  1. No one has to live up to any promises if they don't want to. That's the scary truth. Your pay or health coverage can be slashed, and so can your pension. You're saying that people "earned" their pension. You're right they have, but why should someone else care? Good post. We can debate the merits of corporate welfare all day, but we are missing the point. Why should the local government be forced to pay for something we don't need? All you need is a field with seats for fans. We already have that. Forcing taxpayers to foot the bill to build something we already have is inexplicable.
  2. Yes, but the tax break from interest and property tax isn't really a subsidy. I'm still going to pay in more on property than I get back from the tax break. I'm also still going to pay more interest than I'm going to get in return from a tax break. The only equivalent as I mentioned would be the government cutting me a check for half the price of a new home. That's essentially what they are doing, and its ludicrous. I promise I would be beneficial to the local economy too. Build me a house and I'll offer everyone free beer every Friday night. I don't agree with any of these subsides. I'm a believer in small government that doesn't meddlewith the economy. Unfortunately that ship has sailed as evidenced by many of the responses on this topic. Big government is just sadly part of the world we live in today. Both sides of the political spectrum want to over govern. I will play devils advocate though. Business is often given tax breaks to spur the local economy. Football stadiums do not help local economies. Other business can offer the local economy jobs that are above minimum wage. Without these breaks many of them would fail. We all know that the Pegulas and other NFL owners could pay for their own stadiums. They wouldn't fail without the help.
  3. I agree, although I think if you look deeper 43 and 44 could go be remembered far worse than just being time wasters. 43 has done an amazing job of manipulating the Trump situation to make people think he was a great guy.
  4. Stadiums actually don't benefit local economies enough to upset the cost to the taxpayers. This has been proven by economists who are far more intelligent than I. That's the issue at the heart of this debate. The creation of part time minimum wage jobs do nothing to spur the economy. Jobs in areas such as healthcare, technology, education, and energy are what spurs economic growth. Stadiums don't come close to doing so. There is no viable economic reason to give corporate welfare to NFL owners. They are given corporate welfare because people are sports fans. We are being held hostage because we love sports. If they don't get stadium funding they simply move elsewhere. Local leaders are forced to cave because people want their team. No one wants to be the politician who caused their city to lose its team. New stadiums only benefit the league and its owners. Lastly, you have to ask yourself one question. How does a new stadium help the local economy more than an old one? New Era has a field and seats for fans. That's really all you need. People still work there, and fans come out every Sunday. New stadiums don't benefit any of us.
  5. If we can get a first round pick for him it would indicate that the franchise is clueless. If we are trying to dump him why would other teams view him as a first rounder? We gave up the sun and moon to get him. Letting him go would indicate that we think he's a bust. Teams don't give up first round picks for busts. It would mean that league consensus is that he still has elite potential. Why would we let him go if other teams still believe in him? It would be another case of the Bills thinking they are smarter than everyone else.
  6. What attitude? My only attitude is that I don't care if they choose to decimate their own heritage. It's not my heritage. I haven't said one negative thing about the south, so I don't know what the h*** you are talking about. It's a crying shame you weren't alive in the 19th century. You would have been able to solve a lot of problems.
  7. I don't deny them "regional loyalty". They fought a war against the United States. It is the heritage of many southerners. I don't see why any Southern local/state government would bow to pressure. I grant them all the regional loyalty they please. The statues being removed don't erase history or change anything. I'm just not going to pine the loss of those statues like many on this board. Why would I care if statues of people who fought against my forefathers were removed? I'm all about reconciliation. It's not like I'd make them remove the statues. I just said that I don't understand all the Northerners who are sad about it.
  8. I agree, but I don't care about statues that commentate opponents of the United States. Do we care about statues of other opponents of the US in wars? One bullet hitting the wrong person could have stopped my very existence. Why would I care about statues of those guys? I don't necessarily agree with taking them down. I'm just saying that as a Northerner it doesn't matter to me.
  9. I have no Southern heritage, all of this means nothing to me. I'm not sure why this upsets so many Northerners. Many of whom didn't even have any ancestors in America at the time of the Civil War. I couldn't care less about they do. I don't know why so many others do. I can understand why someone with Southern heritage would hate this. I would be completely understanding of their feelings. I just can't comprehend why in 2017 so many Northeners have a love affair with the Confederacy.
  10. Targeting the proper suspects is exactly how Israel deals with this situiaton. They've been able to do a phenomenal job staying safe considering their location. It's not as if we don't know the areas and neighborhoods where extremists have a stronghold. The western world just fails to use this information in the name of freedom and justice.
  11. John Mayer seems typical of many artists in his generation. He is a very talented guy who's not capable of creating original material that showcases his talent. There are so many talented musicians out there right now. Take a look at all of them on YouTube. Incredible instrumentalists are everywhere you look. The problem is that they aren't capable of creating their own style. Too many people are capable of emulating the guitar gods note for note, but they can't write material that comes anywhere close to those guys stuff. Thanks for posting those dates. I hope to catch a coupe of those shows. ZZ Top is one of my favorites on that list. Too bad I couldn't catch them in their prime before they started lip syncing. I understand some bands use backing tracks but ZZ Top in 2017 lip syncs as blatantly as Milli Vanilli.
  12. Last time I looked on StubHub you can at least get into Yankee Stadium (upper deck seats) for $20. I'm not sure what you all are talking about.
  13. I pay taxes too, but I don't feel like I always get much in return. No one is going to help me pay to build a new house. Why should we help billionaires build a football stadium? It's just common sense to me. I don't understand how anyone can think it's a good idea. It's just another example of big government that does nothing to serve the true purpose of government. The NFL and its owners can afford to foot the entire bill. Why favor certain business over others? If I were to start a company tomorrow I know exactly what would happen. I would immediately have to overcome a bureaucracy that sets business up for failure. The NFL and team owners know that people are psychologically attached to sports. They use this to con the people and local governments.
  14. I don't have the answer. There are plenty of people who are far more intelligent than I who work on this everyday. They haven't been able to find the answers either. I'm simply making observations. The responses of conservatives and liberals are always predictable. I will not take that statement back. My issue is with people on both sides who claim to have the answers. No one has the answers yet. International terrorism is a complicated web. The Saudis are major sponsors of terrorist activities. That doesn't stop western leaders from knelling before these creeps. International conflict and relations are complicated affairs. That is how we have allies such as the Saudis. Nations are forced to choose the lesser of two evils. Allowing open borders certainly isn't the answer, but neither is arbitrarily travel restrictions that don't address the entire Middle East. The entire Middle East is a problem.
  15. True, but what makes us think that we can trust the Saudis background checks? The answer is that we shouldn't. Unless every Islamic nation faces travel restrictions they do very little to guarantee safety. You're right, it ain't much of a ban. That's the problem. Liberals will hate any travel ban, they will whine to no end. Conservatives will be blissful in their naive joy thinking bans on a few nations actual do something. Sadly Americans are so entrenched along party line that no one uses logic anymore.
  16. Too bad neither liberals nor conservatives named Saudi Arabia to any of those lists. The problem is far more complicated than many understand. The world is a tangled web of alliances and interests that often times conflict.
  17. Can't believe she had to run her mouth. I'd rather hear it straight from the horses mouth. Depending how you look at it I guess we did.
  18. I couldn't disagree with this post more. These scumbags are attempting to destroy the very fabric of western society. You seem to marganizlize that fact. These atrocities alter our lives. You mentioned this fact when you discussed tighter security. Basic civil rights and conveniences that civil society affords us are becoming lost due to these losers. That is what these guys want. I disagree that their goal is make us spend money. They want to destroy our way of life. We might not be able to save everyone, but I'd be willing to invest a lot to stop this. I don't understand your comparison to past historical events. It is comparing apples to oranges to me. The Battle of the Somme is not similar to the murder of innocent children attending a concert. The loss of life from terror isn't equal to war, you are correct on that front. However, they are completely seperate issues. The murder of innocent civilians is barbaric third world tradition. It's sad and pathetic that it's been delivered to the west. You are correct that we can't close the world, but maybe we should more closely question what people are doing when they go back to Libya. I used this as an example because the Manchester bomber had just gone to visit Libya. This is nothing like the plague, it's not going to vanish on its own. I also don't understand your rich vs poor viewpoint. Socioeconomic status doesn't prevent anyone from potentially being a victim of these extremists. This affects everyone, and it won't work itself out. That's the problem with travel bans though. To make it more than a horse and pony show you'd actually really need to ban travel from all Islamic nations.
  19. Fitz was never very good at admitting his failures imo.
  20. Actually this style of music is very lucrative and popular. A Led Zeppelin reunion would be the most lucrative and popular tour of the year. It's just not popular when new bands come along and do it. Rock music simply isn't promoted anymore. It's all country and rap these days. The media determine the current tastes of America. They jam whatever they want to push down our throats until we like. I have no doubt that a rock band could still be huge. The media simply chooses not to promote the genre. Trends come and go. Mass media determine those trends, and they have determined that rock is dead. That doesn't always mean there is no market for it if it were packaged correctly.
  21. Sammy just needs to play well. Naturally there are other factors such as QB play, but ultimately he needs to stay healthy. I'm not certain that maturity has much to do with being an elite receiver. Does anyone remember Randy Moss or Terrell Owens? You don't need the same kind of leadership you expect from a QB. Recievers can be immature idiots and still play dominant football.
  22. I can't believe anyone is worried about her when Rex is part of the team. Rex could be paired with Vladimir Putin and I'd be more concerned about Rex.
  23. I think it's cool that they get the chance to play their drums on the field. I'm sure it would be a lot of fun. I don't want to sound like I'm a hater or advocating they be abolished. The drums just don't get me as excited as it does the rest of you guys. Let me know when Keith Moon or John Bonham are on the field. Aside from that, guys with drums don't do much for me.
  24. I can't believe all of you guys who actually find the drums entertaining.
