Like everyone says the difference in talent in the NFL isn’t much. Most games are close. The ones that aren’t are when teams shoot them selves in the foot either with turnovers, penalties or missed opportunities.
Our game against Dallas, IMO, was evident of this. We get a couple penalties to sustain drives that result in TDs and the outcome of that game was drastically different than if those didn’t happen.
The first Miami game this season our offense was flawless. Josh had a perfect passer rating, Diggs was awesome and our offense couldn’t be stopped. Tonight our offense could move the ball but just made some boneheaded plays that didn’t sustain drives or score points for us.
The following list of plays could have drastically changed the outcome of the game.
1)Josh’s first pick. Dumb play. -3 points.
2)Josh’s second pick. Guy in the flat was open to sustain drive. luckily it was fourth down and actually cost the dolphins yards
3) Josh misses bomb to Diggs. We punt on that drive. -7 points
4) Same drive right before half. McD takes a TO on 3rd and 5 with just under a minute left. Cook drops another uncontested TD. Then Josh doesn’t throw it to the EZ. Out of time. -7 points.
5) Josh fumbles on the dolphins 20 yard line on third down. -3 points.
Those plays cost us 20 points right there. That puts us up 27-14 going into the fourth quarter (maybe) and throws the dolphins out of rhythm offensively and forces them to start throwing. Our defense is built to play with a lead, not from behind.
We made none of these errors in our first meeting. We played mistake free and played complimentary football.
Luckily Harty started us out with that punt return. And Josh was able to get a Td and kill a ton of clock and all of Miami’s TOs.
PS. We need a surprise pass play out of the tush push (to a leaking TE) when teams like Miami commit everything to stop it.
