Sunday is the biggest game of the year
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me it is huge because we all have the memory of starting 5-1 in 2008 and missing the playoffs. Can't recall ever starting 6-1 and missing the playoffs. Also, 6-1 would be our best start to a season since the super bowl days. We need to get over that hump. -
Interesting Bills stat...
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean a strong case can be made that this team is a Gilmore miss tackle or good special teams blocking play away from 7-0 this year. I look at this weekends game as being so huge for us because I cannot remember the last time we started 6-1 and missed the playoffs. I can recall fairly easily starting 5-1 and missing the playoffs. -
Barnwell Blind Stats - Allen and Goff
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to inthebuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd expect so as well. Even with his tendency to take chances, I would bet against him turning the ball over 7 times in just two games over the final 8 game stretch. -
Barnwell Blind Stats - Allen and Goff
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to inthebuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The perceived direction that they are going. One was just outside the MVP race a season or two ago. Throw-out the New England game and I would bet Allen's Total QBR is much more respectable. Maybe even better than "below average". And you could argue it could be fair to throw out the New England game as they are probably the only team in the league that has made every QB they have faced look like Nathan Peterman 2.0. And that includes Goff and the high powered Rams offense just some 8 months ago. Goff has played the 49ers who are no slouch on defense either so there is that I suppose. But nobody is playing better on defense right now than New England. -
Allen>>>Darnold
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe I am jumping the gun here but at this point I am already sold on Allen. He's the real deal. So they can't all bomb. His worst case scenario feels like he is an underwhelming franchise QB like Matt Stafford. Best case scenario, sky is the limit pretty much. -
Pregame thread MNF: Pats at Jets
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1.Darnold doesn't turn the ball over. 2.Mosely takes the Jets defense up a notch. 3.Brady and the Pats offense plays poorly like when they played us and the Giants. -
Who the heck is Grant Gordon???
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to SJDK's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Your definition is more commonly used. But I know I have also heard that you have to put touch on all passes. Touch in this sense basically meaning you need to know how much to put on a ball. More straight line to it or more lob to it. And this would include short, intermediate or deep passes. To me, this guy is strictly talking about the deep passes that were missed pretty badly. And we've seen Allen struggle a lot with these this year. I honestly can't think of one he has connected on this year but perhaps there is one I am forgetting. -
Who the heck is Grant Gordon???

I think this is just an argument of semantics. We can call it or define it whatever we want put it's clear, to me anyway, that the critique is towards Allen's inability to complete and in many cases even come close to connecting on deep passes. -

Exactly. I see at least as many compliments of Allen as i do critiques. If not more. Allen doesn't fit nicely into the box of what a QB should be and I love that about him. He'll totally F games up like the first half of the Patriots game but then in other games and more often than not, he'll make the plays when they need to be made. -

I'm one of the bigger Allen supporters you will find on this board and honestly I don't see anything wrong with what this guy said at all regarding Allen and the game he had today. Josh Allen playing football absolutely is an adventure. To me that is another way of saying he is a gunslinger and then some. The then some being his ability to escape the grasp of monstrous D-lineman and break off back breaking runs. And we all know his "gun" has been off big time on his deep ball. Can't really think of one he has completed this season. But honestly, I couldn't careless. The guy is still a beast of a QB who is only getting better and learning more with each passing game. He's a franchise QB. Not without his flaws but here to stay. I wouldn't want Allen to play the game any differently then the way he does. For what exactly? You lost me at "Josh had an overall terrible day today". -
The jets wil beat the *pats
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think anyone is crowning him king of The AFC East. But the fact of the matter is the Jets are a significantly better team with him than with Luke Falk at QB. It's a night and day difference. And now Mosely is finally back in the mix too. We all saw how dominant of a player he was week one before he went out. Jets are playing at home where they have mostly kept games close with New England. This one definitely checks the upset alert box for me. -

I think this game will catch a lot of people by surprise. Vegas line is Jets +10. I see it much closer. Darnold back is huge as we saw last week. Mosely back this week will also be big for the Jets. I almost never root for the Jets and that typically includes games against the Patriots. BUT, since the Jets would have to climb out of a 0-4 hole just to compete for a wild card or the division crown, I feel comfortable with them winning their second straight if it means knocking off the Pats. Pats have a great defense but their offense is suspect. If Darnold can play mistake free football I can see them keeping it close enough to pull out a W. -

Not sure about beating them straight up but I did just take the Jets +10 so I am in the same boat as far as this being a competitive game. They are a completely different and better team with Darnold. And is Mosely not even back yet? -
Smith is only one example. On the other end of the spectrum you have a guy like Brady who makes tons of short throws but can also make the intermediate and deeper throws when called for? Good QB's like Brees and Brady use the entire field and that includes short, high percentage throws where their backs and receivers can get yac. They are able to do this because they have proven overtime that defenses must cover the entire field when playing against them, opening things up underneath.

Bills must prepare to face Rosen AND Fitz
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Rosen is someone you have to prepare for. I would just prepare for Fitz. I would probably expect him to get the start anyway, coming back to Buffalo. -
Well sure. But in Allen's case what if everything about him was the same but he had only 1 4th QC and 2 GW drives? I think we would all feel a lot differently about Allen in a more negative sense. A win is a win and he has pulled some out. This isn't a case of Tim Tebow needing acts of God to pull games out of his butt. I disagree because it eliminates what makes some QB's so good in their ability to scan the entire defense both pre and post snap.. Sometimes, and maybe even more often than not the correct play is to make the short pass knowing: 1. More likely to complete 2. Receiver has room to run

We should ask the same regarding Jackson. I think you will be surprised with the answer. He certainly has none this year in his "MVP candidate season". And I have a hard time finding one from 2018. Luckily stats and wins against average and poor teams count in the record books and standings as much as those against the good teams.
-
It would say the Lions are as much a playoff quality team as the Colts. Heck, watch out for the Raiders. I still think it is tight between all four of them to be honest. Baker is having a bad year but he had easily the best season last year of all of them. I wouldn't count him out to not get better this year or next. And can't sleep on Darnold either.
-
It's clearly too early to anoint any QB from the 2018 draft as the best. A debate that likely won't be settled till the end of next season. Each QB brings their own positives and negatives. You want an Allen stat? (4) 4th quarter comebacks and (6) Game Winning Drives vs. 1 and 2 respectively for Jackson in three fewer games. And also more than Darnold and Baker. Jackson has cooled off considerably since his hot start against Miami and Arizona. Allen gets Miami this week, a team he has put some nice numbers up against in the past. Lamar is finally starting to run the ball well in 2019 but Allen was an elite rusher last season. Allen was clearly the Qb with a lot to prove coming out of a small college program with underwhelming numbers is senior year, and a lot to learn. At this point Allen has far exceeded most everyone's expectations of him. If he isn't the clear best QB of the draft class 7 weeks into his second season in the NFL, I would not find that a shocker. But the fact that you can make a legitimate case that he is at worst the 2nd best QB in the draft class with four promising QB's, that is a tip of the cap to Allen.

And if Peyton Manning had New England's defnese... And if my Aunt had... you know the rest. All I know is Andy Reid teams underachieve in the playoffs. Bills look like a more complete team than the Chiefs right now. As do quite a few other teams. KC got by with having a ridiculously good offense. If that offense is now just really good, they are going to have problems just trying to secure the 3rd or 4th seed. We will see how things go now with Hill back.

That old Gilmore is being talked about like he is the new Revis. And from the little I have seen of him the talk may be warranted. Guy is no slouch. He's about to have his second straight first team all pro selection. In a close game like that one their are probably two dozen or more plays we can easily look and say if so and so just does this or that we probably score or force a punt or turnover on downs.
