Upcoming 30 for 30 on Bills Super Bowl run in 90s
Thrivefourfive replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"This is a team, dammit!" -Darryl Talley. I hope it focuses on those huge personalities, and the city's unique good things. But most of all, let's rehash some love for the home field advangement. It was the toughest stadium to play for any opponent in the league for a nice stretch of years. The crowd and the conditions coupled with a blitzkrieg offense and Bruce Smith made The Rich an abosute nightmare for the likes of some of the greatest QBs of all time - Marino, Elway, Moon, and Montana. And of course, use this 30 for 30 to get Tasker in the Hall! -

I agree. I'm no doctor, but that was instant. He was down and rolling around in no time. I hate injuries -
Bills fall to 19 in ESPN Post Draft Rankings
Thrivefourfive replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It has not been this clear for the Bills in a long time. With their quarterback play, goes the season. I believe Roman will build a competant o-line for the running game and pass protection. All of the other positions rate above average, like receiver, to near the league best at runningback and d-line. If Cassel plays out of his mind, the Bills are 11-5, 12-4. If he plays better than expected, probably 10-6. And if he plays like Matt Cassell, it's 9-7, 8-8, or disaster. He's not very good I'm afraid, and the Bills won't make the playoffs. How many playoff teams in the past five years had a not very good quarterback... Sanchez and Dalton, and Dalton's regular season numbers have been solid for the most part. -
I'd rather have a caveman as the Bills QB who chose not to attend a primadona social bro-fest than a questionable talent who the Bills universe are looking at to lead them to the playoffs for the first time in 16 years . My god, he used to hold the clipboard for the absolute, unquestioned sworn enemy of the state. They were teammates in the NFL for a few years...one of them played, the other admired. Screw Cassel for doing this I say! Bad form.

The trade that obviously helps this team the most is for the quarterback position. Like Philly and STL showed us, you have to have a quarterback to trade for a quarterback. The Bills do not have such player currently on the roster. The other option, one that the Bills could do, is to trade some talent/picks for a backup where the franchise guy is solid for years to come. I believe there's a unique type of quarterback guru with scouting/knowledge needed to pull this off. And I do not believe the Bills currently have such a person either. Last resort(?) is the Bills will wooo a solid free agent in the offseason. This free agent scenerio would be very unique if we're talking a fanchise QB, as they usually always re-sign with their teams. The teams already have too much invested in them not to bring them back. Andrew Luck would be such a case, because the Colts have proven that they cannot surround their franchise quarterback who's in their prime with a comparably worthy roster. But then, the Bills would have to beat out almost every single NFL team to land Luck. But then there's the free agent who is good enough to WIN A SUPER BOWL with this talented team. He could be out there next year. I don't know. But I know it's not Cassel. I don't think we're going to like him very much after he shows us what he's got. Hope I have to eat those words. Two types of quarterbacks: 1. The franchise guy; and 2. The good enough free agent. The Bills want both. The the Bills will probably be drafting their franchise guy. So get some quarterback people on this job asap. Don't make TBD do it for you. In the mean time, sign a good enough to with the super bowl free agent in early 2016. This is your course, Buffalo.

A thread on draft party opinions. I'll go first: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu - very family oriented, and grandma(?) has attitude (saw her swat away the fact that Ifo hasn't been drafted yet!) Added bonus, I saw him play in high school several times since he went to school down the street from where I live. Comment on a draft party...

I like them. But traditionally, I wish the older franchises that have great uniforms would just run what they brung. Oak should never change, Chicago, GB, Dallas, Cleveland, Pitt, Chefs, Skins, should leave it, and all have basically. I would put SF in this category as well. They white pants and redder tops of the 90s were pretty cool on that SB team, though. Off topic...building a stadium in San Jose was the most disturbing team move since the Browns left Cleveland. They basically relocated. San Jose is a city of 1 million people!, and it's an hours drive from San Fransciso in your dreams with no traffic. There's always traffic. I still cannot believe they did this. It's like the LA Chargers building a staduim in downtown San Diego and still calling the team, the Los Angeles Chargers. Pooey.

Serious About Drafting Bryce Petty?
Thrivefourfive replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wonder what the West Virginia game cost Bryce Petty, if at all. As pointed out in the Gruden show, he did not handle pressure...at all. A key attribute of an NFL QB is being able to handle physical pressure, actual bodily contact, while concetrating on progressions and delivering an accurate ball to a covered WR. Petty is considered a project, I know, but would he be graded a half a round sooner if he didn't show this deficiency? Physically, he's got it. 6'3" 230 and a hell of an arm. -
Was the trade for Watkins worth it?
Thrivefourfive replied to Luxy312's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's say the Browns trade what's been rumored to get pick #2 - the 12th and 19th this year and their first next year (probably a top 10 pick). If Mariota isn't a top five QB in 3 three years, then The Watkins trade seems like an absolute steal. -

I'm confused...about Brandon Spikes

Because Spikes said this: Two questions for you... Do you really think it's a stretch that I made that inclination? And are you confused about the justice system in the Hernandez case? -

Thrivefourfive replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The race card is played....awesome!! What else can you throw in the way of Spikes thinking Hernadez got a raw deal for committing murder, or thinks that playing for the Patriots was in fact slavery?? I think OJ is innocent, so there... -
I'm confused...about Brandon Spikes
Thrivefourfive replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly, even in the midst of one of the most exciting off seasons in team history, it's still the off season. You're right...why I'm I saying Spikes wants sympathy for his brother..? That was an assumption in order to make a point. I think Spikes got enough attention on this one folks. I won't be looking to play the liberal/conservative game in a thread about the Buffalo Bills. For god's sake. Temper his opinions? It's his right. Stop tweeting? It's his right. Having a negative opinion about our justice system? Thank you. So do I. If I wasn't clear that he can tweet what he wants, but the two that are mentioned in this thread aren't going to help him any, then I hope I am now. -
I think Hull was a 285 guy? House was a big man. Frerotte and Ritcher couldn't have been more than 280. Wolford played under 300 as well at left tackle! Today's left tackles are 7'5" 499lbs. A modern day defensive front would have demolished that o-line.

I don't have time for Bills games. Darrel Young just vultured another touchdown from Alfred Morris so I'm pissed.

Great point about the time of possession. At the same time, the offense had opportunities to win the game and they let them slip away. The possession before the end of the half was idiotic at best, like you said Kelly's play calling. That and the opening drive by the Giants in the 3rd quarter was too much to overcome for that particular team. Kind of why I'd bet on a choke. Kelly played below is ability in all four Super Bowls. That's a shame, and no a coincidence.

I'm confused...about Brandon Spikes
Thrivefourfive replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure who's convicting Spikes of a crime in this thread, but that idea seems discussed more by the tolerant crowd here..? Irony is everywhere, my friend. It's ironic that we can discuss the meaning and consequences of a Spikes tweet and take the stance that social media is the reason why he's seen in a certain light, yet it's the reason why we can even talk about it with each other to begin. Yep, I did stupid stuff when I was younger also. But Spikes isn't young. He's a millionaire that has the ear of many many thousands of fans and his comments are found at the top of the World Wide Leader's webpage because they were dumb. I refuse to give somebody a gun and then blame the gun when he kills somebody. That's an exaggerated case of course, and Spikes has done no such thing (I hope), but the buddy he's defending did exactly that. It's not Spike's fault his friend killed people, but he certainly has proven to stick his foot in his mouth about some very serious issues where there's no room for mistakes. Issues that have caused millions of deaths. Should the Bills keep him around? More people in this thread say yes than no. And that's perfectly fine. He said some dumb things. It's not Twitter's fault, or Hernandez's fault, or because he's black and grew up a certain way. It's his fault and he's a big boy that can deal with that. I would only suggest that he stop posting stupid stuff because as a Bills lifer, Its disappointing, and it won't help him positive ways. If Spikes wants sympathy for his Brother, how about showing a little for the victim's family first. -
It cannot be that the current defense hops in a time machine and travels back to play. Bigger faster stronger has to be neutralized. The K-Gun couldn't do anything against the Redskins defense either. That was a good defense, but the weakest that the Bills played against in the SBs. If I had to put my money somewhere it would be that the K-Gun chokes. Don't forget, the kicker would have to be 11. There's no sense in having this make believe matchup unless it's in the biggest game - a Super Bowl.
-
Really interesting topic. You'd have to put both offense and defense into a vacuum... Also we probably need to pick one glory year. We are using the current defense after all. The best years being 90 and 91 on offense. Which year was better by the way? In 91 they had to make up for a poorer defefensive. Neither offense preformed up to their capability in the Super Bowl. The current defensive had fantastic year. If the offensive was semi competent, they could have been a number 1 unit. But, were they better than the 90 Giants or 91 Redskins? The 90 Giants had the better defense of those two. They held SF to 13 points in the NFC Championship game - 1 touchdown and 2 FGs. And they held Kelly to 0 TD passes in SBXXV and 17 points for the game. Could the current defensive do what NYG did, and would the K-Gun shoot blanks against it? Easy decision: yes and no. The K-Gun would win at home in the regular season, and the 2015 defensive would win in Tampa in the Super Bowl. Oh wait...now I'm talking about a Bills defensive in the Super Bowl. Futile until proven otherwise.
