  1. The only outside help Rex is going to bring in is his brother Rob.
  2. That clock management fiasco was another example of a dumb coaching staff out smarting itself. And no big plays on defense against a scrub like Kellen Moore?
  3. I disagree. Watching the series when Washington scored their 5th touchdown, I spotted three plays where Hughes lined up in three different positions. On his sack, Hughes was lined up with his hand down in a wide-9 DE position, which means he was lined up outside the LT. This gave him space to show his explosive quickness and he use his speed to overpower the tackle to get the sack. This was his alignment in Schwartz's defense, when he registered 10 sacks and caused havoc the entire season. Later in the drive on 3rd and 6, he was lined up at Left OLB. Why? Who knows. Duke Williams blitzed, Hughes dropped into coverage, and Cousins completed the pass to Hughes' side for the first down. Why would you drop your best pass rusher into coverage on a passing down while blitzing a mediocre safety? It's a decision of scheme over player strength. On a first down later in the drive, Hughes was lined up with his hand on the ground, OVER THE GUARD. He's only giving up around 80 lbs in that matchup, so it makes sense, right?. It was a running play, Hughes got crushed, and the RB gained the edge and ran through a Preston Brown tackle for the first down. Brown also got a PF penalty. Again, line Hughes up wide and let him crash the LT to hold the edge, and that run gets turned inside. So three plays, two of which it could be argued that Hughes was not put in position to succeed. The same thing can be said for Mario. These guys have the speed and strength to rush the passer and hold the edge when they are aligned outside the tackles. That gives them one or two free steps to explode into the backfield. They offer diminishing returns when you align them directly over the tackle (or the freakin' guard). They are basically useless when you drop them into coverage. This is what Mario is complaining about, and it's what we should be complaining about too. At the very least, on passing downs, both Mario and Hughes should be lined up outside the tackles. Instead, Rex has them dropping into coverage and is blitzing Duke Williams? It's idiotic. It's a total lack of situational awareness, and it's the main reason for the poor play of the defense this season.
  4. They're going to need to do more than that. In addition to the 4 players you mention they need to add on defense (LE, ILB, S, NT), they need to re-sign Gilmore and decide if they need to add another OLB. On the offensive line, in addition to RT, they have to make a decision on Glenn and Incognito. If they decide not to re-sign these two to premium contracts, they have to replace 3 offensive line positions, to add to sketchy starters Wood and Miller. When you add the #2 WR, we're now talking about 10 positions that need to be upgraded or resigned. And we're not even talking about the QB yet. 6 of those positions are on the defense, mostly necessary because of Rex's defense (it can be argued that if they move back to a 4-3, wide 9, they need to restructure Mario's contract and add a run-stopping MLB). In other words, if Rex stays, there will be no way to add the quality personnel needed to fully implement his scheme in time to make the playoffs next season. It's even unlikely that they would be able to add the right players two years from now to make the playoffs.
  5. Conversely, holding onto the wrong guy for 3-4 years is also nuts (see Jauron). Sure Kyle Williams is probably near the end of his career, but are we seriously discussing rebuilding a defensive front 7 that had 60 sacks last season? This most likely will require 2 to 3 years, which will probably push the playoff drought to 18 or 19 years. And do you trust Rex, with his recent track record to even pull this off? The real question is what does Rex bring to the team. Is he able to take this team to the playoffs (which probably means beating the Patriots at least once), and ultimately, can he take a team to the Super Bowl. I don't think he has it in him. Bowles is doing better with Rex's personnel from last year. Schwartz did better with Rex's current personnel last season. Put Rex in a room with those two guys, and he's the worst coach in the room. 3 or 4 years of Rex most likely means 19 to 20 years of no playoffs. It's a hard decision, but the last thing Pegula should be concerned about is this unwritten rule that changing the front office frequently is insane. The pragmatic rule is that you change the front office until you find the right people. There has been more than enough evidence this season that Rex and his group are not the right people to lead the Bills anywhere close to the playoffs.
  6. Lions made the playoffs last season. Lost to Dallas. The Bills own this mind-boggling streak.
  7. Here's something to consider; keep Rex and he probably adds his idiot brother to the coaching staff next season.
  8. And watch the playoff drought extend to 20 years...
  9. Terrible. His old team was a tire fire under him. Now the Jets are fighting for a playoff spot. The Bills meanwhile, have taken a step back. Nothing is going to change under this guy. Keep him, and next December we'll be having the same conversation about a stupid, undisciplined team.
  10. Season's over. Can we fire Ryan now? Seriously watching undisciplined, stupid football is soul-killing.
  11. Rex is already a goner. We know the type of coach he is, and it's not a good one. Whether he's gone in one year or three is the big question.
  12. I don't think Suh could have body slammed Taylor in that play even if he wanted to. He had no leverage due to his grip being too high and Taylor's momentum drove drove him through Suh's attempted tackle. Taylor's progress was altered, but it wasn't stopped. Usually in the grasp occur while the QB is going down and tries to throw the ball away. Taylor is not going down in this circumstance, so the refs gave him the opportunity to make a play.
  13. Dumping the players who set a team record in sacks, produced a high number of turnovers and finished in the top 5 last season will be a time-consuming and costly exercise. The easy solution is to match up the current skills of the players to the scheme that best utilizes those skills. This is on Rex. He can fix this tomorrow, but his ego won't let him do the right thing.
  14. Up 4 with 3 minutes left, Jags (the freakin' Jags?!?!?!) needing to go 80+ yards to win the game? You wouldn't have taken that scenario all day long before the game started? The defense blew it. We all know who EJ is: 3 horrible plays: 1 good play. But this defense was supposed to be elite, and it's nowhere close.
  15. My guess is that if you asked Ryan if he would take a scenario where his team is up by 4 with 3 minutes left and his defense was on the field, he'd take it every time. That penalty was horrible, but the Bills still led, with Rex's defense on the field to hold it. He and his defense failed. It was a chance to pull the Bills out of a bad situation with two weeks to heal. Because of this failure, the Bills have to go 7-2 the rest of the season to get to 10-6 (probably the record needed for the playoffs).
  16. Right, that 9 minute drive to start the second half was on the QB. Good thing the Jags are too stupid to put Yeldon in their short yardage package, or they would have ended the game right there. Nice half-time adjustments Rex, even though they stopped the Toby Gerhardt show, it still cost them at least two drives with the time the Jags ate. And then when EJ stumbled into a lead (because, again, it's the Jags), all the D had to do was hold the Jags on downs. No dice. Game in the hands of Rex and his vaunted D, they failed. How many QBs do you have to watch destroy Ryan's defenses before you realize what a fraud his schemes are. Brady, okay. Eli Manning, eh maybe. Dalton, c'mon now. Bortles? Give me a f'n break. EJ is what he is. But Ryan is supposed to be a defensive mastermind. The Bills talent on defense is supposed to be top notch. When are they going to prove it on the field?
  17. I'm with you. He ran his big mouth talking about having the greatest defense of all time, but when the chips were down facing Blake Bortles to close out the game, his defense turned into a folding chair. EJ sucks. EJ should not be an NFL QB. But the Bills had the lead at the end of the game. Rex's defense blew it. The PI call was a joke, but the Bills still had the lead after it was made. This is on Rex and the defense.
  18. Have to come to grips that the team I love plays horrible, undisciplined, stupid football. At least last season, we could look forward to watching the defensive line play. We don't even have that anymore, thanks to our blowhard, fraud of a coach and his outdated schemes. I'm sure that Rex will be given the mandatory, excuse-filled two years to try to prove he's an NFL caliber coach, even though there's ample evidence that he's not. At least we have the draft to look forward to. So let's fire up the threads to talk about the great players that the Bills won't draft, as they reach for a safety that fits Rex's idiotic schemes.
  19. The Bills are going to waste the next two seasons waiting for Ryan to turn this team around. And all they'll get is more of the same. Undisciplined, stupid football.
  20. Quote from my wife: this is like watching television in a third world country.
  21. This stream is borderline unwatchable. The NFL has screwed all out-of-market football fans.
  22. Maybe he confused EJ for Jameis Winston, because, you know, Parcells is an old man and all FSU QBS look alike.
