Sean Payton on Broncos 2022 Season - Wow

and wasn’t a big part of the Hackett hire trying to entice Aaron Rodgers out of Green Bay? -
your first instinct was correct. There is one box where you would fill in a player who played for both the bills and the Falcons. The next game comes out in just a few minutes. Just try and keep beating your lowest score. That’s who I went with as well. When I picked coy wire yesterday for Bill/Falcons, I made the pick at like 9:02AM and his percentage was 100%. I was the only one to fill in that Square at that time. Then as the day goes on the percentage drops. ended up being 2% I think.

https://www.immaculategrid.com/football Free to play. Edit: Think of the most obscure players you can. For example, don’t enter Josh Allen or Mayfield for 3,000 yard passers! I was just introduced to this daily game the other day. Not sure how long this game has been going on. I’ve been on pro football reference for a long time and even had a stat head subscription for a while. Today’s grid futures the Bills as one of the five teams. The grid resets every day at 9am Eastern time. So there is some time to still fill out this one. Feel free to post your score here when you are done. My score was 251. Pretty weak considering I went 9/9 and my three Bills players totaled 7%. The lower your score the better. Your score is the sum of your percentages. A wrong guess is worth 100 points.

That's because they were not super athletes like Allen. Allen can throw on the same level of Big Ben, Favre and Elway. The difference is he is on another level than those guys when it comes to running. I get the injury risk. But the dude can play with his arm just like those three forementioned QB's. All three were still really good late in their careers when they were much less mobile because of their arm talent. It could certainly be the same way for Allen. I get the worry, but if you look at the list, just think, who is most likely out of all the young QB's, to be more like Steve Young? Do you think it is Daniel Jones or Josh Allen?

OT…opinions of Jalen Hurts

I like it. But it is frustrating if you are on the other end of it. they will probably come up with a player safety excuse in a year or two to ban it. But then what will they do about o-lineman pushing piles which has been going on for decades? -

I believe you are mistaken. I've searched and could not find anything about a new rule to ban the "tush- push". -
Making the Super Bowl is a high bar. I would probably have to lean missing the playoffs is more likely. This is true. The Saints come to mind as one of the only examples of a team that missed the playoffs a lot with a generational talent at QB. Three straight years I think and still having a top 5 offense in those seasons that they missed the playoffs as well. And their division was usually always up for grabs.

OT…opinions of Jalen Hurts

Yeah it was Allen's worst postseason performance overall thus far in his career. Or at least matches the dr. jekly and mr. hyde performance he had against the Texans. But he also has 2021 postseason in his resume which I think is still the greatest postseason statistical performance? His performance against the Dolphins could have looked drastically better if Knox catches the ball in the endzone, Bease doesn't let one bounce off his chest for an INT and Shakir hauls in the 50 yard pass to set the Bills up inside the red zone. None of Allen's turnovers this last postseason cost the Bills a W. But you could definitely make the case that Hurts fumble cost the Eagles the Super Bowl. All that said, I really like Jalen. He is a tough son of a gun. And with the team he has around him there's no reason to think he won't be able to pick up where he left off. Like Allen, he needs to stay healthy and try and take less wear and tear. The other young QB I really like but who has yet to breakout is Fields. Another tough son of a gun. Don't know if he will turn the corner and the Bears roster is not great (and that's being nice) but I'll be rooting for a breakout year from Fields this year. If I am the Bears OC I watch every second of film of Hurts and the Eagles and try and mimic their offense as much as possible. -

Did they band pushing the QB from behind? I did not know that. -
PFF Top 50 Players for 2023 - Josh Allen at 12, Diggs at 24
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Lost's topic in The Stadium Wall
looks like you are correct. pff has Donald as the #1 DT still and Hurts is the #7 QB. But they have Allen as the #2 QB but somehow have Burrow ahead of him on this list. Makes a lot of sense. Lol. -

Maybe Donald is the odd man out after his down year, injury and age? -
Jets are releasing WR Denzel Mims if they can't trade him.

Also, Shorter being about .20 seconds slower on the 40 has hopefully made him learn how to use his size to create space for catches and run better routes to get open. -
RB$ circling the wagons for fellow RBs
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Neither one is currently a free agent. so yes, the answer is they will be on a team. even Dalvin Cook, who is 27 will end up signing with a team before the season starts most likely. -

so you think these players really just won’t play? I’m not debating what kind of money they will get, but somebody will sign them. Guaranteed. A top five running back that’s 24 or 25 years old. -

but then you’ll also have teams with quarterbacks on rookie deals that will say OK we will take your 24 year old star running back and pay them to a new three-year deal. -
They did have trouble moving the ball though. In the red zone specifically. The question is why? One of the leading candidates is turnovers. Allen had three interceptions against the Vikings and Jets combined in the red zone. The same Allen that once had a pretty long streak of no red zone INTs to start his career. Furthermore, they had a turnover on downs at the goal line in the first Dolphins game. That's essentially four turnovers inside the red zone in their three regular season losses that were all losses by 3 points or less. In their wins, off the top of my head Allen threw an INT in the red zone against the Lions and I think McKenzie's fumble against the Chiefs may have been inside the red zone. I'm sure there are several more I can't recall as well.

If the focus is on the Bills in the red zone and their inability to finish drives the problem could be the lack of targets to the RB's in the red zone specifically. Examining KC and Buffalo, the Chiefs threw 41 TD passes and the Bills had 35 TD passes. The Chiefs had 12 go to RB's while the Bills had 4 go to RB's/FB. That ratio is off. If we multiply 12 by .85 the Bills should have thrown about 10 to the RB's instead of only the 4 they managed to get to them. Of course Allen is going to take some TD's off the board with his rushing, he had 7. Mahomes also had 4 himself so the difference between the two is 3. Subtract the difference from the 10 the Bills should have had and we should have expected about 7 TD's thrown to the RB's instead of the 4 we ended up with. Not a massive difference maybe but still an extra TD in the right game, inside the red zone against the Vikings, Jets or Dolphins could have really helped out the Bills record. Also of note, surely one or two of the TD's may have come outside of the red zone for both the Chiefs and Bills. I have not dived into that data.

I think the goal should be to be able to sustain one of the league's best offenses consistently year in and year out. Create a offensive system that will last. That is exactly what the Patriots and Saints did for well over a decade. Both offenses used a system that targeted the RB's a lot. Far more than league average. To the Bills credit they have had a high-octane offense for three years now which is great. Can they keep up their top 5 offense with their particular style for another 7 years and only target the RB's 13%, 15% and 20% of the time year to year? It's possible, the Chiefs have done it for five years only targeting the RB's about 18% of the time.

I wouldn’t say too high. I think 18-23% is around where you want to be. The Chiefs have made a dynasty out of 18% but they also target the TE a ton which most teams do not. Without Kelce the Chiefs would probably resort to targeting the backs over 20% of the time. And again, two of the best offenses to do it season after season have targeted the backs closer to 30% of the time. Rams and Eagles have had success in the 12 - 15% range but it hasn’t carried over for multiple seasons like the Saints and Patriots. I’m glad the Bills were at least at 20% last year as being in that 12-15% range was far too low. I think that works if you have Beasley playing like the best slot in he league like he was in 2020 but we don’t have that anymore. Unless the a lot production and/or TE production goes up a lot I think he Bills will be better served to get closer to 23% of targets to the backs. That said, targets to the slot and TE’s are expected to go up a lot this year with Kincaid. On paper anyway. Have to see it work on the field still.
