  1. Yes, but how often does any offense get “five straight accurate calls” given to them? Certainly not in championship games that generally have a let them play mentality.
  2. McDermott’s notes: trade my talented DT to an elite defense with a great football mind as Coughlin in charge.
  3. Yes, these are the games Brady loses. I’d be surprised if they come back.
  4. I’d agree, but the majority of NFL players are not raised by liberal suburban moms. It will take longer for this to affect places like football loving Texas, and inner cities imo. It’s more likely that mothers in places like suburban NY and Massachusetts will ban their kids from playing football. Not the places that provide the stars of the game.
  5. Not as bad imo because the Vikings still had a legitimate long shot to tie the game. They were one big throw away from field goal range. It was just made all the better by Diggs scoring. The Titans only hope was a kickoff return for a touchdown. Something that is even more improbable on the final play.
  6. I’m taking Keenum paired with the Vikings D over Foles. Keenum may not be a perennial all pro, but he had a soild year. Foles can go from playing like a mid level starter to being complete trash. He played a nice game against Atlanta. I’m not confident that he’ll be able to it two weeks in a row. Keenum has been consistently soild for the entire season.
  7. A great portion of Big Ben’s success can be attributed to his insane physical gifts. Those gifts make up for a lack of intelligence. If Roethlisberger were the height of Brees, or had the arm strength of Brady, he would be JAG.
  8. Rightfully so. Those were maniacal draft choices by the Whaley regime.
  9. After the Dennison disaster, any change will be welcomed. McD has done a great job with this franchise, but his conservative gameday coaching concerns me. I think that will need to change for us to become a championship contender. Hopefully Daboll chooses and is allowed to be more aggressive.
  10. You don’t need to have a Ferrari to attempt forth and short, or pass on first down. I can’t see McDermott being an aggressive coach regardless of personnel. It’s not in his DNA.
  11. I’ve never bought into the narrative of BB being a complete failure in Cleveland. His track record in Cleveland didn’t point to a future HOF’er, but he showed some ability. The 1995 season was derailed by the specter of the move to Baltimore. Daboll hasn’t shown anything to be impressed by as an NFL OC. It’s all about how you define the word failure. I won’t call Daboll a failure, but his 32nd ranked KC offense gives me concern. Regardless of what one has to work with, you hope for better than being dead last. Maybe he has become something more than I’m giving him credit for.
  12. I feel the same. The purpose of these discussions are to share our different viewpoints. Both sides can back their statements with facts, and both sides can be easily disputed. There are no right or wrong answers at this point. We all want Daboll to succeed, but we don’t all feel as enthusiastic about the hire.
  13. What did he make out of those three “miserable teams”?
  14. I wish Daboll all the luck in the work. It’s simply a hire that doesn’t excite me. I don’t have “an issue” with Daboll, and it’s not about “style points”. I just have reservations about McD’s extremely conservative game day coaching. We just hired an OC who seems unlikely to deviate from McD’s conservatism. I expect tons of first down runs up the gut from this OC. I hope to be proven wrong. Maybe we find our franchise QB, and all is well.
  15. Yes, but before you can play with a lead, you need to take the lead. Bama usually did so by marching down the field with a series of runs, or the run, run, pass formula. Bama’s playcalling was very predictable, and a lot of people in Bama are happy to see him go. With that said, I separate his Bama accomplishments from his future in the pros. Success at Bama is certainly not a guarantee of success in the pros. Bama football is a different animal than pro football. No NFL team will ever be as superior in talent to the others as Bama is to their opponents. My greater concern is Daboll’s history in the pros. To be fair, as an OC he never had a legitimate QB on his offense. That doesn’t discount the fact that he was an ultra conservative playcaller at his NFL stops. I wish Daboll all the best, and I hope that I am proven wrong. I’m just not convinced he is a progressive minded offensive coach. Hopefully he’s not a guy being brought in he because he fits the McD philosophy of playing not to lose. Kudos to this staff for delivering us from the playoff drought. Lets hope they learn the benefits of aggressive play. Maybe Daboll will prove to be more than I expected. Only time will tell.
  16. Fair point, but I’m considering the entire body of Daboll’s work as both a pro and college coach. It points to him being a conservative play caller.
  17. Great post. The only thing worse than watching the 2017 Bills offense is watching the Bama offense. My concern is the history of Daboll being ultra conservative. Those complaints were heard about him throughout his tenure as an NFL OC. I understand that he never had a QB, but he was not a creative OC. It would be very McDermott like to find the most coach Extremely conservative playcalling seems to be part of “the process”. McDermott appears to be a good game planner, and excellent non gameday coach. He and Beane seem to have a vision of how they want to build a cohesive team. My concern is that McD’s conservatism on gameday will ultimately be his downfall (ala Andy Reid). The Daboll hire seems to play directly into this flaw. Teams who make deep playoff runs are aggressive. I absolutely loved Doug Pederson’s coaching for the Eagles this weekend. We will never see that in Buffalo with McDermott.
  18. That’s one of looking at it, I’m more concerned that he keeps finding his way back to them.
  19. I’ve been one of the “negative ones”, but I’m willing to give him a chance. I was just hoping to see someone with a successful NFL track record brought in. Daboll doesn’t possess that, but I hope to be proven wrong.
  20. Hopefully none from the defensive side considering their NFL track record.
  21. Sadly, I don’t see anyway that the Vikings let him go. We should probably cross him off our list.
  22. No one, I just think that too many people in general have disrespected Keenum’s season. He’s been occasionally used as an example as to why we can win with TT. The reality is that Keenum had a really good season. It might not all show up in stats, but anyone who watched Vikings games would know that Keenum was a big part of their success.
  23. 2017 season Keenum>Tyrod. We joke about what a bum Keenum is because he is an undrafted journeyman QB. This leads to unfair assumptions about him as a QB. The 2017 version of Keenum has been really good. This season he’s been a much better actual QB than TT. Just because the name isn’t Brady or Roethlisberger doesn’t mean a guy can’t have a good season.
