Agreed. Folks are going to want 300 yards and 3 TD’s and scoring 28+ points. But this will likely be the toughest defense Allen and the Bills gave all year and they are going to be amped up at home. Getting to 20 - 23 points is probably about all we will get to. Hopefully that’s enough.

I don’t remember that, but that is pretty funny and bizarre.

Why Are We Not Winning Superbowls?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
I haven't been following this argument today but how has it evolved to an argument that Allen and the Bills offense was not perfect enough now, despite having five TD's in regulation (one more than the Chiefs had in regulation BTW) all while coming off of literally a perfect offensive performance the week prior? The Chiefs only punted twice but they also failed to get the ball in the endzone at a higher rate. That meant they needed the 13 second miracle at the end of regulation and the powers that be came through. I would think by now we would have all moved onto criticizing the defense which consistently underperforms in the postseason. But no, let's take a deep dive into why the Bills offense only generated 5 TD's on 9 possessions and failed to generate 6 TD's on 9 possession a week after having 7 TD's on 7 possessions. -

Have they even said which three QB’s are on the next Netflix series? I thought the rumor would be they would have everyone that excepts the show, deny it to keep it under wraps as to not spoil it. Also, Kirk Cousins in an interview said he was skeptical about the show but when he was told how much input and final say he would have on what gets aired he was okay with it. Basically, the players can make sure they are seen in what ever light they want to be seen. I haven’t seen the show, but let’s be real, they could make any QB outside of Johnny Manziel look like a film junkie. We are talking a fraction of these guys lives over a 6 month period or so? As mentioned before as well. Allen and Mahomes watching more film isn’t going to make them better at their best traits which is their secondary reaction ability plays. Those are what separate the two QB’s from the rest of the pack and you can’t fine tune those skills by watching tape. They are called secondary reaction plays for a reason, you don’t game plan them. They just happen within the flow of each individual series and play. -

of course . I was specifically going with the early years of each players career though for a reason. Allen doesn’t have 15 years of game and film room experience yet. -

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Have you missed the 1,000 posts calling for McD’s head? Even the majority that want to keep McD are doing so on a one year basis only. Waiting to see if the Bills do in fact make the playoffs this year or not. -

Allen didn’t give up 38 and 42 points in back to back postseason elimination games against the Chiefs. Part of the problem here is that arguably Allen and the offenses worst post season performance since Allen has been QB, happens to be their most recent postseason game which was a loss. Those things do happen. But I think some are going overboard with the negativity because it is the last thing they can vividly recall. Even the Patriots loss 33-14 to the Ravens at home and in the middle of Brady’s prime and dominance as a QB. -

Should we also consider the defensive performances Brady also got in the post season compared to what the Bills defense provided to Allen in the Bills last three postseason defeats? In the stats below for the Pats, I looked at just their first three Super Bowl seasons since that would be a pretty accurate comparison to this current Bills team that has really only been legitimate Super Bowl contenders since 2020. you will see that I highlighted theSuper Bowl points given up by the Patriots. You will see they never gave up more than 17 points to get to the super until their third Super Bowl season when they gave up 27 to the Steelers. 2001- Super Bowl - Patriots give up 13, 17 and 17 points = 47 points=15.6ppg Regular season average 17ppg vs. 15.6ppg= -1.4ppg 2003- Super Bowl- Patriots give up 14, 14 and 29= 57 points 19ppg regular season average 14.8ppg vs 19ppg= + 4.2ppg 2004- Super Bowl- Patriots give up 3, 27, 21= 51 points 17ppg Regular season average 16.25ppg vs 17 = +.75 avg Bills: Below I highlighted the points given up in the elimination games for the Bills. 2020: 24, 3, 38= 65 points, 21.6 avg regular season avg 23.4 vs. 21.6avg= -1.8 ppg Here the Bills defense was good the first two weeks but obviously crapped the bed against the Chiefs giving up 38 points, about 15 points over their regular season average 2021: 17, 42= 59 points, 29.5 avg regular season avg 17ppg vs 29.5 = + 12.5ppg Another season, same story. Defense was good in the first game, crapped the bed against the Chiefs by giving up 25points over average 2022: 24,27= 51points, 25.5 avg regular season avg 17.4 vs. 25.5 = +8.1ppg In the above I took out the TD the Bills gave up to the Dolphins off of the Allen fumble to not negatively affect the defensive performance. Conclusions, first even if we add say 2 or 3 ppg to account for the higher scoring offenses we see today vs the offenses of 20 years ago we see that the Patriots were far better at having a tighter range on the delta of regular season vs postseason ppg given up. Second, the Chiefs are really the main reason the Bills have not had two Super Bowl appearances since 2020. The defense giving up 38 and 42 respectively is a big reason why. And oddly enough in the regular season since 2020, in three games the Bills D is giving up 26, 20 and 20 points to the Chiefs with the two 20 points performances being Bills wins. So it is not like the Bills don’t have the personnel on D to shut down the Chiefs. They have done it three times in the regular season. But again, the theme is that the defense lays an egg in the postseason. -

Excellent post PatsFan. Spot on. Especially with regards to Allen be asked to do it all from day one. While Brady, playing well on his own for which he was asked, to his credit, also had a lot of help. Thus far Allen has had a paper tiger of a defense that balls out in the regular season but has given up an average of like 35 points in each of the Bills last three post season elimination games. -

Have you heard of this dude named Mahomes who basically has all the same physical gifts as Allen minus the the “linebacker QB ability” but plus the “point guard vision”? he and Andy Reid along with Tyreek Hill and the GOAT TE are the main reason why Allen does bot have a ring and two Super Bowl appearances already. I don’t care how much film study a guy like Mahomes does or Allen for that matter. When they are at their best it is because of their secondary reaction plays. Film study can’t make Mahomes see the guy coming open after he spun 360 degrees around and side juked a d-lineman. Those are natural gifts. Just like film study doesn’t allow Allen to stiff arm arm a linebacker and throw a laser for a TD while falling out of bounds. -

To the OP: How much film study do you think a guy like Big Ben did? I’m going to say not anymore that Allen. How about Brett Favre? Again, not anymore than Allen right? Even Mahomes strikes me as a guy that watches film but like Allen doesn’t get carried away with it. Logically this makes sense when you are a QB that goes off script as much as Allen and Mahomes do. And the previous two examples in Big Ben and Favre were also guys that went off script at a higher than average rate. Those two combined for 3 rings and 5 Super Bowl appearances. I’ve said it before, right now Allen and the Bills are the Peyton Manning/ Tony Dungy colts. Peyton eventually won one and made two appearances. But Mahomes and the Chiefs are Brady and the Patriots and the Bengals and Burrow are the Steelers and Big Ben. Just get into the playoffs every year and eventually the Bills and Allen will win one. -
That is also what the Jets should be concerned about with regards to their own o-line. We should be defending Rodgers first and foremost by bringing as much pressure as we can. Hopefully we get there with four. But if we bring 5 or more consistently the pressure should be there every time. He should be playing with the worst line of his career hopefully.

I absolutely love the Steelers this year. I think they take at least 2nd in their division. For my money TJ Watt is the best defensive player in the game. He missed 7 games last year. Steelers make the playoffs last year if he played all 17. They were 8-2 in games he played in and 1-6 in the games he missed. Games he missed included: 17-14 loss to NE 16-10 loss to Miami 24-20 loss to NY Jets I think they easily win two out of those three games with TJ Watt. And he probably ends Tua's season even earlier.

Beanes drafts rate very highly
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
we need one of Ed Oliver, or Greg Ruosseau to be a difference maker. Both players are still young enough that they can turn into a top five player at their position. The other thing to take into account is the bills did not have a 2020 1st round pick. That greatly lessened the chance of getting a difference maker out of that draft. But of course we used that pick to trade for a difference maker in diggs. -
So much is riding on guys like Rousseau, Oliver, Torrance and Kincaid to be hits. If 3 out of the 4 can be top 10 players at their positions and one top 5 that will help with the transition.
-
If the Bills take a step back this season it will be because of the age of some of key players. Von, Hyde, Poyer, Diggs, Morse. These guys are getting very close to hitting that wall. Even some of our "younger" key guys could be at ages where they start to take smaller steps back. Guys like Milano, Tre and Dawkins.
-
VW82 has a valid point though. The list of receivers to show a dramatic drop off at the age of 30 is quite long. Diggs surprised me last year by having a career year in a lot of regards after having a drop in production the year before. If I had to bet, Diggs numbers will be closer to 2021 then anything we saw in '20 and '22. But even if he can put up '21 numbers the Bills will be fine. The league used to talk about the RB drop off at the age of 30. That has switched to WR's now, I am guessing because of all the extra targets they see in today's pass happy league. And now teams don't even see value in RB's after the age of 26. Yep, they've actually had the actual highest scoring offense in Bills history two of the last three seasons. Even in 2020 without the extra game, but offense was up all around due to covid that year. We have seen it in spurts. Look at the first two games of last season. The two games to end the 2021 postseason. Or the beginning and end of the 2020 season. They just need more consistency. They have struggled each of the last three seasons starting around Halloween and going into Thanksgiving.

I Am Not Optimistic Going Into This Season
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to longtimebillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
There should be legit concerns about the age of some of our key pieces on defense and how they will perform this season. It’s easy to think we will be healthier so automatically we must be better. I’m not quite at the level of the OP but I am hoping for the best while expecting a very bumpy ride this season to what will hopefully be a 4th division title. -
they have perhaps already done that with Oliver.
-
that’s exactly what we’re saying. The Bills two best defensive acquisitions to date, draft or free agency, that are still on the team are Poyer and Hyde. both were brought in as free agents before Beane was GM. our defense still relies heavily on them, and now we just have to hope that they can stay healthy as they age. His D-line picks have not planned out at all.
