Mahomes sat pretty much the entire 2017 season. No reason why we couldn't have done the same with Allen. I understand our 2019 roster won't be on the level of the Chiefs roster this year but it has to be better than it is this year. It can't get any worse. Are there any Kyle Orton types out there we can pick up off the street?

Allen played with a terrible supporting cast at Wyoming. Maybe losing confidence is the wrong term to use. But it certainly doesn't seem that playing with a bad supporting cast at Wyoming has helped Allen any. Sure he still has confidence. But he hasn't been able to develop properly playing with such a bad cast. I just don't want the same thing to happen now in the the NFL.

I think part of the problem is that our defense has regressed and also isn't very good. These guys are also being evaluated in practice. They probably looks competent in practice due to the defense not being very good. And to be fair, Peterman did look much improved in the pre-season. I was surprised at how bad he played in the opener.

Peterman Stats - Historical Ranking?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm kind of in this boat as well. Peterman's #1 problem is that he's just not that good. But at the same time is he really this bad? Historically bad? Chargers don't have Bosa this week and the game is in Buffalo and not likely to be a blizzard. Got to think he can at least muster a normal bad game by NFL standards. I know a lot of people don't want to see Peterman start but I am okay with it for two more weeks. Let Allen start @ Green Bay after we get through the Purple People Eaters. -
Who Starts At QB For Week 2? (Poll)
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Paulus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He might get hurt he might not. Whether he does or does not you are guaranteed to expose Allen to less abuse even if it means Allen has to come in halfway through the first quarter. The game we should really be concerned about is @ Minnesota week 3. I really didn't want Allen playing in that game at all unless he and the team were both looking competent. Starting Allen against the Chargers probably guarantees he will also start at Minnesota. -
Who Starts At QB For Week 2? (Poll)
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Paulus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only logic behind starting Peterman would be that you are terrified that Allen will get sacked 7 times, run for his life, concussed and pretty much ruin his career before he even has a legit chance to learn the game and develop. I am all for real game experience for rookie QBs but not if that experience is just getting beaten over the head again and again. -
Check in on Ravens Board

I agree about not wanting to start Allen for that reason. He's not ready. Decision process is too slow at this point. Disagree that any QB would get killed behind this o-line. Peterman has looked much better behind the o-line. At that's Peterman. Not some all-pro QB like Brady or Rodgers who would make a line look even better. -

I continue to think that we will be pleasantly surprised by Peterman. Okay, based on what he did last year the bar is pretty low. But even if just 80% of the Peterman we saw in the pre-season shows up he will play fairly well. And love the fact that a lot of their fans are thinking shut out as predictions like that in the NFL often turn the other way. -

Pretty much every single QB comparison outside of Chad Pennington is going to have a "yeah but Peterman's arm is weaker" argument. With that being the case Cousins seems like a great comparison to me.

For the 2018 Bills, Mack = Mario
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to george c's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He got old like they all do. Still not a bad signing though. We got exactly what could have been expected out of him. With Mack it's a little different because of the draft picks given up. You're going to want to either be a perennial playoff team with him for three straight years or at least have him play at a high level for 5 years instead of just 3. And with Mario I am guessing we would have gotten a lot more out of him in his fourth season with us if we hadn't switched the defense and hired Rex. -
I think we end up pleasantly surprised by the offense assuming Peterman starts most of the games. By pleasantly surprised I'm talking ranked around 22nd so still bottom third of the league but a slight improvement over last year. I think the defense takes a step back. 32nd seems unlikely though. But I could see us finishing in the 24-28 range.

Kirk Cousins is the right comparison. Nearly identical height. Hand size. Drafted mid round. Neither considered the future of their franchise despite having just been drafted by their team. Both struggled early in their careers.

1. O-line appears to be much worse 2. Don't bet on us being 7th in the league in turn over differential. That is what really got us into the playoffs. And take away that Chargers game and we would have finished the season 2nd in turn over differential. It's pretty well known that turnover differential is one stat that fluctuates greatly year to year. 3. We were a bad team last year in both offensive and defensive ypg rankings. If those don't change, then again we will be bad this year unless somehow we finish top 10 again in turnover differential. The one wild card is Peterman. At this point I am only expecting him to match Taylor's efficiency. But if he can be more productive and efficient than Taylor then it's possible we do get better. But that is a huge if for now.

Season Expectations: What Am I Missing?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Flip Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be more confident if we were 9-7 last year with like a top 20 offense and top 15 defense. The offensive line retirements don't help. And while Tyrod surely had his flaws, if either of Peterman or Allen can match his level of play we should consider it a success for their first year starting. Sensing sarcasm here I think? -
Yes. The similarity is in the impact the player will have on the team. Mario came in and played well for two years but it didn't make a difference in the win column. Mack would likely have the same impact here. Possibly even less with such young QBs. Would have been a bad trade for us.
-
Also troubles some that his numbers have gone down in each of his last two seasons from his career high 15 sack season in 2015.
-
I don't see this as all that different than when we signed Mario to a a huge contract in free agency. At least with the Mario signing we didn't also have to give up two first round picks. And let's face it, better than good chance that this years first would be a top 5 pick. And when we got Mario, he played well for us but did he really end up making a difference in the win/loss column? What are the odds Mack would make a difference the next couple of seasons with our young QB's?

LOL. Bears are so full of themselves this year. Bears management must of been listening to the local bears broadcast the other night and figured he would be the missing piece for their super bowl run behind Turdisky.

Aaron Donald get extension, 6-year $135mm
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Watkins90's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes me wonder who we are paying? We must be close to $100 million under the cap. I know McCoy gets paid well for a RB but RB money isn't stupid like QB, DE or WR.
