Arizona is one of the most penalized teams in the NFL & Sunday they had only 5 yard penalties against them. I notice penalties that affect the outcome of games & Sunday there were the two above that had no affect on the play & were ticky tack @ best & cost the Bills big yards and crucial plays (21 yards into Cards territory on one, int the next play) & then a big third down conversion @ midfield that cost them 33 yards & a punt. I remember an earlier game where Hughes is dragged down on a third & long as he had a direct line on the QB that the opponent converted, but there was no problem as the flag was thrown. Those are plays that directly affect the game. The Knox & Winters I saw nothing & had no affects on either play. The Murray TD's were both on first down, even with a penalty they have 3 chances to score, so I am not going to get upset over them. The PI yep ticky tack but happens (of course the Bills didn't get a call Sunday), and yes need to protect Allen more (as they do other QB's).

Whether major or not is nitpicking. The offsetting penalties (on a fee play) that gained 21 yards was major (int the next play). The John Brown first down 24 yard reception too negated by a tickytack hold away from the play too I'd call major. Cost the Bills 45 yards and first downs.

Unfortunately there will be drops. This happened to be a major one.

Here you go..... Don't have earlier weeks but we saw plenty of longer passes. WOuldn't expect you to have any stats and as usual just complaining about my posts without any facts. https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/list/type/buffalo-bills/2020/week

Two huge penalties killed the Bills
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What screw-ups? Seemd the penalties affected the Bills way more and resulted in huge losses. BTW the Knox penalty, would have been assessed at the end of the play (and after the 21 yard gain), resulting in 1st & 4 if I am correct. Again plenty of mistakes on both sides, but Arizona's penalties were 6 yard ones & one 10 yard one. -

That was the tough part of the Knox penalty. It was already a free play, Josh made an incredible play to get a 21 yard gain and at the end of it Knox gets a chintzy penalty, negating it all and the next play was the Int. -
And they do this to every team in the NFL. The point is (and probably to much for you to grasp), is others still learn to adapt and the Bills now seem to be very much stymied by the changes.

Crazy how times have changed (for the better)
Billsfan1972 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was not at all worried that Josh would get the Bills the lead. Only problem was leaving too much time on the clock.....😜 In the past it was trying to come back down 17-14 where the offense was in neutral most of the game. -
And at the very worst times..... Ughhhh
-
Watch other teams that still throw it downfield. It is done. Oops, forgot who I was responding to.😜 That has been MIA of late.
-
I get it.... But seems to be working too well of late..... Again when they do that, something else should open. I hope yesterdya was just an off game (penalties really were huge too).
-
Something just seems a little off of late. Josh is no longer really pushing the ball down the field. We don't see long passes and wonder if the coaching is taking that aspect away from him. Granted the two Ints were longer throws, but just something doesn't seem right of late. Are defenses confusing him. Add to that Davis & Knox were complete non-factors. Add to that two huge penalties, that negated 20+ yard passes & first downs on ticky-tack falgs (one resulting in an int the next pass & the other a punt).
-
Arizona was offside so a free play and a great play by Allen & 21 yard toss while in the grasp to Singletary negated by a sloppy penalty. Next play was an int.... Huge play and consequences. Second end of the quarter and third & 23 & and 24 yard catch by Brown negated by holding. Two crushing penalties costing them first downs and big yards. Just a game that everything just seemed a little off.

They have an historically bad past defense they have to protect against the pass first and foremost. How we could not have done that I don't understand? I guess they can take solace in having seven sacks. But more to the point of the original thread, I thought it was more an indictment of how he thought McDermott would try and do.

A lot was made about Pete Carroll's incredibly dumb comment about prepping for the Bills run game and flabbergasted/surprised that the Bills threw against an historically bad defense with a great passing offense in perfect conditions on Sunday. All week leading up I was opining that please McD go out and throw & impose your will on Seattle and not play it like I have too often seen of this team and hope for a tight, hard fought, ball control game. Lo & behold they did exactly what they had to and Carroll's comments were laughable & mocked by many. But I wonder if Carroll was actually thinking "McD will try to establish the run, and try and control the clock & field position, because that is who he is and a leopard can't change his spots"? This weekend Seattle faces a similar dilemma vs. McVay & the Rams. Mcvay too wants a balanced attack and of course they should be throwing 80% of thge time vs. Seattle. Will be interesting to hear Carroll if McVay plays it like McD did and Carroll is again outcoached.

National TV game (sort of)
Billsfan1972 replied to ProcessTruster's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again stop with that heroic 17-10 vicotry of Duck Hodges.... They were scared to death that game on Offense and took 4 Ints to beat them. -
National TV game (sort of)
Billsfan1972 replied to ProcessTruster's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was about to post similar, though it wouldn't be negative in connotation at all. More like concern again after a week of hype, positive press and people again noticing Buffalo. I'd say LA/Sea is big late afternoon game Sunday (as most games later this week with The Masters on). I really want to see the Bills continue to roll and it is important another big week for the Offense & Josh. Much like last night, Rivers & Indy had to rebound & they did. This week is big too for Arizona. -
Question for those who witnessed the SB years?
Billsfan1972 replied to whatdrought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I went to the Giants game in New York in December when Kelly was injured. Two drives & they walked up & down the field on them, then the injury. That was the year there was only a one week gap for the Superbowl & the Bills were not ready after killing the Raiders (was at that game too) and everything surrounding the SB. The stories surrounding that short gap, showed how unprepared the Bills were, while the Giants had been there & knew how different a atmosphere Superbowl week is. It was as if they were annointed to win & instead were lethargic and allowed way too many 3rd down conversions. Then that last drive with over 2 minutes left and they just weren't in a hurry & only got to the Giants 29 yard line. Looking at the boxscore they kicked with 8 seconds to go. Today's NFL, there would have been 1-2 more plays for those crucial 5 yards. -
No that was his ranking week 2 vs. Miami when he only mustered 417 yards & 4 tds...... And again not respected by the national media..... QB Ranking after week 9.... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/week-10-qb-power-rankings-justin-herbert-cracks-top-10-patrick-mahomes-reclaims-top-spot/?ftag=SNL-04-10aaa0c&ET_CID=140767&ET_RID=12778099

Does anyone here have a subscription & can tell us where Allen ranked this week? Or Diggs......
-
My play was the 3rd & 6 near halftime where if forced to punt Seattle has a chance to score & momentum & the ball to start the second half. Rolls out under pressure, no chance to run for the 1st & hits Beasley for 23 yards on the run. Maybe the most important play & showed the maturation of Allen in full force.

Stephen's A-List - Top 5 NFL teams - Bills at 2
Billsfan1972 replied to SydneyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not that impressed with Pittsburgh. Winning yes, but one convinsing win vs. Cleveland and a # of close games. But they do have cupcake schedule. Don't like Stephan A shilling anyone.
