What if Bishop & Carter are JAGS or totally suck?
What if Josh Allen quits the NFL and moves to Hollywood????

What if AD and Troy Franklin totally suck? Then our WR corps still sucks AND our defense sucks. You just wasted picks.
At the end of the day, just trust your draft board and all the work you put into it.

Maybe Kincaid will turn into an ALL PRO TE. That isn't without the realm, I think there was enough that we saw out of him this past year to at least be optimistic of how high his ceiling could reach.
Definitely. I'm super optimistic. He had an awesome rookie year and should be the Bills' number 1 receiver.

You know what the Chiefs and Patriots, arguably the two most dominant football dynasties of the 2000's have had in common? They won most of their championships without top tier WR's.
The Patriots best wideouts in their Superbowl dynasty wins was probably Julian Edelman. What followed him was very meh, but they did have a great tight end in Gronk.
The Chiefs, aside from the one year they had Tyreek, the past two Super bowls was JuJu Smith and a rookie Rasheed Rice. They also have had a not too shabby TE in Kelce.
This clearly proves that it's not necessary to have dominant receivers to win. You just need smart, heady guys who can make catches and to have a bigtime elite QB who can make the right decisions when it counts most.
Clearly you need to have the best TEs in history.

They look good. Much better than the Packers or Steelers, for example.

Would a renovation for $1.4b be anything less?
Imagine the Bills spending $1.4 billion including tax payer money to renovate the Ralph and put a canopy over it. I'm sure there would be no complaining whatsoever .............

I'm hoping for some interpersonal drama on that team...

Named after Dan Gable. Imagine being named after a great wrestler and becoming a great wrestler. Your fate was decided from the beginning. You had no say. Your whole life planned out before you even had a say in the matter.
With his destiny already decided, he's obviously NOT going to become a football player.

I think the shift that is happening is not that you don’t want stud skill players, but you need to have as many on rookie deals as possible, and then keep recycling that talent through the draft every year. The value in re-signing a bunch of these guys after the rookie deal is being outweighed by drafting new talent on rookie deals. Teams like Miami are going to really feel the pressure soon, when they decide to pay Tua, need to really pay Jaylen Waddle soon, etc., except that a QB like Tua will probably never live up to what the Dolphins will decide to pay him.
That sounds great in theory, but will never happen in reality. There is plenty of money to go around and there are only 11 spots on offense, so a team with a franchise QB combined with a stud WR/TE/RB is gonna pay that skill player the big bucks.
They can replace every other role player through the draft if they want to, but the big money contract for skill players (the majority being WRs simply based on numbers) is not going away.
-
WRs in the traditional sense...yes. They are probably becoming a "dime a dozen."
However..."receivers" are still super valuable and will be paid big big money. A receiver can be a WR, TE, or RB.
This is a QB/offense-driven league and there will always be mega-star receivers (no matter what position they play.)
Looking to the Bill's future, I could definitely see Kincaid and Cook getting the big money contracts alongside Josh because they are great receivers (even though they play TE and RB). Like you mention McCaffrey, he has paved they way for the modern RB.

Looking back at this thread I started April 4th...anyone feel differently now that Beane has shown he and the team have a lot of confidence in Shakir given we didn't make a major splash move up in draft and only drafted 1 WR overall? What about seeing him working out with Moulds again this off-season?
I can't wait to sse this offense on the field personally...
Do we look at this as confidence in Shakir or Kincaid? Or Both? I'm not sure how much playing time Shakir gets if Brady ends up using two TE sets a lot, which they should definitely do.
-
It's like when a person is transitioning. They're making changes and trying to look like someone else. They'll eventually complete the transition and look the way they want, but there's always that period where they look super weird and you're not sure exactly where it's going.
Have faith.

Go Tim Graham!!! Thanks for putting this behind a paywall. How about just reporting the news to the only (biggest) Bills fan board on the web. Maybe John Wawrow will give us some insight. Stay well, Kim! You’re the best.
I doubt John Wawrow has any actual insight.

It's going to be really interesting to see how Brady uses the TEs. Either he utilizes a lot of two TE sets or else Dawson Knox is not going to see much playing time.
Based on his history, Brady will want to use 1 TE (Kincaid) with Coleman and Samuel on the outside and Shakir in the slot.
But using Knox on the end and Kincaid in the slot I think makes more sense if they want to be a dominant running team.
Just keep it simple and out-execute the other team.

He tore wrist ligaments in game 2 and was never fully right thereafter.
Good to know. That makes me feel a little better about him potentially returning back to form.
He was still getting targets and blocking regularly throughout the year.
I thought he just became an afterthought in the passing game.

Samuel. I reckon if he stays healthy he ends up around 1,000 maybe just short of it. I have something like:
Samuel 925
Kincaid 850
Shakir 800
Coleman 650 (but leads us in touchdowns)
Knox 400
Cook 350
That gets you to 3,975. Then you have you bits and pieces guys contributing another 300-500 between them.... running back 2, Morris, Hollins whoever else is a depth receiver.
Seems generous for Knox. He was barely a part of the passing game last year. 186 total yards in 12 games.

McDermott always preaches "complimentary football." That's the team's philosophy. We're reminded of this philosophy all the time.
57 minutes ago, HappyDays said:Why would they let their OC have major influence? He's their 3rd in 4 years. Under McDermott it's written in stone that we'll have to hire a new OC every 2-3 years because the current one will always eventually be fired or hired away as a head coach. And it's not like McDermott is dictating the long-term offensive philosophy beyond a vague oversight. So any time we add players to the offense it won't be with any particular system in mind. They're going to throw a bunch of low investment guys at the coach and tell him and Allen to figure it out.
A lot of fans have seemingly convinced themselves that small ball, ball control offense has been the plan all along. I don't think that's true at all. I think the personnel investments have forced that to be the only valid offensive philosophy we can use this year. Is it what Brady wants? The guy that coached an LSU offense featuring Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson? Color me skeptical. But it's the offense he'll get and he'll like it, or else we'll cycle on through to the next offensive coach getting their feet wet.
Brady coached Curtis Samuel to his best statistical year. You don't think Brady had influence in getting Samuel?

I woulda rather ran our RB room back with Cook/Ty Johnson and using that 4th rd pick on another WR. As it is it seems like we're putting an awful lot of stock into Coleman devolping into a #1 receiver this season and Shakir into a number 2. Id like a little more insurance than that.
Coleman is 2a and Shakir is 2b to their #1 Kincaid.

As I said, there's room to criticize McBeane for getting into the situation they were in, but they certainly seem to have navigated the situation quite nicely.
Every team gets to that position, though. It's the nature of the league and the cap. The Chiefs were in that position too, but still maintained their championship calibre because, like you said, coaching and 5-star QB plus other legit talent. Beane for sure saw it coming and it's his job to know how to navigate it. He executed his plan and we'll see how it goes.

All fans want their team to be champions. However, most don't need it in order to feel personally fulfilled.
You're not involved with the team. Their failures are not your failures, just as their accomplishments are not your accomplishments.
That's the weird dynamic with fandom that some people get hung up on and it affects their emotions to an unhealthy degree.
