Keenan Allen is the comp to Welker and Edelman. Not Eckler. You are correct they never had one back get 100 catches like Eckler did last year. But A. that was a career year and not the norm for Eckler and B. The Pats did routinely have multiple backs combine for 70-100 catches on the year. They were more diverse out of the back field with their personnel. Last year was a career worst year for Eckler in terms of ypr. He was looking really good this year (7.3 yp rush and 11.8 yp reception) in admittedly a very small sample size before he got injured. Injuries again really hurting the Chargers already.

The greatest team ever in terms of sustained success at the highest level was dink and dunk to the RB's for the majority of their reign. They also sprinkled in slot guys like Welker and Edelman and then had the big receiver to go to in Gronk. Not too dissimilar to the Chargers offense with Allen being the possession slot guy and Mike Willaims the big, bodied receiver. Hasn't one of the Chargers biggest issues been injuries over the last few seasons? I believe Mike Williams missed the Jags WC game last year right because the idiot of a coach decided to play him the week before in a meaningless game. Mike Williams and Keenan Allen last year combined to miss 11 games. They have even been banged up on their o-line with Rashawn Slater missing all but 3 games last season. And their Center was out for three games. On defense Derwin James and Bosa are both notorious for missing a lot of games due to injury over the last few seasons.

Wait a second. Doesn't he also get blame for only leading his team to a 3 point second half? JA gets blame around here for the Houston Texans WC loss where the Bills were up 16-0 and then only managed 3 points in the second half while the defense gave up 19. Also, the defense picked off Lawerence 4 times i think in that first half setting up two TD "drives" for the Chargers offense that started inside the Jacksonville 20 yard line.

i’m sorry but again, you are way over reacting. he’s definitely good enough to win a Super Bowl. We already know that. am I content with him not being the best quarterback in the game today? Heck yeah. I’m also content with him still being a top three or top five quarterback. That’s completely reasonable. until he is solidly, not a top quarterback, and for more than just one year, then we can say we have an issue.

No offense, but that would be a you problem if you haven't come to terms with it by now. How did Josh look last year against the same Jets defense? OP said this was probably Allen's worst NFL game in his six year career. That's probably true and the two games last year against the Jets are probably in the top 10 of worst games of Allen's career. Nothing we saw Monday night should have surprised anyone. We should all be surprised if Allen doesn't put up MVP Allen type games against the Raiders, Commander and Dolphins coming up. He should get back to that high level of play in at least two out of the three upcoming games. Hopefully people have come to terms with Allen's play against elite defenses is a huge problem and there is nothing we can do about it other than hope the turnovers can be manageable, like one or two instead of 4. But it is what it is at this point.

What will happen with Josh over the next month?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Folks remember the two Jets games from last year and how those games went for Allena and the offense right? Jets still have a great defense, in fact their defense is likely much better this year than it was last year and they were really good last year. Some folks are really over thinking this. They want Allen to be something he is not. They want Allen to be the best QB in the game. Sorry, that title belongs to Mahomes. Allen because of his inefficiencies, largely his YOLO style and refusal to take easy throws, will have to settle for being the 2nd or 3rd best QB. Yes, there are times where Allen will get hot and he will be that best player for stretches. We have seen those stretches multiple times throughout his career. But they won't last an entire season. It's year 6 for Allen. Like he said, Same S***, same place, different day". On the spectrum of what I expected and not expected out of JA17 and the offense against the Jets in this game, everything was very close to what I expected. Look at Allen and the offenses numbers in the two games against the Jets last year. They are basically the same garbage as this last game. Allen had a couple more turnovers. Basically, anyone paying attention knew this was going to be a bad night for Allen and the offense by their standards. Now that said, I expect a pretty big bounce back by the offense over the next three weeks. I'll be concerned with Allen and the offense if he doesn't have a 2-1 TD:TO ratio vs. LV, WSH and MIA and the offense isn't averaging at least 24 ppg in those three games. -
A few topics/stats/info that have not been mentioned

I agree with this. it seems like Rodgers would’ve been in for a long night. It was only a matter of time before he would get injured. -
I vote the Bengals but the bills are a very close second. giant would be number one of course but realistically, who gives a crap about the Giants. They don’t have Super Bowl expectations. honestly, what I saw out of the bills offense is very close to what I expected to see. I was not expecting some great or even good offensive performance. But we needed to keep the turnovers to two at the most, and not doing so I think cost us the game. I expect the Jets defense to be top five in the league, all season long and maybe even number one. The only thing that would really keep them from being number one is the incompetence of their own quarterback play. still, it was a bad performance, and one that they let slip away against a quarterback they should’ve beat. But again the same bad quarterback beat the bills last year so it’s not like this is shocking. The Bengals offense was terrible, and while the Browns might have a good defense, I don’t think it’s anywhere near the level of the Jets defense. The Bengals can also fall back on “Hey, we sucked at the beginning of last year too” so nothing to see here. Just as the bills can fall back on, “we sucked against the Jets defense twice last year, and still won the division.”

Jets OT TD should have been called back...

exactly. Enforce the 15 yard personal foul penalty and they still get the ball at like the 35 yard line. -
The Josh Allen excuse thread…
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall
The thing is, you don’t really solve great defenses. What we needed last night was for Allen to only have one turnover and not four. That would’ve been the difference in the game likely. or to convert another touchdown on one of our Redzone trips instead of settling for a field goal. Or having one extra field goal drive, would you likely would’ve occurred by cutting down the turnovers. in other words, yes, the bills offense needs to be better but not by much. it’s never going to look great or maybe even good against elite defenses. And that’s actually normal. The Super Bowls where we have a top offense against a top defense are good examples of this. The defense almost always dictate a low-scoring game, and below average offensive performance. -
The play that concerned me the most
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’ll never be coached out of him. It will make him great and so frustrating at times as well. at this point, we don’t have to say he’s not listening to the coaches. He’s not listening to himself. He himself has said repeatedly he knows that he has to change but he doesn’t. You can’t change a zebra’s stripes. personally, I’d rather Josh not change his ways. I’m concerned about coaching that type of stuff out of him. Take last nights touchdown, for example. Most quarterbacks would’ve probably thrown that ball away. we will just have to continue to take the many lumps along the way. I mean, if it ever could be coached out of him, but he could still keep that edge about him that makes him great at the same time, he’d basically be the greatest quarterback ever. Not a realistic expectation honestly. -
The Josh Allen excuse thread…
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think so. They’re not as complete as the Jets. Plus factor in this Jets game was on the road Dallas D will be playing in Buffalo. Jets D on the road is literally the toughest defense the bills will play this year. But Dallas is likely the third toughest. -
The Josh Allen excuse thread…
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall
We shouldn’t be surprised. Allen and the bills offense struggled against the Jets defense twice last year. The Jets defense is probably even better this year than they were last year. Absolutely not shocking at all that the offense and Allen were terrible last night. The only silver lining is that the bills won’t play a better defense, than the Jets. Unfortunately, they have to play them one more time though. -
Not all penalty calls are created equal
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it’s pretty unlikely to alter the game if the OPI is not called. Bills simply make a shorter field goal to send it in overtime. The way that game was going it didn’t feel like we were going to get the ball in the end zone. definitely not from 20+ yards out. Every pass Allen threw deep was a disaster waiting to happen. definitely not from 20+ yards out. I don’t think the bills were getting inside the 15 - 20 yard line with the amount of time left. -
Last night was like if every Chiefs WR was Gabe Davis.

Anyone else sick of the Jets Hype??
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall
My biggest jets prediction is that Garrett Wilson will push Justin Jefferson for most receiving yards this year. -
Regarding Cook, I am a bit concern with his pass protection and ability to be on the same page with Allen in the passing game. There were a couple instances last year where it seemed Cook was in the wrong spot on his routes. Those could be two areas where there is a drop off at the position. Hopefully just rookie mistakes but something to keep an eye on.

I would think there has to be some sort of measure of whether or not the players that are starting or actually any good? Above average, below average, etc. Spencer Brown seems like the perfect example of this. Yes he is starting. Is that a good thing?

Big picture it’s not a great sign as going into the season we all knew we were taking a big gamble with the age of our starting safeties. safeties that by the way, have been huge in the overall success of the defense since they arrived. It would be one thing if they were just average safeties. It wouldn’t be as significant of a drop should their play and availability tail off.
