Bills fire OL Coach Juan Castillo
Trogdor replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had to get rid of him because he inexplicably hired the Oline coach before the coordinator. Castillo isn't exactly known for his amazing lines. -
So realistically, who do you want at 9?

Don't get me wrong, I really like him. Watch his college tape and you can clearly see why he was rated as an OLB. He struggles with recognition. I don't want to see him fail at MLB when he could be an all pro OLB. -
7 out of 10 losses against Playoff bound opponents.

At least 4 losses were defensive collapses. So not great. Those are just the blowouts. Dawkins loses a lot of 1v1 battles with terrible footwork. That isn't because the guard is bad. What about White falling off once teams finally started to go at him? Or the penalties and the disappearance of the pass rush? There are so many holes and problems on this team. McD still has trouble calling time outs. That doesn't bode well for a rebuild. -

So the fact that the Bills finished 30th in Red Zone Defense, or Dawkins falling off, or White's issues, and the continuance of penalties isn't a problem for you? How about special teams continuing to implode? -

Did you really see improvement? I saw a bad team finish the year on a very weak schedule. The game management, penalties, and missed plays we're just as bad. We clearly have different views. Improvement for me will be beating good teams consistently. Not just the Vikings in their weird blowout funk early this year. -

I'm not saying they should, but it's the Bills. There is about a 50/50 chance they fail. I don't put a lot of stock in the staff right now, so it really boils down to the draft. -
Crossman and Castillo? Who stays and who goes?

How do you not know your kicker is injured? Why would you keep shuffling in punters who can't handle the hold on a kick? The whole special teams sucks. You think Hauschka isn't irritated about this? Why is a defensive coach hiring offensive personnel before he even hires a coordinator? This is the crony type stuff he does that I question. Every move seems to be for a mediocre friend and without a thorough search. -

Or starting a new rebuild -
Bills sign Derek Anderson to extension

Yeah idk why they just don't make him the QB coach. The WR turned QB coach we have can be moved to another spot. -
Shaq Lawson 5th year option on the table

If he does play well you risk alienating him with that strategy. Players don't like the tag. This team has far too many holes to create another one and waste draft picks on it. -

We only got back into that game with Peterman...who then threw it away. -

I really like Edmunds, but he looks out of place and doesn't seem to be improving. He is big and fast but his technique is subpar. His biggest advantages play well to the outside in space. I'm glad one game against a terrible offense changes that though. The whole team feasted. -
2017-18 there were an all time high of 6 minority GMs and now 4. There are currently only 2 minority head coaches. The coaches in particular are generally prior players. Again in a league that is a majority black. Not all of it is race related, but it's a bad look for a league with a shoddy history of minority hiring.
