  1. Bills fans are fond of saying how much "talent" the Bills have. But to me discipline, consistency and durability and all attributes of "talent". Jerry Hughes and Aaron Williams are not great talents because they lack discipline. Percy Harvin isn't a great talent because he lacks discipline. Dareus isn't a great talent because he lacks consistency.
  2. Measured on economics almost all of us are certainly losers compared to Sammy.
  3. Its hard to blame Watkins or the fans for this situation. Watkins is a very good player who played through injury last year and has had bad luck with injuries this year. And he is truthful when he points out that the Bills are not in a position to use him properly in many games. From the fans perspective Doug Whaley and OBD built Sammy up to be a "generational talent" at WR who was going to make any QB instantly better by his very presence. This was the first time in NFL history a GM traded up to a top 5 pick to get a WR. It was a unique event. Fan expectations were not for a competent #1 WR. Fan expectations were for a guy who people would compare to Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson and AJ Green. And that certainly hasn't happened yet.
  4. Mallet is better than Josh Johnson. He is a legit option if Taylor is hurt, and EJ plays like he did in the first half last week.
  5. The Bills haven't invested enough into the QB position and what they have invested, they have invested poorly. Its tough to make up. To me the Ravens did it right. They drafted a QB every year for 6 or 7 years prior to landing Joe Flacco. Even after that they drafted Tyrod Taylor, because they value the QB position. They are famous for their defense, so it is clear that the heavy investment in the QB position did NOT cause them to under invest in other positions. Whaley has been with the Bills since 2010. Here is a list of current starting QBs who joined their current team since Whaley came to Buffalo. Carson Palmer Alex Smith Blake Bortles Sam Bradford Andy Dalton Kirk Cousins Josh McCown Russel Wilson Ryan Tannehill Peyton Manning Ryan Fitzpatrick Jameis Winston Derek Carr Colin Kaepernick Andrew Luck Bryan Hoyer Teddy Bridgewater Cam Newton Nick Foles With the exception of Luck, Winston, Mariotta and Peyton Manning, it is theoretically possible that the Bills could have added any of these with the right trade moves. Quite a few of these guys would be better than the Bills current group. Although Tyrod is still viable to work out, if he can stay healthy.
  6. Donald Trump is going to have to call the Bills "low energy".
  7. Billsey is an awesome adjective/adverb. Everyone who is a Bills fan instantly will understand the combination of incompetence and bad luck that comes together to form a Billsey situation.
  8. Didn't they advance in the Playoffs with Peyton? Aren't they undefeated now? Fairly asinine example to compare to a team that is 3 1/2 games out of first after 6 games, and who has never made the playoffs since the current GM joined the team in 2010. If you ignore things like discipline, durability, guys like Aaron Williams and Marquis Goodwin are athletic studs. In terms of being the complete football package, the Bills rank in the lower half of the league on "o-line" "linebackers" "recievers" and "QBs". The roster is fairly average overall. Too many posters seem to think the benchmark of "talented" is being better than the 2009 Bills roster. Personally I think the benchmark is being better than the three teams in your division.
  9. Durability is actually a player attribute. Its one the current GM really tries to "beat". An older McCoy, injured Kiko, Injured Harvin, Injured Karlos, Injured Cyril Richardson, are all examples of guys people thought Whaley was a genius for getting "value" on. Turns out they dropped in value because they aren't durable. Its part of the problem, not an excuse for other problems.
  10. Yesterday's game really happened. The Bills have three choices, 1) they can go forward without changes and assume they are on the right course. 2) The teams leaders can try to forge a new direction for the team (new personnel, coaching or schemes) or 3) the team could start in the direction of getting new leadership. For all the ranting for the Bills about lack of continuity, OBD has had a remarkable run of continuity in the executive suite and at the GM/Assistant GM position. New leadership at the OBD/GM level should be on the table.
  11. The Jaguars are horrible. EJ was more horrible than the Jags in the first half. He was slightly less horrible than the Jags in the second half. Just to be clear: Slightly less horrible than the Jags is synonymous with horrible. So EJ was horrible in both halves. Hopefully this clears up any confusion some people are still having.
  12. Its all part of Russ Brandon's master plan. If the Bills win they sell out easily. For Russ to succeed they must lose, so he can add value by convincing the rubes to buy tickets again because "this year will be different". Rexy is on a five year guarantee, he can afford to lose this season easily.
  13. But when you are using 18% of the salary cap on the QB, its a bigger challenge to fill out the rest of the roster.
  14. The well known benefits of continuity require that Russ Brandon be brought back in as interim GM for a year, while he turns over every rock looking for the next GM
  15. Tebow is a far better option than EJ. Its not really close. In actual games where they counts wins and losses, Tebow has been far better than EJ.
  16. Andy Dalton Colin Kaepernick Zach Mettenberger Nick Foles Ryan Tannehill Alex Smith Teddy Bridgewater Derek Carr Kirk Cousins Russell Wilson Carson Palmer All those guys could have been dealt for or drafted by the Bills. Its really weird to think of this as a binary decision between Fitz and the Bills other Qbs.
  17. Doug Whaley has been with the Bills in a senior capacity since 2010. There is not a player or coach on the roster that he wasn't involved with selecting or resigning. There is all kind of discussion about "talent on paper" vs. coaching vs. bad luck etc. But when the orchestra is off-key for six years, it really is reasonable to take a look at the job the conductor is doing. In addition to the highly questionable Manuel and Watkins picks, Whaley has had a propensity to look for guys who "fall" for non-football reasons including injuries. Richardson, Kiko, Karlos are all guys every on the board runs around saying how we "got a virtual first rounder"). Then it turns out they fell for a reason. We need a GM who makes his own luck.
  18. The history of OBD over the last 17 years is too focus fans on excuses for futility. This years version is injuries. Provides no real explanation for the regression of the defense or the complete lack of discipline on the field. But as long as the fans stay focused on the excuses, they can continue to bamboozle people into thinking management can build a championship contender, if it wasn't for the damn uncontrollable excuses.
  19. Six years of Nix/Whaley and we are left with a ball club that still has questions at coaching and QB and a roster that doesn't look like it is built to last. Basically the flat out success of the last 6 years are landing a #3 overall pick in the 2011 draft and signing a 100 mm pass rusher.
  20. If the lions were foolish enough to trade him, the Bills would be wise to make a deal.
  21. My favorite is when the interview the "lead journalist" from BuffaloBills.com to tell us how everything is coming along just fine.
  22. Well, if the driver was drunk and speeding and it was a dry sunny day, and the newscaster reporting the accident said it was all bad luck and bad weather and the police were picking on the driver by arresting him, I would say he was doing a poor job of reporting.
  23. Fitzpatrick is 99% likely to never be the starting QB of a perennial playoff winning team. His many years and opportunities in the league make that pretty much clear. Taylor probably isn't either because he probably doesn't have the right combination of talent and durability. But he might. As a fan I would rather the Bills try the guy who "might" be the answer vs. a guy who almost certainly isn't.
  24. This is an excellent point. But its like trying to look away from a car wreck.
