How can the bills afford Diggs and Allen
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to dbfla10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And Chris Jones and Frank Clark. -
That might be right. Will depend on how much cheaper he'd be compared to Robinson and Godwin and perhaps JuJu will land a larger contract then him too. He could be well worth it though if he puts up the production he did in Detroit. Some are throwing around the idea of TY Hilton which i don't care for. Guy is older than John Brown and shorter than John Brown. Hilton used to be a consistent 16+ ypr guy, even his one season without Luck in 2017 he was at 16.9ypr. These last two years he's dipped down to 11.1 and 13.6 ypr. I think we need size at the position. I want a burner that is around 6'4". I'll take a little less speed if the guy comes with a little more height. Gabe Davis is listed at 6'2" which shocked me. He looks like he is 6'4" on our team because we have so many guys at 6 feet and under.

How does Josh work on his nerves...?

OP, you're an idiot. Had to be said. If your theory is correct OP, why didn't he choke against the Colts in a tight game where the defense didn't show up? Or why didn't he choke in a tight windy game against the Ravens? Were those not big games? -
Gotta vent here a little

Too much speed. Fastest most dynamic receiver in the league. Fastest (?) tight end in the league. -
Their guys have size. I feel like that's what we are missing. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin is a good starting point for any team. I'm going off of how Mahomes contract was done. Mahomes wasn't paid ridiculous money this year even though he signed his extension last off season. He would be great but Robinson will probably be the highest paid receiver in free agency. We also already have a do it all guy in Diggs. I think we can get by with more of a one trick pony 6'4" deep threat type guy. Would really compliment Diggs and take advantage of Allen's arm.

I totally agree about Tight End. But great ones don't grow on trees. Even hard to find really good ones. How are we more than fine at WR with Brown and Beasley getting older? I think we get one more good year our of Beasley but I'm not at all confident in getting another good year out of Brown. I'd take an elite Tight End over a receiver if we can find one. But that's the tricky part.

What I'm clinging to (and I'm sticking to it)

Even going back to his High School days Josh has pretty much always been a year behind his peers. I think next year could be the year he really dominates the regular season and earns that MVP. The Chiefs will still be a juggernaut so whether they will go all the way will depend a lot on what moves Beane can pull off this off-season. As much as I love Brown and Beasley both guys are on the wrong side of 30 and had injuries this year. I think we can count on one more solid season from Beasley but not sure about Brown. Also need some more height. -
Receiver or Tight End. Look at the teams competing in the super bowl this year. Each has not one but two elite receivers for each team. Beane is going to have to continue to work his magic. My nomination: Kenny Golladay. We have to check out his medicals coming off that hip injury but he'll only be 27 to start the season next year. At 6'4" he still has enough speed to take the top off the defense. A deep threat that has averaged nearly 17 yards per reception for his four year career. He'd play the Marquez Valdez-Scantling role in our offense. Would we be able to clear enough cap space to afford him? He's a candidate to be franchise tagged too if the Lions can't work out a deal. He'll likely earn the third highest WR contract in free agency this off-season behind Allen Robinson and Chris Godwin.

Yep. I don't have an account over there on the Orange Mane but yeah, I've seen you beat those guys over the head about them passing on Allen. The way I see it, the Broncos just had terrible luck. That bad luck being terrible timing. Elway swung and missed massively twice on Oz and Lynch. Two big QB's, with perhaps underwhelming collegiate production and with athletic ability in the case of Lynch. But both were viewed as long term projects as Allen was. It would have taken massive balls for Elway to commit to a third prospect of this kind in Allen. The irony of it all of course is that Allen is probably the prototypical Elway QB prospect. And we learned that Elway's balls were not quite as large as we thought. Now you just need to work on chilling out your fellow Chiefs fans over at Chiefs Planet. So many posters over there feel threatened by the fact that Allen could possibly be on the same level as Mahomes. As you said, the Bills have done a bang up job on developing Josh. Not just working with him specifically but building good offensive personnel around him. Not a knock at Mahomes but Allen was not given a golden plate so to speak when he became the Bills starting QB like Mahomes was given from day 1. It seems many Chiefs fans and some in the media do not take this into account.

Anyone thinking we pretty much utilize nearly the exact same game plan both on offense and defense as we did for week 6? Just add in a couple wrinkles. We held the Chiefs to 26 points for the game and to only 23 going into their final possession. Down only six with a chance to get the ball back and drive the field for the win. My thinking is we can't really do worst than we did on defense against the rush and we can't really have a worst offensive performance with only 206 total yards. Despite that it was less than a one score game with 4 and half minutes to go and we had them at their own 33 yard line staring down 3rd and 12. I guess if we were to change something up we would change up the offensive game plan to generate more yards. But I think Allen has progressed a lot since that game and would probably see the field a lot better both pre and post snap even with the same game plan.

I am a little concerned about Spags though. This is the dude that shut down the Patriots 2007 offense. K.C's defense is a pretty underrated unit overall. Similar to our Bills defense they seem to play well when it really matters. But I do have faith in Josh and Daboll. No way we have the same poor offensive showing we had back in week six.

I agree. In this case Matthieu is nowhere near the back. Allen rolls left with the RB back as an outlet option. Force the one defender to either commit to the back or commit to Allen. This play is probably a moot point though because they will not leave the flats completely uncovered against a QB like Allen. The coverage will be different.
-
If Lock is patient and knows the back is leaking out to the flat after chip blocking the read should be to the back. He easily has the five yards for the first down and potentially 20+ yards as there is only one defender even within 15 yards. I just don't see the Chiefs being able to play the same defense against Allen when it's only five yards to the sticks. They have nobody able to Cover Allen or a back in the flat.
