Bummed he did get the USC job. 😂

I'd love to see a bend but don't break defense show up on Sunday. Hold them to under 25.
-
I'll take the half glass full perspective and say the struggles the Bills are having in closing out close games this year is getting them battle tested for the playoffs. It seems with the exception of the Chiefs the Bills are losing to every team they may see in the playoffs. Hopefully the Bills will be ready for the rematch.
-
Not sure. But hopefully both McDermott and Daboll use this as a learning experience. I forget if it was 1st and goal or 2nd and goal but to have to call a timeout at that point to get what you think is the correct play call is insane. I mean absolute worst case scenario you just call some sort of run for Allen. Even something like a QB sneak on 2nd down from 6 or 8 yards out could gain 3 or 4 yards catching the defense off guard.

At least twice last week prior to the Monday night game I said my expectations for the season series with the Pats was each team getting a road victory. So I am certainly not concerned. It is playing out so far as I expected.

Yeah that is what i was thinking as well. Thought process then might be that McD thought we moved the ball well enough in the first half against the wind that he wasn't concerned and/or that the wind slowing down from 25 to 20 mph as the night went on meant he wanted to go with the wind in the third quarter when the conditions were worst. In the end I don't think it really matters that much. Bills moved the ball against the wind. The one TD was thrown going into the wind. The bigger factors were not running Allen more and blowing two timeouts.
-
Am I incorrect in my assumption that by deferring the first half coin toss McDermott also gets to choose the ball or the wind in the second half?
-
Hapless brings up a good point that the Bills were arguably more inept on offense with the wind in the 3rd quarter so no guarantee that they move the ball well in the 4th quarter with the wind. And the 3rd quarter field goal is likely missed if going into the wind instead of with it. I think McDermott's biggest blunders were 1. wasting two timeouts that could have given the Bills about 70-75 seconds left to work with at the end. And 2. not demanding Daboll call at least two Allen run plays when they were 1st and goal at the six yard line on I think their second to last possession of the game. I got to believe Allen can bully his way to 6 yards on 3 or 4 carries if needed.

That must be the one time that has actually come into play. Not arguing, just think the perceived threat of that scenario is always overblown when the commentators talk about going for it earlier then necessary.

The national media thinks NE is the best team in the league right now and we lost a tight game. In part because the wind conditions wouldn't allow us to make 40 yard FG's. This team can't be that bad if they barely loss to the team everyone is saying is the best in the league.

Dig up the Saints film. What have they been doing? They've beaten them 3 out of the last 4 and I think turnovers were the only thing that cost them the one L in the playoffs last year.

One thing I do have to give McDermott credit for is the inactivation of Stevenson and McKenzie. The Bills lone TD came off a Patriots blunder by their punt return team. McDermott correctly realized the conditions for returning punts were not favorable and better to not take any chances.
-
You know in all the years I never even knew that is what happened. Holy cow is that an all-time blunder. I could be wrong but I believe by deferring the first half, it gave the Bills the option to receive or kick off in the second half. McD's blunder would have been choosing to not defer again in the second half. Would have been better for the Bills to to not start either half with the ball. This takes away a possession potentially but gives them the wind in the fourth quarter. My only thinking is the wind was slowing down as the night went on and that maybe McDermott thought it would slow enough that it wouldn't be as big an issue. But that seems a bit far fetched because it was still whipping around 20mph in the 4th quarter. Down from 25 to 20 isn't much of an advantage.

No reason to research beyond five losses. There’s no way he’ll win it if the bills don’t win out. Win out and he still got a chance. Part of the equation is that the bills and Allen would have to end up with a number one seed in the AFC. That’s not happening if the bills don’t win out. He’s obviously not a shoe in if the bills win out and have the number one seed but it does leave the door open.

I agree with all of this. Bills vs. Bucs is a huge game for both Allen and Brady. Bucs win and Brady pretty much locks up the MVP over everyone. Not just Allen. Allen and the Bills win and it’s still an open race with like 6 guys all in the running still. You are correct the Bills and Allen would have to be flawless. Especially in the loss column. Both the Bills and Allen were last year in the final 5 games but this Sunday will be the Bills biggest challenge to date. But somehow win that one and the odds of winning out could jump to 50% ad it basically will come down to the second Pats game.
-
I would assume the Bills lose 2 out of the next three they will officially be "in the hunt". Maybe not, but most likely. Yes, they can gain ground back by winning the final two (likely) and having a team or two lose a game or two in the final two weeks. But that is all projection. I'm only talking about what we actually know and that was that the Bills were a loss and Raiders win away from being "in the hunt".
-
yeah because the rest of our offense was just humming a long so well. what are you talking about? Bills damn near won the game on that play. And you are criticizing one of two deep balls they threw on the night? If I’m not mistaken bills were 1/2 on pass attempts over 25 yards? Nearly 2/2 with a TD. It’s not like the game plan was calling plays with a lot of deep shots. And Allen was actually money when he did throw them.
-
It was also a heckuva play by the Pats DB too though. In hindsight, yes Allen should’ve hit Beasley there. But basically nextmanup suggesting our biggest issue was our quarterback last night is absurd. No it wasn’t our defense not being able to stop their run, our offense not being able to run the ball our receivers dropping two touchdown passes. It was our quarterback. Okey-dokey. Doesn’t Allen know he must make the correct read every single play? What is wrong with him?

Snap Counts vs. Pats, 12/6
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d also like to see the wide receiver snap count. This isn’t really the game to harp on it but once again Davis outproduces Sanders. On likely far fewer snaps. Refusing to run Allen in this game while gladly running him against other meaningless opponents is the most head scratching thing for me that McDermott and Brian Daboll did. -
Is it time to be concerned about a lack of 4th Q heroics?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
These stats tend to be like takeaways and turnover differential. They’re not very predictive season to season. I think it was Seattle last year that won a ton of one score games. And now they only have four wins on the season. I’d also say part of the issue is just our general inabilities in the red zone. We’ve been struggling in the red zone pretty much every game for all 60 minutes. So it’s not a surprise when we really need it at the end we continue to struggle.
