  1. Thank you for explaining. So many people don't seem to grasp the simple concept you point out here.
  2. Well, Brandon has been the public face of the Bills for most of this century. He was even GM for a time. He was publicly the architect of the Toronto fiasco. Even bragged about. He appeared in the press over and over lamenting of how the Bills might have to move if the fans don't buy more tickets. Not sure what rock you have been living under. But Brandon's role with the team over time has been quite public and fairly well known.
  3. I don't think any of us know if McDermott or Beane think using $13+ MM per year on one WR is a good use of the salary cap or not. There are two facts that we do know: In 2016, the Panthers spent a total of $8,550,593 on its entire wide receiver corp. In 2017 McDermott declined to pick up Watson's option. Personally, I subscribe to the theory that the Bills just decided they would rather make an extension/franchise decision after the season than an option decision prior to the season. But it is very possible that McBeane has no interest in 8 figure WR contracts.
  4. Brandon is the most over rated marketing person in human history. This is his strategy for filling sits in Buffalo, Lowest ticket prices in the league Move 1/8 of the inventory to Toronto ( where he 100% completely failed) Threaten fans with moving the team if they don't buy tickets NFL blackout rules keeping the games off of tv on frequent basis. Literally any person who has ever sold a bag of popcorn could achieve the same level of "success" using that strategy. Operations off the field, stadiums conditions etc. have been a disaster since he has been at the helm, and the on field results couldn't be worse. Not sure what people think has done that is so impressive. It starts with one reason to be angry
  5. Jones has won a couple of Super Bowls and seems to have built another potential perennial playoff teams. People that don't think Jones know what he is doing have to be a bit on the slow side.
  6. The Bills did pick a QB this year that has an outside shot of 'being the guy'. This is quite a bit different, and quite a bit better than the past strategy of basically not using the draft at all to address the QB position.
  7. It is helpful when people have perspective. Only 5 NFL receivers are scheduled to make more money that Watkin's fifth year option costs next year: Antonio Brown AJ Green Julio Jones Demaryius Thomas Dez Bryant The franchise tag puts him in the Antonio Brown/ AJ Green level. I personally don't think any NFL team will pay him as much as those players. It boils down to this. The team and Watkins will work out a 3 or 4 year deal, that pays him at a level consistent with his production, or Watkins will try his luck as a free agent.
  8. The team just fired the GM and its entire scouting staff. This thread seems a bit premature. All we really know is that following the 2016 season, "something" needed to be done. The Bills did "something" with firing the coaching staff, the GM and the scouting staff. They added a rookie HC. That is "something". I am glad the Bills are going in a different direction. That is a start. There is no actual evidence to know if the new direction is any better than the old direction.
  9. So the original poster is saying that it is easier for draft picks to win a roster spot on the Buffalo Bills, who haven't been to the playoffs this century, then it is to win a roster spot on the world champion New England Patriots. I guess that proves Whaley was a genius.
  10. If the new GM works for McDermott, then I think the Bills moves make sense. But this smacks of the typical Russ Brandon half ass maneuver where nothing is synchronized, so it is impossible to hold everyone accountable at once. In three years if McDermott is a failure, the Bills will try to convince fans that the GM can't be held responsible because he didn't hire the coach. Kind of like having a GM draft a QB, then resign, and then pretend the new GM (who had been assistant GM had no real say over the draft decision). It would be nice if the Bills just synchronized things and did them in the correct order for a change.
  11. Many cancers are now able to be cured, either through surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, or a combination of treatments.
  12. Whaley has been with the team for seven years. No playoffs in that time. And people still are comfortable describing his performance as "exceptionaL" or "outstanding". He just isn't. He is just a guy who has made some madden moves that panned out and some that didn't. He has established no vision, nor ever stamped the team with a personality, you know, they way gms that build champions do. Have the Bills had worse GMs. Hell yeah. Do most of the other NFL teams have better GM"s, that is another Hell yeah.
  13. I guess the future lasts forever so it doesn't matter when it starts. But as far as 2017 and 2018 are concerned, I think I would be more excited about having Mahomes joining the team, then an unknown future drafted QB. Not because Mahomes is automatically better than someone we would draft next year. Just simply the fact that a 2018 drafted QB likely won't be available prior to 2019. There are other ways to fill the CB spot than with a #1 draft pick.
  14. If you are having a discussion about whether or not your GM is the worst in the league, its probably a pretty good indication, he is NOT in the discussion for being among the best, which is all that really matters.
  15. I don't know if Bills personnel monitors this board. Does anyone have any suggestions for the 2017 marketing slogan, in case they do.
  16. What becomes the goal for 2017 with the three "small ball players" Playoffs? We lost three small ballers with Gilmore, Woods and Gillislee. I don't totally disagree with your premise, but if the opportunity to land a true superstar like myles garret, who could very well have a 10 year NFL career were to present itself through a trade opportunity, that wouldn't offend me. Or if a QB who the team thinks has more potential than Taylor is there, I wouldn't be offended with that pick either. Like it or not with a new HC and a roster that doesn't appear to be better than last years (maybe Ragland and Shaq will alter that), I am not sure the team should be focused on 2017 roster holes.
  17. New England gets six games against the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins, its not fair.
  18. Very few GMs don't control the salary cap. Most GMs get to hire the coaches. Two sets of owners didn't trust Whaley too do either. Not sure why the fans think he is a good GM. Seven years in as a Bills employee and his employers don't trust him to handle the entire job.
  19. I hear the pats are going to go to strict ground and pound offense next year. G is the cornerstone.
  20. NFL is a bottom line business. Whaley has been the #1 or #2 football executive for the 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 off seasons. None ended with a single playoff game. You can spend all the time you want on the individual decisions made during this tenure. But 7 off seasons without a playoff game, puts anyone in the discussion as a failed football executive.
