Derrick Henry, while not the juggernaut he was in Tennessee 2019-2022, is still a formidable player.  It's a real question how well our undersized LB will be able to cope.

For what it is worth, our back up linebackers are bigger than our starters and both starting LB's remain out.

Nothing is certain in life. But I am as close to certain as can be that Daboll will not be back here. That bridge has apparently been burned.

Maybe you guys are right. I don't recall bad blood when he left but do remember a story leaking after. Didn't he leave with the Bills coming off one of the greatest offensive postseason performances of all time? And multiple no punt games down the stretch of the 2021 regular season and post season?

I wouldn't look much into a cold handshake of the Giants game last year. That was a competitive game that the Giants loss in the final seconds.

If not Daboll, then who? Probably someone outside the organization I would assume.

  3. Makes some sense I guess. Teams get rewarded with extra rest after a short week.

Once the league goes to 18 games, if they implement two bye weeks, every team playing on Thursday night should be playing coming off a bye week. The only tricky thing about that is what about week 2 Thursday night games? I guess that would be the exception. And maybe week 3 as most teams would not want to use their first bye week so early in the season.

I’d pass on Daboll. I don’t think he was so great as an OC here. He was solid, but not the type of OC we need

Daboll's a near certainty to come back as OC if he is fired at the end of the year and Brady leaves for a HC job.

Bills have been promoting from within. They could go that route again but I can't even tell you who our offensive coaches are behind Brady currently. Would any of them be ready for an OC job?

Mahomes is better in what he has accomplished individually and with his team has accomplished in every conceivable way somebody could measure it.

    • Mahomes has best performance in NFL history in the Divisional round and the Conference Championship.  29 TD's to 2 INT's with a 10-2 record.
    • Allen has 8 TD and 2 INT's in the Divisional round and the Conference Championship with a 1-4 record.
    • Mahomes has 3 Super Bowl wins in which he has come from behind by 10 or more points / 5 playoff comebacks in the 4th quarter. Allen has zero in both columns
    • Mahomes has 3 Super Bowl MVP's and 2 NFL MVP's, Josh has zero in both columns
    • Josh has never won a playoff game in OT or a regular season game in OT, Mahomes has too many to count

If somebody called out Marino as the best of all time 20 years ago you would have laughed.  Maybe they call him out as the best passer, the best release, the best accuracy. He was likely all those things, but he was not the best QB by anyway our society has decided to measure who is. Just because it seems fashionable to some Bills fans to alter that definition so our boy is number 1 does not make it accurate. It's also a bit dismissive to the overall goal which is to win a damn championship. I apologize if I'm not for supporting a Dan Marino like argument when my expectations are that Allen won't need your charity soon enough.

I haven't been following your arguments in this thread, so maybe we share the same take.

I would say Mahomes is the most decorated QB playing in the game today. Just as Brady is still the GOAT as he is the most decorated of all-time. Mahomes is the best QB the league has seen to date but he is not decorated enough for GOAT status.

Currently, Allen is the best QB in the game today and if he keeps it up he could over take Mahomes title of best QB to ever to play the game. Whether either of Mahomes or Allen achieve GOAT status is up in the air.

  6. EJ. At the time I was happy with the selection. But I have since learned you don't trade back and select a franchise QB. If anything move up for the QB. Trading back told us everything we needed to know about EJ's talent level and if the franchise really believed in him.

Part of that run of three straight FSU starting QB's to be selected in the first round of the draft. Ponder, EJ and Crab Legs. All three busts.

AND significantly less turnovers than other MVP contending QBs.

That being said, I don't think 70% completion percentage & a passer rating of 105+ are something Josh will maintain throughout the season.

2020 was the only year he finished with an above 100 passer rating, just as 2020 was the only time he was close to 70% completions (69.2%).

I predict if he could finish right at 100 rating with 67% completions + 4,500 total yards & 40 total TDs, he should be the MVP favorite, unless someone else really takes over with crazy numbers & efficiency (again, like 2020 with Aaron Rodgers).

Then again, win total has become a big theme lately, so if the Bills don't finish number 1 or 2 in the AFC, it may not matter anyway.

If he is at or just under 4,000 passing yards I do expect his completion percentage and passer rating to be right around the highest of his career. Lower volume tends to equal greater efficiency. I think a 105 -110 passer rating is well within range if he is supported by a ground game other than himself.

I can't judge Purdy in that system

Are Mayfield and Murray in the conversation for lower end of top 10???

Murray is my sneaky MVP candidate / top 5 QB. When healthy I think he can prove to be a top 5 QB. His problem though is staying healthy for an entire season so we will see. Mayfield could certainly win MVP with his play and that Bucs team.

It's odd, it feels like Allen might hands down go on to be the greatest QB ever to not win an MVP. People will look back in 20 years and be like, how in the heck did this guy never win an MVP? He had an MVP season nearly every year.

Since entering the league Brock Purdy has 6500 yards 45 tds and 16 ints.  The amount of disrespect this guy gets is insane. You don't even have him top 16, instead you have guys like Trevor Lawrence who are 20-32 in their career. Sure part of his success is related to the system he's in , but I don't believe you'd be able to find 16 guys who would have produced better numbers during that stretch, I don't know if you'd find 10.

Agree that a great QB is not necessarily going to produce better numbers. The great system basically dictates the numbers any QB will put up in the system. But I do have a hard time believing Purdy would be seen as anything more than a top 15 QB on a team like the Browns or Raiders. Not bad teams but not special teams either.

Tua has no plans to retire, per Rapsheet. I think this is terrible news for the Phins, and possibly Tua himself. They're going to be stuck with that contract and a QB that is one small collision away from going through this again

Finsheaven is in meltdown btw and well worth a visit!

I suspect we don't see Tua the rest of the year but I certainly bet he would like to come back next year and then it is all about whether or not he can be cleared by a doctor. Fins seem to be screwed either way. They paid a QB $200M who just isn't good enough to beat good teams.

I agree that there isn't really a marquee matchup but I find the following games interesting... some because the outcomes are not clear and others because I think they'll be competitive:

    • Saints-Cowboys
    • Bucs-Lions
    • Colts-Packers
    • Niners-Vikings
    • Seahawks-Patriots
    • Giants-Commanders
    • Browns-Jaguars
    • Rams-Cardinals
    • Bengals-Chiefs

Some teams already have their backs to the wall and every week there are upsets.

Which favorites are gonna be upset?

Honestly, yes, those games are all great. Not sure what the OP is seeing. A lot of good narratives in all of them.

The Jets are still a very serious threat in my opinion. Yes they got beat bad in week 1 but they really limited Rodgers against that pass rush in his first game action back almost like lets get his feet wet without getting him killed. The 49ers have one of the best if not the best roster in the NFL and the Jets schedule is very soft so I expect us to have them as competition.

I just don't think Rodgers lasts the entire season. Or if he does it is because he is going to get the ball out quick and his YPA is going to be around 6.0

If that is the case, I don't see the Jets offense being good enough. And if he goes down with an injury then I definitely see the door open for the Pats to finish second.

  12. Was the Allen throw to Ty Johnson on 3rd and 12 to set up first and goal at the one, one of Allen's top 5 throws of his career? That was an unbelievable across the body throw.

I had a ton of confidence in the offense going into the season. Thought we'd be very successful there.

I was deeply worried about the D. So far the defenders have really showed the league some things about themselves. The players have stepped up pretty much without exception. And McD's scheme has continued to show that it can hold teams down even when a few of it's best players are down, and that's not so usual.

It's a long season, but man, so far so good, even on D.

Agreed. The secondary is playing absolutely lights out and the D-line is playing as well as advertised. If these two units can continue to play at a high level it will cover up our weakness at LB with the injuries.

This may need a ***HOMER ALERT***, but I'm 40, have been watching football since I was like 6, and I'm pretty sure that, in a vacuum, he's the best all-around player I've ever watched.

damn same as me. 40 and my first football memories ever were wide right putting me at six years old.

he is every bit as good as my Mahomes. Different playing styles, but both have secondary reaction skills, second to none.

Not to be that guy, but this is the picture that says everything about Josh Allen. Two guys on the ground, a flag on the ground from Josh throwing a defender by the facemask, one defender looking in disbelief, stiff arming the best defensive player in the league, all with a huge grin on his face.

The dude as a mother ***** animal and I ***** love him.
