 2 fumbles too & 2 ints & only 5 TD passes...... Same with Goff 5 TD's 2 Ints...... Here's QBR..... https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/table/passing/sort/adjQBR/dir/desc -

9th???? I'm sure that 350 page manual will still have Lamar higher. Okay Wilson, Mahomes, Rodgers, probably media darling Kyler Murray & Dak???? Really how he isn't 4th at worst is beyond me. -

Bomani, Foxworth, Keyshawn didn't say one positive thing when Orlovsky said Allen in the MVP conversation. Has Lombardi stepped back yet? Bill Simmons & Cousin Sal also were meh about it (and have laughed in the past about Josh). Heck yesterday's Around the Horn's first conversation was about the PI, which to me was pretty obvious & not what one would call a lead story. Usually one panelist would have turned it into what a smart play by the Qb throwing it to the receiver being held or then talking about his performance. But no..... Plenty of skepticism still and wait til he has a sub-par game (or makes a bad decision) & watch the knives come out. BTW his #2 receiver didn't play 2/3rds of the game. -

I disagree, many still holding on the the old narrative (and bet most never saw a single college game he played). How else too after 411 yards does PFF have him rated 12th last week. What was he rated this week? You never stop...... You mean they went 48-0 through that time frame? You mean none of the losses would have been a win if the Bills were capable of throwing for 300+ yards? This gets old.... Oldmanfan anywhere around? -

As said I'm not a draft expert and expect the teams scouts to have made a proper pick..... He was 7th overall..... And again back to the actual thread. -

I'll take more of them. Missing those 17-14 barnburners???? Want another 48 game drought? -

He was thrust into a playoff scenario (SD or were they already LA) and was the starter in 2018.😜 -
I watch college football, not religiously mind you. I see some players that look like they will be stars, but frankly am no scout. So the Bills draft Allen and all I care is that it is a QB with the 7th pick and yes expect him to be the "Franchise" QB. I expect growing pains and wanted him in early to learn. Of course wasn't a fan of McD and the Offensive teardown and his keen eye for professional QB talent (Peterman). What amazes me though about Josh is three years in and now three great, great games & the narrative is only slowly changing. For Lamar it changed very quickly, but some national talking heads continue to deride Josh Allen based on what I bet less then 5% even saw from his College days (i.e. inaccuracy). I never saw him in college and was thrilled Peterman was the bust we expected him to be and thus Josh was thrust in almost immediately. He played like a rookie year one with no talent around him, improved in year two with an undersized receiving core and coaching that was intent to pump the breaks once the offence scored 14 points (and shut down after 20). The point is almost no one saw him in college and he is still being judged by his college days and year one with a lousy offense around him. Only a few even know about the # of comebacks he's engineered.

Still muted.... Okay, but you can see they still want to be correct and making excuses. They did get it right that it is "Must see TV"
-
What is upsetting is that the national media has made a big deal about it, as if it was an egregious call. It was the correct call. Heck the defender too knew he was guilty as he put up his hands after the throw was made as if to say he was "not holding". Also after the play you did not see the team going apoplectic over the call. Upset yes, but not that they were hosed. While I don't always agree with Pereira, he is more often right then wrong and was funny that he stated, that after a # of dubious decisions he disagreed with, this one was correct.
-
Instead of starting another thread, will mention again after seeing that the PI was the lead topic on Around the Horn and basically two panelists said is was just a terrible call, with Clinton Yates making it sound like the second coming of the non-PI call in the Saints/Rams playoff game, I am amazed how much national attention the call got. BTW two other panelists tepidly said it was a penalty according to the rules, but probably wasn't catchable (Duh it was a perfect pass to where Davis would have been if not held for 10 yards).... It was PI/Illegal Contact or whatever you want to call it. The DB held him for 10 yards and the rule is pretty simple. Also helped that it is who Allen was throwing the ball to. If he threw it to Diggs, probably no flag. He threw it where Davis would be if he was not held. This was a simple call.
