  1. Being last the release time stat isn't a good thing. The Bills propensity for holding penalties certainly is impacted by this. http://espn.go.com/blog/green-bay-packers/post/_/id/26079/beat-the-clock-aaron-rodgers-quicker-release-helps-packers-offense-improve
  2. Have you factored in that in their interviews its clear the players and coaches have given up on this season? Or is that a smokescreen?
  3. I would rather be at 8-5 than 6-7, but that is just me.
  4. The Bills are in mediocrity purgatory. Pretty good roster, half way decent coach and an equal number of older guys who have likely peaked, and younger guys who might get better. They are poised to be 8-8 for the foreseeable future.
  5. I don't know about only the fans enduring the Drought. Whaley has had 6 off seasons contributing to the drought. The Bills most expensive player Mario Williams has been here for many year now, and may be done with the team.
  6. Style wise he is similar to Flacco. Seems like a fairly logical backup.
  7. If Taylor turns into a consistent top 10 QB, this rosters is salvageable. If he isn't the guy, then this team is one season away from a complete tear down.
  8. McCoy has a lot of mileage. He missed games this year. Next year is likely to be down. He does play hard.
  9. The Bills have a large portion of their salary cap invested in a relatively small number of players. Plus a couple of younger guys with some good skills. Heading into next year this is how how see the teams main player assets Mario Williams - on the decline. He may very well end his Bills career without a playoff appearance. Marcell Dareus - holding steady, might get back to last years level, might decline further. Not worth the money in any case for how Ryan uses him Jerry Hughes - holding steady overall a very athletic talent, who because of his lack of discipline averages out to an average player. way over priced for his net production Aaron Williams - on the decline, just hope he stays healthy Stephon Gilmore - holding steady. Leodis McKelvin - on the decline Darby - on the rise Preston Brown - holding steady Bradham - holding steady Lesean McCoy - on the decline and disgruntled Tyrod Taylor - on the rise. Biggest bright spot on the team. Has a solid 50/50 chance to become a legit NFL starting QB Charles Clay - holding steady. Most over priced TE in the NFL Offensive line - holding steady or decline. Not really a single "great" talent in the bunch Karlos Williams - concussion problems probably puts him in the decline category Sammy Watkins on the rise. Another bright spot Robert Wood - holding steady Chris Hogan - holding stead at a low level So far Whaley has averaged about 1.5 impact players per draft. In my view this squad of players has peaked and is unlikely to show much improvement next year. I really don't know what I would do to fix the problem.
  10. 17 years of Russ Brandon, 6 years of Doug Whaley. We definitely just need to let management have more time to get it right.
  11. The Bills are the only NFL team who has had 3 of the current starters in the NFL on its roster. Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Cassell. 3 may not sound like a lot, but its almost 10% of the entire NFL.
  12. The Bills continue to be the most talented team with a crappy record. It will be a travesty if Doug Whaley is not voted as NFL executive of the year. 1) He drafted the DROY of the year in the second round with Darby 2) He signed the greatest defensive football mind of our generation to be head coach in Rex Ryan 3) He signed the comeback player of the year in Richie Incognito 4) He pulled a legit NFL QB out of free agency 5) He paid a cool quarter of a Billion for the greatest front four in all of football (or are they just a bit above average and simply the highest paid, I forget) 6) He signed the most productive east-west running back in the NFL who was able to help the Bills lose only by three to his former team This probably the most talented and best coached 6-7 team in NFL history. I am stoked.
  13. It takes a great QB and great management. It is much easier to build the non-QB portion of the team when you draft in the top 10 every year, and only have $5 million tied up in a QB. Once teams tie $20 mm in a QB it gets much harder. The Ravens and Saints are examples of this problem. But when all is said and done, in the last dozen years, only Big Ben, Peyton, Brady and Flacco have represented the AFC in the super bowl
  14. Is any current Bills starter been a starter on a team that won a playoff game? I don't think there is. In this day of free agency its almost hard to fathom.
  15. Do they Bills have any players who have meaningful playoff experience?
  16. You don't think his 6 punt returns for TDs in college is "an indication" that he might be good at it?
  17. This season he is the highest paid tight end in the NFL. Its not my money, but his production doesn't justify it.
  18. 15 years of QB misery has made me highly skeptical. But I agree with everything you said here. Just because I can't be truly happy until we win a playoff game, my sole remaining doubt is whether or not he can stay healthy.
  19. signing another quality QB is not "getting rid of Taylor" If Taylor beats out everyone in camp, then he is the starter again in 2016. If someone else is better, they are the starter.
  20. Taylor is smart enough not to turn the ball over. This is a good thing. But he isn't talented enough to throw into tight windows, which is a bad thing. He is good at hitting wide open guys and in 1/2 of 1 game was able to throw the ball in the general direction of Watkins and let him work his magic to get the ball. I realize this is his first season as a starter. But it is also his fifth year in the league, and so the likelihood of dramatic improvements isn't high. With EJ we had to support him by making sure he was "confident" and "not looking over his shoulder" by bringing in credible competition. I hope we don't go down that road again. But he is good enough to start NFL games which is better than we have been.
  21. Our mediocre GM has landed the team a mediocre coach, a mediocre QB. He has built a mediocre offense and put together a mediocre defense. Even with an unusually large commitment in personnel to special teams, that unit is mediocre too. Oddly enough the assembly of all of these mediocre components has resulted in a mediocre 5-6 team. This is an improvement vs. having historical bad teams, but it is not really an amazing feat.
