Oh I totally agree. But see my other post as well. Diggs is simply elite. Always running perfect routes and getting open. And he's tuff as nails. To your point Allen has consistently progressed from Day 1. I always post the half season splits for Allen. Allen: 2018 Games 1-6 61.8 rating 2018 Games 7-12 72.6 rating 2019 Games 13-20 82.9 rating 2019 Games 21-27 88.8 rating 2020 Games 29-36 102.4 rating 2020 Games 40-46 111.6 rating 2021 ??? He's been getting better from day 1. Before Brown and Beasley and before Diggs. But make no mistake. Having an elite receiver like Diggs takes a QB to the next level. Imagine Mahomes' numbers without Hill or Kelce.

I think it is a little of both. Allen naturally progressing as a passer and Diggs making things easier and making big plays. Just off the top of my head I think all three TD's Diggs caught against the Patriots on MNF, I don't think we have another receiver on the roster that scores on those three plays. Not to say Allen wouldn't have eventually gotten us in the end zone on a couple of those drives but those were either tough catches (bouncing off the defender for one of them), great route running or great run after the catch ability. The should have been game winner against Arizona also comes to mind.

He's had two all-pro caliber receivers on his roster since day 1. Allen had. Andre Holmes, Kelvin Benjamin, Robert Foster, Zay Jones and Charles Clay his first year. And the media thought he was one of the worst passing QB's ever. Second year, Allen's numbers improve greatly but getting rid of all those guys and adding more respectable receivers like Brown and Beasley. Not elite but good receivers. Third year, the Bills go out and get Allen an elite receiver in Diggs. And big surprise, with Diggs, Brown and Beasley Allen becomes elite. Allen has been trending in the right direction since day 1. He's physically more gifted than Mahomes and he appears to be just as football smart.

This. It's not a coincidence that Allen became elite in his very first season playing with Diggs. Mahomes has played his entire career with two pass catchers as elite as Diggs. Those saying that Allen needs to repeat his elite season next year. I'd say: 1. True. 2. Is there anyway he doesn't? He's a lock for a 35-40+ total TD and 4,500+ yard season again. I know there is some fear of "one year wonders" like Wentz and Goff but I just don't see that happening with Allen. Not with the consistent improvement he's shown since day one and the elite physical traits he has. That higher ceiling is the key. It's why there is whispering among GM's that they would take Allen over Mahomes today, even with just one elite season to Mahomes three. This season Allen is playing pretty much exactly like Mahomes, a taller, faster and stronger Mahomes.

The running game has to be there vs KC this week.

I'd be interested in your breakdown of the Falcons game. That was really one that easily could of been an L for the Chiefs late in the game if the DB doesn't drop the pick in the end zone. It was more of a defensive game compared to the two Raider games. -

Mahomes has played his entire career with not one but two first team all pro talent receiving threats. If he was drafted by the Bills he would have been slinging the ball to Kelvin Benjamin, Andre Holmes, Zay Jones, Robert Foster and Charles Clay. How many of those dudes are even on rosters still let alone starting? Do you think he is a league MVP his first year starting throwing to those receivers? Allen's had exactly one season with a first team all pro caliber receiver. And he put up an MVP worthy season. The fact that he won't win the award doesn't take away from the fact that his stats this year are good enough to probably win the award perhaps 5 out of the last 10 seasons. So again, the very first year Allen gets one super star receiving threat (Mahomes has always had two) he basically becomes Mahomes and puts up Mahomes numbers. Is that just a coincidence? And that is with just one super star receiver to Mahomes two. And Kelce was already an all-pro tight end before Mahomes became the starter in KC. And Tyreek Hill, though not an all-pro had a pro-bowl year before Mahomes became the starter and it was clear he was on his way to becoming elite before Mahomes took over. Mahomes entered into the perfect situation in Kansas City. A team that was on the upswing and had already put together a string of four consecutive winning seasons under Andy Reid. And in his first season he was able to sit on the bench and watch the Alex Smith have the best year of his career while the Chiefs put together their 5th consecutive winning season. Mahomes took the team over from a QB that had a career year. Smith had a career year because the talent on that team was finally breaking out. The situation in Buffalo basically would have been a complete 180 had Mahomes been drafted by the Bills. Am I a biased Bills fans? Yes. But I also think I've laid out a heck of an argument as to why it's not a slam-dunk case that the Bills made a mistake in passing on Mahomes. You'll have to excuse Egg Man. His heart is larger than his brain. -

Mahomes become that starter in KC with all-pro caliber players in Kelce and Hill. In Buffalo he would have had an over weight Kelvin Benjamin, Andre Holmes, Charles Clay, Robert Foster and Zay Jones. I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. Mahomes would not have been the same player in Buffalo. He would be in a similar situation as Allen where is play gradually got better as the roster got better. Look at Allen as a perfect example too. Allen was already trending in the right direction in terms of his growth over his first two year but once we got him a legitimate receiver in Diggs he became a top three QB in the league. And that is with one all-pro caliber receiver. Mahomes has been playing with two all-pro receivers his entire career. And yes, I know Beasley made second team all-pro this year with one vote from Peter King (because King was looking at it from a slot receiver perspective) but I think the point still stands. Kelce and Hill is basically the equivalent of having two receivers the same caliber of Diggs. And Mahomes has had them since day one. Allen's only had Diggs this year. -
Weather is the Bills kryptonite....
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well looks like we are 2-2 in those games. The other teams offense has to play in those ugly weather games as well. We had a lot of injuries and scheduling conflicts when we went 0-2 against the Titans and Chiefs. I like our odds a lot more today against both those teams in the same weather conditions. -
If I am Watson, I'd be trying to force a trade to the NFC with my no trade clause. Yeah, you want to play and compete against the best and all that, but let's do that in the Super Bowl. Not in the divisional title game and conference championship game every single year. I know the two teams with the biggest assets are in the AFC, Jets and Dolphins. But who are the candidates in the NFC? Bears...they've been killed for taking Turbitzky over Mahomes and Watson and now they have a chance to right that wrong. Saints... cap hell? So maybe not a realistic option. Wash Football Team...Do you really want to hitch your wagon to Heineke or Kyle Allen? Vikings...Cousins is Phillip Rivers 2.0 Nice stats but never good enough to get you over the top. Time for a change and youth movement. Lions... See Cousins Rams... if they have really soured on Goff, I could see this team making a move. They've shown they like to make big moves. 49ers...same as the Rams if they have soured on Jimmy G. Eagles...Can't imagine Watson signing off on going to the Eagles. Panthers… Bridgewater is not the future. I think there are more teams in the NFC that should/could make a change. They just don't have the assets. Although with a lot of these, contract wise, Cousins, Goff and Stafford it's more of a somewhat even trade so less need to give up multiple first and second round picks.

#58 with a little dash of "salt"

Just low ball the QB! -
Yeah I can see that now looking at your third image again as Allen is nowhere close to winding up yet. Looks like the bottom line is Allen threw the ball to Diggs way too late. The ball should be out a split second before the third image. My guess may be that Allen was deadest on going to Diggs at the snap seeing the look the defense gave him. Didn't anticipate the safety getting over and even though the safety did he thought screw it I can get it there and just incase I'll put a bit extra on it to make sure only Diggs will be able to get there worst case scenario. So in a way he put a little extra on it to make sure it definitely wasn't going to fall short where the safety could jump it. So I supposed it could be considered a semi throw away with the hopes of still being able to make a play.
-
Watching the replays it looks like the wind sails the ball far to the right towards the sideline towards the end of play. Hard to say. The frustrating thing about the play is that we are going for the big play there when all we need is six yards. But at the same time hard to blame Josh because it absolutely looks like single coverage and even if the safety bails to help at the snap you probably figure you can beat the safety. Looking at the images the ball maybe needs to come out immediately to get the ball to Diggs around the 30 yard line when he is still single covered before the safety gets there. But I'm thinking Josh didn't expect the safety to be able to make up so much ground. Also, I trust Allen to put the ball where it needs to be on Besley but you are right. In doing so Beasely gets tackled or ran out of bounds at least two yards short of the marker. Would have brought up an interesting decision on 4th and 2. Bills probably would have went for it. Also, I don't think that pass to Diggs was a throw away in anyway. The fact that the kickers combined to go 2 out of 6 on attempts all well inside the 50 yard line tells you that the wind was a major factor in the passing game. Particularly so on deep passes.
-
I'd wait to get a deal with an NFC team. Bears, 49ers, Lions, Eagles and Redskins all come to mind. Plenty of QB needy teams in the NFC. Even if that means having to call his bluff for the 2021 season. I get that the Jets and Dolphins have the assets but you just can't trade him inside the conference.

Win big now, or lots of victories but no ring?

Option 2 without a doubt. I'm assuming option two includes the option of multiple super bowl losses and not just one and one in the playoffs? One Lombardi this year and then 15 years of losing seasons would be too much too handle. Something would seriously have to go wrong for that to happen given how good this team is right now. If I was over 60 I'd probably take the first option. But being under 40 I have plenty of time still. Knock on wood. -
Lamar Jackson's Charity

Haven't donated to this one. But serious question, Bills win the Super Bowl, how much will we collectively donate? I'd think $10,000,000 is easily in reach. -
The End of the Lamar Jackson Era

Fair. Enough. Just making sure you everyone realizes it's a near certainty that this year was not a fluke and that Allen's floor is likely a notch or two above decent play. -
