Tyree Jackson vs Colin Kaepernick
PlayoffsPlease replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. The OP is comparing Jackson and Kaepnick directly. Jackson is an undrafted free agent. The OP has a problem with the Bills giving Jackson a tryout, rather than having Kaep. I hope this clears things up for you. -

Are Kaep's supporters now saying that no undrafted free agent QBs should be allowed a try out until Kaep is being paid starter money to ride the bench some where. Why do they support systemic oppression of these poor undrafted QBs? -
"Slow down, it's only preseason"

Don't be a jerk. Quote the whole post, and don't take things out of context . My only point is the pre-season results have no correlation to regular season results. Everyone who follows the game and uses logic is aware of this. -

Kaepernick is in Tim Tebow territory, too long out of the league, not good enough. -

We played and looked much better than the Luckless colts, and the Newton, Kuechley, Olsen, McCaffertyless Panthers. We would beat both of those teams configured that way quite easily in the regular season too. It is less clear that that translates to beating the Patriots and Jets. I am a huge Josh Allen fan. The passing game will be much better this year. There are some concerns. O-line is not looking to be anything above average. Running game seems a bit weak against starters. Defense seems about the same level as last year, which is ok, but not enough to get the team as a whole past 6-10. -
agenda post.

High level players are not signed by their existing teams for two main reasons. 1)high injury risk 2)unreasonable salary demands. So half the well know players who are free agents linked to any team are likely candidates for injury. The Bills most expensive 2019 free agent acquisition is currently injured.

They Might...Just Might, Be Really Good

The big gap so far is that we have not played against a starting QB yet. Not sure how you judge a defense as good or bad until that happens. -
Or you have an agenda. Hard for us civilians to know.

Only in your head.

Josh has a unique set of skills , truly unique, 1) strongest arm in the league. teams have to spread out to defend the entire field. 2) great scrambling abilities to let plays develop (and spread out the defense) 3) fastest QB in the league to be able to run into all the space that develops from the defense being spread out. That is why so many long runs are possible, even with one of the worst o lines in the league last year.

Mitch Morse in concussion protocol

He won't ever be totally healed. Concussion damage is cumulative. -
I agree with your comment. Confirmation bias is a huge factor in our culture. While football is a team game, the perception of every players individual efforts (not just the QB) are also highly colored by winning and losing. If at mid-season the Bills are 7-1 and Oliver is playing in the games, peoples individual evaluation of him will be much better than if the Bills are 1-7.

Would you be okay if Josh is next Cutler?

You really don't understand what you see on the field. -
In the NFL games can range from meaningless (late season game after the team has missed the playoffs, or has clinched home field advantage throughout) to immediately critical (playoffs or other win or go home games). The Bills are slight underdogs to the Jets. The teams have a couple of similarities particularly young unproven QBs. From setting a tempo for the season, I feel as though this game is a bit out sized in importance to the typical week 1 game. If Allen significantly outplays Darnold and the Bills win, (as I expect), I think Jets fans will be devastated. Do you think the Jets players will be similarly de-moralized. In the unlikely event the situation is reversed, Darnold outplays Allen and the Jets win, I think Bills fans will be pretty disappointed.

"....You are being rebuilt to be mediocre with DIGNITY. McDermott and GM Brandon Beane are very Serious Football Men who want other Serious Football Men to notice them doing Serious Football things. McDermott will get half a dozen fluff pieces written about the “program” he’s trying to create, even when the Bills are 2-6. ..."" Hopefully this is parody and not prophecy.

There is a bit of a conundrum for me for the off-season. I only follow the Bills. As a consequence, I fall into the trap of comparing the 2019 Bills vs the 2018 Bills. But those two teams won't play each other ever, so that comparison offers limited value. Additionally, It makes sense that all of the Bill's personnel moves are designed to make the team better. As a fan I assume all players who were good last year will be good, and that all young players will improve. In the case of the Bills we expect our old player who was bad last year (McCoy) to rebound. All of these assumptions are reasonable to make. It occurs to me however, that the vast majority of NFL teams are making moves designed to improve their teams. And that all fans expect their teams good players to stay good and their young players to improve. There are two exceptions to this concept that I can see 1) are any teams in "suck for luck" mode, who have gutted their rosters, and plan to start a QB who is not good now and has no future with the team or 2) teams that had to shed significant talent for salary cap reasons ( Seahawks and Ravens are teams in the past that had great declines when this happened.) My question for those that follow more than the Bills are there any teams in the suck for luck, or salary cap shed situations?

/end thread 1.) good depth is nice to have 2) the 53rd man on your roster is the most important factor on a team Many posters seem to think 1 and 2 mean the same thing. They do not . There are many factors much more important than the quality of the 53rd man on the roster.
