SI Article: forget about sports this year
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Correct. Players can go about their daily lives. The risk for them, other than possibly becoming ill, is if they get a positive test they'll miss at least a couple games and be in quarantine. The other issue with the testing of players and personnel before games or throughout the week perhaps multiple times would be one of public perception. The NBA was ridiculed because a handful of NBA players were being tested a few weeks back while the general public was not. If tests are still in rather short supply will the NFL be able to justify testing it's players and personnel weekly or perhaps 2-3 times a week? -

My thinking is that we have to ramp up the testing to a huge level. In fact, the NFL should probably be investing or looking for ways to purchase 10's of thousands of tests. I've heard about a 15 minute test. Not sure how it works or if those 200 or so people in the game and on the sidelines could all take the test game day morning and get results back 15 minutes before kick off. Game time decision will have an entire new meaning for fantasy team owners. -
Check out the history of break out second year QB's going back to Carson Wentz's second year: 2017- Wentz (Likely MVP if he doesn't blow out his ACL week 14 or whatever it was, Brady ends up winning it that year) 2018- Mahomes MVP 2019- Jackson MVP 2020- Kyler Murray?? I think he's a great candidate. He's going to have the ball in his hands a lot with the option to run or throw. They had suspect personnel last year that should only get better. And of course that starts with Hopkins. The other second year breakouts for 2020 would include Daniel Jones and Drew Lock. Both showed flashes last year.

Raiders New Stadium

Nothing is in writing anywhere. Everything is constantly changing and being re-evaluated. The governor though has made comments that right now he does not really see stadiums being filled come September. But again, we are in a fluid situation so who knows what things will look like come summer and early fall. -

I don't think the NFL will take this by a case by case basis. The commissioner and NFLPA will want all teams to be united in however things play-out IMO. That would mean the very real possibility of no fans at all to start the season at least. -

The image of Knox and Morse both whiffing on the designed QB run in overtime is burnt into my memory. That was ball game if either guy makes an easy block. -
NFL to release schedule dates on May 9th
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the NFL would take an all or nothing approach. Meaning if even just a handful of states are not allowing fans in stadiums the NFL would have all stadiums follow suit until every stadium could be filled. They also might want to postpone the season all together until fans can attend the games. -

It's a good sign that half the responses are not "hey let's sign that gut that caught the ball!" Must mean we actually have decent skill position players now. -
NFL to release schedule dates on May 9th
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One interesting dynamic will be how each state handles the march to going back to normal. Remember, there is no national stay at home order. Each state and even city is making their own orders. I live in California for example, and I would be surprised if the Governor opens up 20,000- 80,000 seat stadiums and arena's to fans in September. I could see Washington's governor also being reluctant to open up the Seahawks stadium in September. So what happens if say a quarter, third or half of the teams are able to play but without fans? Is the NFL prepared to play games with empty stadiums? Would some teams have fans and other none? It still a very fluid situation but I won't be holding my breath for a schedule release on May 9. I could see it getting pushed back again till June or July. -
Josh Allen "Prove it" Season In Year 3
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to longtimebillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Teams still want that face of the franchise. And it's good for the fans and the league. But what needs to change in the system is more guys need to be paid 2nd tier money in the $20-$25 million per year range on long term contracts. Allen might not ever be a $35 million a year guy but he can hopefully be a $20-$25 million QB with the extra money going to better help across the board. Part of the problem though to I think is the agents and the Qb fraternity as a whole want even the low level back up QB's to make 8-10 million per year. If they can keep the second string QB salary high it will be even higher for the starters. -

Yep. And when they do test free agency the other QB needy GM's need to toe the line. Don't be like the Vikings and give Kirk Cousins $90 million guaranteed. -

GM's just need to start paying good but non-elite QB's what they are truly worth. Not every QB like Goff, Cousins and Dak should be making 30 million a year. But yeah, the problem is, when you draft a QB, and you are ready to extend that QB beyond their rookie deal it pretty much is telling the QB you are all in on them so then they and their agent get the idea that they should be paid like a top five QB. -
He's certainly fast enough. He's deceptively fast. Certainly plays much faster than 4.75 on the field. Mahomes is somewhat similar. Mahomes ran a 4.8 But when I watch Mahomes he looks like a guy to me that is running more like a 4.9 but he is effective. I think defenses are so afraid of Mahomes throwing, as they should be, that it gives him extra room to run. There is no way he should have scored that rushing TD against the Titans before the half but somehow he did. If Allen can become a major threat with his arm consistently he will start to see huge running lanes consistently. Hopefully he starts to take advantage of the passing lanes next season that his running threat is providing for him so far in his career. We did see him do this a few times this year running towards the LOS and we all thought he would run for the first and instead he makes an easy toss for the completion.

Must be nice to be able to throw money away like that. Maybe the guy thought he was wagering on the 49ers to WIN by exactly 5 points? I got to get some prop bets in tonight for fun. Question is how much of my dwindling bank roll do i want to bet?

I wouldn't take any KC player for MVP other than Mahomes. Problem with guys like Kelce, Hill and Watkins are that if they put up big numbers you know Mahomes is also going to have decent numbers at worst too and they are going to look for any reason they can to give the MVP to Mahomes. It would have to be some scenario where Mahomes passes for under 320 yards or so and half those yards go to one player AND all 2 or 3 TD's Mahomes throws goes to that same player. Mahomes cannot throw a TD to another player. Throw in at least maybe one INT for Mahomes too.

In hindsight though everyone should be kicking themselves regarding Watson. Very few QB's had a better winning pedigree than DeSean in college. The guy was a winner like Tebow was but of course actually had the skill and talent to play the position unlike Tebow. What do they always point to regarding Allen's college career? He couldn't even manage first team all Mountain West his final year. Yep he was dreadful. I don't think he completed a single one until the Broncos game? The game winner to Brown was just under 30 air yards i think? The one in the Broncos game was like exactly 30 maybe? Don't remember. But really it was that passes that were 40+ air yards that really sailed on him and never seemed to have a chance at all. The first New England game may have made things worst for him. In that game he seemed to just be throwing balls up for grabs hoping his receiver would make a play but the Patriots defense was playing at too good a level to let that happen. And then after that game it seemed almost every pass over 40 yards was an overthrow sometimes by as many as five yards.

Yep. Who was it? Transplant that had the Josh Allen will be MVP thread? It was just a season too soon. The trend of second year QB's taking the next level MVP jump is crazy right now. 2017 Wentz (Goff to a lesser extent) 2018 Mahomes (Turbitzky to a lesser extent) 2019 Jackson (Allen to a much lesser extent but greatly improved sophomore season) 2020 Will it be Murray, Jones or Lock? Can't see it being Haskins. Murray seems like a great candidate.

Everything is a team stat. Yards, TD's, completion percentage, attempts, wins. THEY ARE ALL TEAM STATS. The QB is not passing to himself or blocking for himself. The QB isn't making all the play calls. Conservative, aggressive, run/pass. At the end of the day look at the entire picture with Eli. He doesn't pass the eye test of a HOF QB.
-
Is this the same guy who is exactly .500 as NFL starting QB? 7th in careers yards is going to quickly fall to about 17th in about 10 years as the current group of QB's continues playing. Eli is one of the first QB's to benefit from the change to a passing league. That is why he is retiring 7th for now. But he will be passed up by a number of guys over the next 10 years or so. Had at least one of Eli's two Super Bowl runs been Joe Flacco like in terms of carrying his team i would put more weight in his HOF candidacy. As it is, his numbers were below average compared to his peers and he lost as many games as he won. How does that make a HOFer? I mean the postseason shouldn't be the end all be all when it comes to the HOF. And again, he didn't carry his team in any of those two postseason runs.
