Monday the weather was not good & can agree it did have an affect. When you see rain on the camera, you know it will be a factor. Sunday weather looks fine and yes it is the Jets, but the Bills need to get back to 300 yards passing and establish a running game. Yes pretty obvious, but important after the prior two weeks & the Pats coming up. So yes I want the Bills to bury the Jets, but hope they score some points so the Offense needs to produce & move the ball. I did a quick review as I have just been so down on the Bills Offense 2017-19 and note the Bills averaged 18.4 points/game (28th, 30th & 24th in the league over the 3 years) & 310 yards of offense a game. For context the league averaged 22.6 points/game and Mahomes in his two seasons 2018/19 averaged 303 passing. It's time for Bills fans to expect top 10, not mediocrity.

Again he was a top 5 pick, why wait & then have the same excuses year 2 that you would have in his first year. All the best QB's were thrown in day 1 (and the sad fact is QB's like Rodgers & Mahomes had to wait). How smart was KC trading Alex Smith? Manning, Aikman, Elway, Luck, Newton, Ryan...... You start them asap and figure out what you have. While I feel terrible for Tyrod & the circumstances, best thing that could happen for the Chargers & there was never an issue with Burrow. Thankfully Peterman lasted one half for the Bills, but Allen should have been the starter and wrking with the team as such Day 1!!!

How about 1 the prior two years (Tennessee missing 4 fgs, was no signature win)?๐ก

Again McD seems like a good coach to date. I've had plenty of issues with him, but definitely done some good things. What he has not shown is he is anything more then good (if that) to date. Again the issues 1. Terrible at halftime adjustments 2. Conservative close to the vest has cost the Bills wins 3. Blown out way too often 4. Record vs. playoff teams 5. Record vs. teams over .500, which is 5 wins in 2017-19 6. Terrible at challenges 7. Hasn't shown the ability to adapt 8. Named Peterman the starter in a playoff hunt & doubled down year 2 9. Only coach to go 48 games with out a 300 yard passing game from the offense 10. 30, 29 & 24th ranked offense first 3 years Also I wanted to start a new thread, but decided against it. 2017-19 the bills averaged 18.4 points/game & 310 yards of offense a game (context Mahomes in his two seasons 2018/19 averaged 303 passing) & you wonder why I clamour for some offense?

The Tire Fire is the narrative everyone loves to note with Marrone leaving & Rex Ryan being a bull in the china shop (those 3 years had the same record as McD's first 3 years). 2017 Playoff wins were vs. Atl & KC, which were good wins. The 2019 was vs. Tenn, where they missed 4 fgs!!!!!! I refuse to call 25-23 miraculous. Bills fans set the bar so so low...... Let's compare them to the Jets & Giants to get excited?

Huh???? We know the knee was down. I was explaining the scenarios where 2, 2 point converts would have given the Bills an opportunity to win or tie. The second scenario was if the Bills went up 26-23, then KC needed a Fg to tie, not win..... Here are the scenarios: 1. 23-16 miss 2-point Stop KC and a TD and kick is 23-23, another 2 point convert 24-23 Buffalo 2. 23-18 Stop KC, score TD & up 24-23, a 2-pont convert is the automatic decision & KC needs a FG to tie 26-26 3. 23-18 KC kicks a FG, which happened & 26-18 & Bills had 2 minutes needing to score & 2 point convert & time to move down the field. Not sure how many other options. If it actually was 26-18, you don't think the last drive may have been different?
-
Interesting, but not sure I agree based on the timing, knowing the D isn't particularly good, you're playing the Chiefs and you will have only 1 more possession (barring a turnover or an on-side kick). You may say regardless, but if they converted and it is 26-18, the last drive takes on a different look. Makes no sense, as should they miss the first 2 point convert, stop KC & score they still have an option to kick for the tie or 2 for the win. Conversely let's pretend the runner's knee is not down & they recover and score & are up 26-23, then KC needs a FG to tie not win.
-
Shhhhhh!!!! This does not fit the narrative of the McD cheering section......๐ Not knee jerk, but a statement of fact. I think McD is good. He has shown nothing to date that he has made the jump to elite (and you know there probably will be a game this year where he does & then we'll hear again how great he is). BTWS I expect the Bills top win their next 4.
-
23-16, you still again have a choice if you score a TD to make it 23-22 (if you stop KC).... To tie or win.
-
Well this thread brings out the McD disciples, and those not 100% sold on him. I have always said I don't like the way he coaches and many of decisions. His results have been good, but not as good as some will have you believe. I too was very excited after the first 4, and admitted that McD grew on me, and now however am pumping the breaks. Now yesterday some of the blame too can be attributed to the weather and no pushover opponent. Weeks 8-10 will tell us a lot more.

Same as "Almost Won" stats..... Bills almost beat Jax & Houston in the playoffs and were within a score of Baltimore last year...... Do we want to really play that game?????๐
-
The point is not that the Bills lost, but was it the right decision, as there is a posibility it happens again and then I'll bet dollars for donuts McD opts for the single point? I asked a question & think the decision was wrong and they should have gone for 2. If they made it & KC kicks the same FG, that last drive may have gone differently. It comes down to coaching and understanding the options and statistical probabilities.
-
Or go big & go for TD & 2 points & win 24-23...... No there were more options going for 2 at 23-16, then 23-17..... And remember extra points are no longer a gimme (ask Butker).....
-
As did I..... No real pressure (compared to KC on Allen). Unfortunately he's a rookie & was excited and got too amped. Again coaching. Regardless, the point was to give the Bills every opportunity. They make the 2-points at 23-16 a fg keeps it one possession. They miss and stop KC and score a TD, they can then decide to tie or win the game. Way more options if they went for 2. Too much to ask of McD.

Look it has been so long since the Bills had a team you got excited playing the Offensive side of the ball (20 years since a team was in the top 10, and during those 20 years averaging 24th in the league), that yes I am biased that I want to see exciting Offensive football & points. The way they gutted that side of the ball with what appeared no intention to get skill players (yes they drafted Allen) was a real issue in 2017. In 2018 they drafted Allen and gave him a lousy receiving core. And then there was always the Peterman fiasco (2017 & doubling down in 2018).
-
Not saying it wasn't. I just thought at that time going for two made sense however we know McDermott would never do that because he has so much confidence in his defense.
-
Or score a td and one 2 point convert and win 24-23. There was plenty of time left and KC did get a field goal. We're talking about one of the best offenses in the NFL.
-
I was thinking that the Bills should have gone for two at 23-16. If successful, then the fg KC kicked to make it 26, would have meant the Bills still could tie the game with another TD & 2 points. To me you need to be aggressive & wonder what the wonderful sheet says is the play at that time๐. The last drive (and int) meant nothing as it was a 9 point spread (2 scores).

McD made the decisiuon to gut the Offense in 2017. Are you counting 8-8 teams? I count 5, KC & Atl in 2017, Tenn x 2 (both years 9-7) & Minn (8-7-1). A true Murderers Row!!!!! Again we're talking an offense against sub-par competition who ranked 30, 29 & 24th on offense 2017-19 (and have regressed the past two weeks).
-
Revisionist history. The Bills were 24-24 the three years prior to McD, so give me a break. They also started gutting the team and yes their O/U was 6.5 in 2017...... 2018 it was 7 (oops went under @ 6-10), and 2019 7, so 2-1..... How about then we look at the wins & who they beat. 2017-19, not many highlight reel wins (KC & Atl in 2017?). How many wins vs. +.500 teams in 2017-2019 (I'm not checking, but the O/U is 5). He is a decent coach, who admittedley ruffled my feathers withg how he approached the offense years 1-3 (and seems to have regressed the last 2 games). Want to see some statement wins vs. NE (though I expect it) and some other opponents after the last two weeks and see something that says "McD really coached a great game". When you see the defense not just gouged, but not being able to make stops on 3rd down and the offense again look confused out there, not a good sign.
-
The Process, the process, the process...... So tired of hearing that. 25-23 his first 3 years and he was a genius..... 2 Playoff losses (both winnable games). I was too ready to buy into the hype at 4-0, because they had discovered that throwing the ball actually works in the NFL. Last two games the warts reappeared. The offense again looks lost & the defense is 30th in the league in stopping third down conversions (often 8+ yards). The stunt at the end of the 3rd quarter was classic McD and then lack of urgency was obvious.

Allen has stopped running??? Any reason
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't want him running like Lamar or Kyler, however it is an important part of his game that was missing in not just the Titan's game, but Los Angeles & Las Vegas too. -

Again yesterday we saw some good rushing performances by QB's (& expect Kyler Murray to put up #'s tonight). Hope Allen's feet are part of the game plan (i.e. some scrambles).
