Tues. Buff News - Bills Ready To Go With Losman
Cash2Burn replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, it did not involve missing the playoffs. Drew was brought in to "bridge" the gap until a young "franchise" QB could be found to guide the team for the next decade. That's what's happening now. GW's ineptitude and Drew's rapid decline put the kabosh on keeping the team at a competitive level. Still, I believe the team is actually positioned about where TD wanted it when he laid out his agenda four years ago. -
Tues. Buff News - Bills Ready To Go With Losman
Cash2Burn replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's always a risk handing the QB job to a rookie (a red shirt one, anyway), but in the Bills case, the table's set for JP to have some success. The running game is stout, he can make plays with his feet if he has too, and most importantly, he has a defense that can put him in good position to win without the QB having to carry the team. If the Bills can land a quality LG and LT (assuming Jonas leaves) and another TE via the draft or free agency, JP could run a fairly vanilla game plan and use his athleticism to upgrade our QB play from a year ago. Another factor is the quality of the coaching staff, which should be able to work around his limitations as a first-year starter. TD's "four-year plan" appears to be on schedule and it looks like Drew's time in Buffalo may soo be over. Personally, I'd like to see Drew end his career in Dallas where he could even replace Testaverde as the starter (that's saying a lot about the current state of the Cowboys, LOL!). -
No problem Peerless...I'm sure you'll get open on the next one.

Official Tom Brady thread
Cash2Burn replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Uh...why do you think he has those two SB MVPs...could it have something to do with putting together two of the greatest winning drives ever, the second one with less than 2:00 to play. What's wrong with all the "rookie" class posters today? I keep seeing all these posts dishing Brady. Anybody who'se watched the NFL for more than few years (as an adult, anyway) has to give the guy credit for being a great clutch perfomer. Enough with the "system" crap. The Pat's don't do anything exotic (west coast, offense, etc.). If anything, they're one of the most basic offenses in the league...way less complex/tricky than the Bills, I might add. -
there is a reason Modrak is still in Buffalo..
Cash2Burn replied to bluenews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LMFAO!!!! The saddest thing about this post is that nearly 800 "pearls" of equally fine quality have gone before it. -
Henry's contract makes him an attractive commodity. Undoubtedly the team that snags him will do a new deal, but he's a heck of a lot more marketable that guys with big dollar signs attached to them. He may even sign for relatively modest bucks in return for a guaranteed starting role...just like he did here. That fact alone should increase any trade interest from the teams already mentioned.

I'd expect him to know how to spell both guys' names, if he was any kind of "Steelers fan."

Back From Game - A Wakeup Call For Our Fans
Cash2Burn replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People, people. The CBS telecast was treated as a ROAD game beamed back to Pitt (and to Steelers fans nationwide, of whom just as many have migrated away from Western PA as folks have from WNY). Of course they're going to play to that audience, not to the home town croud even though the game was shown locally. Venting is good, but the amount of croud noise in RWS was not why this game was lost. -
A 9 MINUTE DRIVE BY PIT SCRUBS!!
Cash2Burn replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally agree. I didn't see Sam Adams make a play until there were about 4 minutes left. How about Spikes, how many times was his name called? Was it because the DT's were letting Pitt's OL get out on the backers? Of all the things that went wrong today, I'm most disappointed by the play of the Defense which got out-muscled by the Steeler's OL. -
Funny, I got a reply like that too when I e-mailed Sullivan earlier this season. He's just stirring the pot, trying to draw attraction to himself...sort of like Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton, Jerry Springer, et al. If you don't have talent, the only way to get people to read your column is to inflame their emotions by taking outlandish postions. He's just another mediocre, Guild-protected hack "playing out the string" like the rest of the Buffalo News columnists.

Indy gets to pick their first round opponent
Cash2Burn replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to agree. No one wants to play the Bills right now. In the Rams-Jets game, I have a hard time seeing a Mike Martz team coming up big in a pressure situation. I hope I'm wrong, but the Rams are a major choke waiting to happen. -
Reed, no question. He was a much more accomplished WR. EM's advantage is almost entirely related his physical superiority to most DBs.

That's because this is essentially a bye week...the niners are probably the worst team in football and would probably lose against a few of the bowl game teams.

Would anyone care if the NHL folded
Cash2Burn replied to Nick in RaChaCha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love hockey, but I gave up on the NHL years ago after New Jersey won the cup a few times (playing that damned boring NZ trap) and everyone jumped on the same bandwagon. Hockey rinks today are just too small for the players...when was the last time you saw a two-on-one or (God forbid!) a breakaway on a regular basis? All it takes is 2-3 strides and today's 6'5' (and larger) D-men are back in position, clogging the middle of the ice. International size rinks would make the game exciting again, but they're too expensive to fit into today's arena's. -
I agree, it's a hoot! Too many folks see only Red and Blue anymore...when most things are actually grey. I'm forwarding it to all my Republican friends, who'll no doubt get a good laugh as well.

Whoa! What are you, an optician! I had the procedure over a year ago and I'm very happy with the results, especially when I swim, play sports, work out, sweat, whenever it's raining, when I'm driving at night........ Funny, you'd think that with all of those "frequent" mistakes, the trial attorney's would be lined up ten deep outside every Lasik provider's office. Kind of like what happened to Steve Martin's character after he invented the "Opti-Grab" in The Jerk!

(OT) So Where IS This Untaxed Paradise ?
Cash2Burn replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This thread misses the whole point of the 1% sales tax hike. Yes, as consumers, and extra penny is not that big a hit...and yes, WNY is a great place to live. The problem is, each time taxes go up, it sends BUSINESSES packing to other states, and even other countries. New York's tax structure/government service delivery levels have always been based on fleecing the business community to pay for all of the great amenities (libraries, parks, schools etc.) that everyone here is mentioning. The problem is, when all of businesses that have the ability to move are gone (i.e., Bethlehem Steel, Eastman Kodak, Corning, IBM....), who is going to pick up the tab for these services??? Gee, do ya think there might be a reason why Buffalo's job growth is the slowest in the nation? The 1% tax hike is just a short-term fix that is driving another nail in the Buffalo / upstate NY coffin. -
The funniest thing about watching Pat rumbling toward the end zone was all the jiggling/wiggling going on....that mid-section was going about four different directions! Also, I don't seem to recall Sam Adams vibrating so much on his interception against the Pats a few years ago. Is it me or does Pat look heavier than when he played next to Big Ted?

Feeley can't avoid wrong end zone DAN LE BATARD dlebatard@herald.com Buffalo defensive tackle Pat Williams is an enormous man by any measurement. He is listed at 310 pounds, which is a lie unless things capable of producing eclipses are 310 pounds. A great many of those pounds, too many, are in the area of a jiggling belly substantive enough to come with its own area code and government. Williams has a lot of body art for a lot of body -- suns (plural) and scorpions (plural) and Chinese symbols (plural). ''About 30,'' he says when asked how many tattoos/murals he has from the side of his neck down. Point is, it is virtually impossible not to notice this man. But Dolphins quarterback A.J. Feeley somehow didn't. And that's one of the many reasons the Dolphins now are a godforsaken 2-10 in this season of calamity. Feeley threw the football right at Williams' chest very hard during this 42-32 loss. It stuck there, somewhere amid the rolls of fat, and Williams took that ball, the game and the air in this stadium with him in the other direction. As he rumbled toward that end zone, he was like an ocean liner (no brakes) while the Dolphins continued to resemble a sinking one (no breaks). What was Williams doing as he headed to the end zone? ''I was laughing,'' he said. And what did he do upon arrival? ''I was tired,'' he said. ENTERTAINING LOSS And isn't that where fans of this Dolphins team are today? Somewhere between tired and laughing? Miami is playing for a draft pick now, so we would do well if all the remaining games were like Sunday's -- losing but entertaining. This game had a bit of everything, except stakes. Williams was too winded and surprised to do much of a celebration, although he did manage to tell the crowd to hush, which was redundant at that point. It is the funniest play in football -- the surprised, panicked fat guy running with the ball -- and several laughing Bills teammates came over to congratulate him. But he kept shooing them away and trying to catch his breath. ''Get out of my way,'' he said. ``I have to go sit down.'' Feeley had a chance to tackle Williams before he got to the end zone. But -- and here's a surprise -- he made a good decision. By getting the hell out of the way. ''He just gave up,'' Williams said. ``He didn't want to hit me. He didn't want none of that.'' Can you blame him? No, Feeley had had enough. CAN'T BLAME LINE He had just wasted the best performance by his offensive line all season. He can't blame a lack of time for these five interceptions, just a lot of awful judgment. He could have had as many as eight interceptions if not for a replay review, a drop and a falling defender. Feeley has a legitimate NFL arm. And he has shown legitimate NFL toughness in his past three starts. The only reason to watch the last four games of this lost Miami season is to see if he can reveal an NFL head. He hasn't shown that yet. What he has shown is a remarkable, uncanny ability to throw passes that end up in the wrong end zone. Sunday, hope -- like a lot of animals -- went to die in Williams' belly. Oddly, Williams used only his left arm on his interception -- he's right-handed -- although he didn't catch the ball as much as it caught him. ''That finished the game,'' Williams said. 'I kept telling everyone, `Now we can breathe. It's over.' '' He smiled. ''I'm all skills,'' he said. ``All hands. I'm fast.'' This last comment actually made him laugh out loud. Which is pretty much what the Dolphins make the guys on the other sideline do.

Why doesn't Florida have strict building codes
Cash2Burn replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What you keep overlooking is the cost of building hurricain-resistant homes and infrastructure. Who's gonna' pay for this? Taxpayers, homeowners, little green men from mars? The folks who live in manufactured housing do so because they're cheaper to build/buy and that's what they can afford. Florida politicians are never going to alienate the demographic group with the highest voter participation rate. Or are you just proposing that all the fixed-income retirees in trailers/manufactured housing be priced out of the Florida market? -
(OT) Monreal Expos moving to Washington?
Cash2Burn replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How could they not make more $$$? I used to be an Expos fan way back when they came into the league and their games were shown on the CBC in Buffalo. Still, its hard to get upset by this move when they drew more fans in Puerto Rico (10,000 per game) than Montreal (9,000+) last year. http://mtlexpos.tripod.com/attendance_archive.htm http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/stadium?team=mon
