I think I would compare our back up situation to that of the Steelers last year. Rudolph and Duck were pretty bad. Otherwise the Steelers were pretty stacked as a team overall. If Josh misses a game or two we might survive a two game losing streak to still make the playoffs. But if he goes down for 4-5 games. We might be looking at 1-3 or 1-4. Barkley's big game against the Jets seems like ages ago as he hasn't looked that great in the games he has appeared in since, albeit in less than ideal circumstances against the Patriots stout defense and Jets last year without most all of our starting offense.

Newton vs Allen and Pats vs Bills

Honestly, I think we are all maybe getting ahead of ourselves in thinking Cam even starts the season as their starting QB. You never know with New England. -

We must have mutual friends. -
I guess i got to look at both schedules again but off the top of my head I don't see a huge difference. We finished last season with a murders row of tough defenses. Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New England all in succession. Replace Baltimore with the 49ers for 2020. Overall I guess there are some better teams on paper like Seattle and Kansas City. The big questions mark will be New England. They had a historically great defense last year. It's why we couldn't beat them even once when their offense was below average. This year seems much more likely to at least get a split with them. They lost some key defensive pieces and even if they returned everyone from the defense it's just hard to duplicate back to back great years especially takeaways. I think we end up losing to the Cardinals in Arizona. I can see it already. That's going to be a tough game for us.

I had to go back and check the box score for the Miami game becuase it sure didn't feel like there was a game winning drive in any of those two games. I knew we were down at the half in the first game. So the first game we trail 14-9 at halftime. Nobody scores for the entire 3rd quarter. Score still 14-9. Then Allen and the Bills score a 1:05 seconds into the fourth quarter to take a lead for good 17-14. By definition it is a game winning drive. But definitely doesn't feel like one. The Jets game was just a joke of a game, first half really. Play that game again 10 times and Allen doesn't come close to turning the ball over 4 times in the first half. Pick six off of Beasely's hands. And for what it is worth that was probably the best team the Jets fielded for 3 quarters of football all season. I don't really have a problem with the Steelers game. We were going against a legitimate defense on the road that was playing for their season. Allen didn't have a pretty game but he didn't choke and cost us the game. It would have been interesting to see what Allen and the offense would have done had they trailed in that game by two scores at any point, but that wasn't the situation. And going against a great defense like the Steelers had it would have been a bad head coaching decision to tell the offense to push it.

Why rip on Lamar when our very own QB is a rushing machine? Allen at his best has ever only been matched by Vick and Jackson. I pointed out last off-season a couple times how Allen' six game stretch of rushing numbers after coming back from injury last year were only possibly matched by one such stretch that Mike Vick had with the Falcons. Since then, Lamar put together a six game stretch that was better than both Vick's and Allen's. But still, Allen is literally one of the best to ever do it when he is rolling. Allen is second to only Cam Newton in total rushing TD's in a players first two seasons Allen is the only player in NFL history to rush for 8 or more TD's in a season while having a YPR greater than 7.0

Same here. I'm huge Allen supporter and pretty surprised he made this list. I think the media way underrates his athletic ability. He's a better athlete than Newton. In my mind, this early in his career only Vick and Lamar have done more with their legs at the position than Allen. With as many athletic QB's as their have been in the NFL over the years that really means something.

The league owners and the NFLPA should be able to come to whatever agreement they want when it comes to pay and service years accrued.

Seahawks trade for Jamal Adams

Isn't it good for the Jets by definition if it is a good deal for them? I'm with you on Gase but non of that really matters in just grading the trade. -
Seahawks trade for Jamal Adams

Maybe they are trying to get back to the LOB? But that defense was stacked all over. Not just at safety. And the best player in the secondary was probably Sherman. They don't have anyone on Sherman's level. -
Josh Allen year 3 comparisons
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His ceiling is Newton and Mahome's MVP seasons combined. Somewhere around 60 total TD's and over 5600 yards. His floor is Blake Bortles and Colin Kaepernick. -
Josh Allen year 3 comparisons
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By far Turbitzky's biggest problem in year 3 was his inability or reluctance to make plays with his legs. In Turbitzky's break out second season he converted 29 of his 68 rushing attempts into first downs. A 43% clip. In year 3 his 1st down conversion rate plummeted to 25%. He ran the ball 30% less and for 54% less yardage than he did in 2018. This was a problem because he clearly left a lot of plays on the field since he did not make up for these missed running plays with better and more efficient passing numbers. Honestly, Allen's year three passing number could look very similar to the ones of Turbitzky that the OP posted. The passing stat not posted by the OP that I would most not want Allen to have similar is Turbitzky's league worst 6.1 YPA. In 2018 Turbitzky was a respectable 7.4 in that category. Allen wasn't good last year at 6.7 but you can live with it. Brady was 6.6 last year and Wentz was 6.7 and both made the playoffs. There was a big drop off after 6.6 where Rudolph was 31st in the league at 6.2 and Turbitzky was 32nd with 6.1 If Allen can just up his YPA to 7.0 - 7.2 while still being the aggressive and efficient runner he has always been I think he will have a very good year. -
Seahawks trade for Jamal Adams
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would I be salty as a Bills fan? Makes no difference to me if Adams is good or not. If your theory is true I should actually be happy he is gone. I see this as a negative as I don't see the Jets pass coverage missing a beat without him and the Jets get two first round picks to build on. Adams forte is playing around the LOS and even in the backfield. That's great for a few nice splash plays and highlights. But will he make enough plays on 3rd and 10 if he doesn't get to the QB or is in coverage? -
Seahawks trade for Jamal Adams

He's an average coverage safety. I rather have a defense that utilizes a traditional front seven to create pressure and control the LOS and keep the safeties for coverage mostly. Like our defense. -

Fantastic trade for the Jets actually. Adams can now go downgrade Seattle's pass coverage. But hey, he'll get you five or six sacks so it's worth it right? -
I wasn't sold on McDermott until Allen started showing his upside in 2018. 2017 was a nice story but I wasn't at all sure what to make of it. We had a couple of UGLY blow out losses and managed to fall ass backwards into the playoffs. And most our players were holdovers from the Rex and Whaley era. McDermott missed badly on Peterman when he replaced Tyord but at the time we could excuse it as McDermott trying to light a fire under the team or under Tyrod who was playing very poorly. But where McDermott badly missed was choosing Peterman as the starting QB for 2018. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. So now McDermott was fooled twice by Peterman and the guy we have as our supposed savior in Allen is viewed as one of the biggest projects to ever come out of the draft at the QB position. Odds were not looking good that McDermott or Beane knew what the heck they were doing at the post important position. But then the Vikings game happened. And we all got a first hand look at what Allen's potential and tenacity for the game was. Then coming back from injury later in the year he showed us even more of his physical talent and why we drafted him. I don't see why that would be controversial. McDermott is the only one to be here for the full 3 years that included two playoff appearances. Beane wasn't hired until after the 2017 draft and the selection of Tre White. McDermott's biggest flaw is the Peterson debacle, especially believing in him so much to start the 2018 season when in reality he probably shouldn't even have been on the roster. Makes me wonder if he is also overvaluing Barkley.

Cowherds top 10 AFC qb’s. Allen at #5.
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Stank_Nasty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When you take a team that missed the playoffs 17 consecutive seasons and make them a playoff team 2 out of your first 3 seasons you are going to get props. And the one season that was missed was a total rebuild year with a rookie QB. I had my doubts about McD after the Peterman debacle decision in San Diego but things have turned out okay. Taylor was obviously done that year and McD was either trying to light a spark under Taylor which didn't work because Taylor just doesn't have the necessary skills or was hoping Peterman would some how miraculously spark us. Actually, where I was lowest on McDermott was after the Baltimore and Chargers games in 2018. McDermott seemed to have egg all over his face after once again being fooled into thinking Peterman could start. And Allen had not yet shown any positives which was alarming when combined with how big of a project he was. But then the Vikings game happened I started to feel much better about the upside of our young QB. -
And Washington Senators...
