Josh Allen already impressing in Buffalo
Commish replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just heard Schopp's quip about Allen's twitter controversy and whether that was what made Allen totally Buffalo. Comes across as a poorly thought out cheap-shot, that hung there without comment from Sal and Bulldog, and one Schopp had the good sense not to pursue. -
Take A Minute to Appreciate This Forum

Absolutely right - very few outright ignorant or abusive posters [see Jets and Dolphins forums, in particular], but the quality of the forum and the posts is much better than I've seen elsewhere - many very clever and/or funny posts. -

John Ledyard on with Schopp & Sal today
Commish replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep, pretty funny to review the "expert" in hind-sight: on Carson Wentz: "slow to read the field" [sound familiar] Eagles gave up to much for him [sound familiar], Paxton Lynch and Cardale Jones both higher-rated prospects. Time will tell, but I'd take McBean's opinions over Ledyards. -
By design, Allen threw hardly any screens or bubbles - not because he can't, but because his coaches asked him to throw intermediate and deep routes. That accounts in large part for the lower percentage completion. Mayfield, in contrast, was all about the short pass - much easier to get that gaudy 70% completion rate.

Excellent write-up - you put more thought and time into this one piece than Schopp and Bulldog [or White and Simon] have put into QB evaluations in the past year.

What I Don't Understand About Fan Reaction to Allen
Commish replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree - haters gonna hate. Guy's super likeable, to boot - a great QB? Ask again in three years - same can be said for all the QBs. -
We also entered the draft in the "unfortunate'' and unexpected position of having made the play-offs, hence pick #22 - only so much you can do with the cards you're dealt and the math invovled. That said, I think a move up is still a possibility.

I could believe McDermott and Beane think Peterman has more potential than most QBs in this draft. - they're in a far better position to tell than any "expert" on this board. I could also believe that a smart front office would leak [mis]information about QBs currently on the team or not, if it helped to get the person they wanted in the draft.

Yeah, this has been a really tightly-run ship - for that reason I don't find it credible. If there's anything to this rumor, the leaker's going to be hunted down and fired.

Bills will likely be thin at RB in Sunday
Commish replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is a little-mentioned reason for the QB change now - the next few games need a passing attack, esp. this Sunday as the Chargers bring an undersized DB corps against an over-sized group of receivers. -
11-13: McDermott and Coordinator Pressers
Commish replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Murphy or Brown made the comment this afternoon that the vets would not be happy switching from Taylor to Peterman, but is that really true. If the vets believe Peterman would give them the best opportunity to win, wouldn't they be ready to move on, loyalty to Taylor be damned? -
Chargers Not Happy About OPI Call vs Pats
Commish replied to EersN'Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could easily believe the Patriots would try to flip the refs, or that the NFL was biased in favor of "established" teams, but I don't see how it gets carried out in a game. If there was intentional bias on the part of the refs per some covert NFL policy - and just one person talked, which would be inevitable - it would blow the league up. Too much risk... -
I disagree. QBs are constantly milking the slide rule to make extra yardage on a scramble - if a QB is going to slide, he's got to do so before a defensive player is in the process of making a play, and he's got to complete the slide, i.e. no fake slides.

New England is last! -
OK, I'm as stunned as anybody by the waivers. But no one has commented on the new players - anyone familiar with them?

Per Donald Jones, they'll keep him for special teams alone [unless he gets traded]

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cardale Jones did not make the best first impression in his debut with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The Chargers lost to the Seahawks, 48-17, in their preseason opener. Jones completed just two of nine passes for 50 yards, rushed twice for 18 yards and was sacked for an 11-yard loss. Jones, who was dealt to the Chargers from Buffalo on July 26, was the quarterback for most of the second half. His unit was shut out in the second half after Philip Rivers and Kellen Clemens each threw touchdown passes. Jones will need stronger showings in the rest of the preseason to earn the job as Rivers’ backup.

Cameron Jefferson - whoever he is - is third on the depth chart now behind Glenn [injured] and Henderson [suspended 5 games]. Dawkins is practicing at RT. So what's up with Jefferson, and what's plan "D"?
