  1. Thanks. This is the point that so many miss. There is barely enough talent to keep the NFL competitive at a high level. A second pro football league will never be filled with enough talent to appeal to casual fans. Only those who are completely obsessed with football will tune in. There simply isn’t the market imo. The appeal of the NFL is based on knowing you are watching the best, and that it’s a major event.
  2. The issue is that it works quite well. These topics are always filled with people complaining about the existence of the post. Yet they get more replies than almost anything else on this forum.
  3. I agree that the guy’s floor seems incredibly low, and scary for a potential franchise QB. I’m also concerned that he doesn’t take criticism well. To be a good pro he’ll need to listen, and take criticism well. Mayfield’s Rose Bowl antics really turned me off. After stating that he had learned from his mistakes, he made another. He walked into the Rose Bowl carrying a sign that read “pretenders”. This was a response to a Lee Corso comment regarding OU in the preseason. Why is he even worried about a commentator’s remark from months ago? He doesn’t seem to learn, and continues to bring controversy to himself. I don’t condemn anyone for making mistakes. I do question their character and intellect when they continue to make the same ones. The NFL isn’t Wrestlemania. How will Mayfield react when his personality is stifled by a pro franchise ?
  4. By “elite measurables” I’d be referring to physical skills and characteristics. Plenty of guys have been able to check off all of those boxes, including the aforementioned Peyton Manning. Obviously none of those things guarantee success, but a six foot tall Big 12 QB frightens me. Some of us will like Mayfield, and others such as myself will maintain reservations. I’m not going to try changing anyone’s mind. It’s just a gut feeling based on tangibles that Mayfield won’t be a great pro.
  5. North Dakota is rooting for the Pats? What in the world did Wentz do to North Dakota?
  6. Fair enough. I just like seeing a QB in a pro style system who has faced more adversity than Mayfield. He did consistently move the ball at will, but he also faced very little pressure. Pro QB’s are often pressured on every play. I worry that Mayfield fits the typical profile of an elite college QB who doesn’t have the same success in the pros. He put up out this world video game type stats. The concern is that he looked spectacular in college, but all of his measurables are not consistent with those of elite NFL QB’s.
  7. I watched him play. I saw a short Big 12 QB who consistently had all the time in the world to throw. I saw a guy who could take his time going through his progressions. He will not be afforded this luxury in the pros. I also saw a kid who did love football, but he also worried far too much about the media and the opponent. College football came easily to Mayfield. I’m sure a lot of hard work went into becoming the type of player he was, but he moved the ball at will in college. Pro football will present new challenges to Mayfield. Struggles are a guarantee, and I’m not sure how he’ll respond to them. I worry that his first real struggles in the pros could be a blow to his ego that he can’t overcome. Additionally, I just don’t think his skill set translates to the pros. Lots of people translate mega college success to mega pro success. It’s just not that simple.
  8. I concluded that he’s a diva based on his constant need to draw attention to himself. This is based on him flipping the bird, grabbing himself, and carrying a sign that read “pretenders” into the Rose Bowl game this year (a swipe at Lee Corso who called OU pretenders). He just doesn’t stop with attention seeking behavior. Right when he has to apologize for one incident, he moves on to the next to prove that he doesn’t learn. He is who he is. This will not change, and no one should try to change him. I just don’t like the thought of my franchise future in his hands. He listens to outside noise (opponents, media) who are often on the receiving end of his taunts. A pro QB needs to worry about his team, and himself only.
  9. Although he was an elite college player, his build frightens me. It makes me question his dedication to fitness, and ultimately what his fitness level will be as he ages. He’s going to have to work harder at staying in shape, or he’ll be a hefty QB in a few years. That wouldn’t bode well for NFL success.
  10. That’s why I dislike this move on Mayfield’s part. He looks bad either way now. It’s just unnecessary stuff that further cements his me first diva reputation.
  11. Whoever falls in love with this guy is making a big mistake imo. A short, pudgy, Big 12 QB with character concerns is the last guy I want leading my franchise.
  12. Wow, that’s all I can say. The Browns are ridiculous. Plus the Steelers D practiced against Haley’s scheme every day, and the Browns play them twice a year.
  13. Eagles engaging in fights up by 31. What a classless bunch. Philly must love this team.
  14. Against the only two elite AFC offenses they were. They are good enough to stop about every other AFC offense.
  15. Pats running out of time. I actually believe that the Jags D is too good to lose this lead.
  16. I still think he’s at TT level, but with the ability to make better quick reads. He has also shown big game clutch ability, something that TT desperately lacks. This stage would be far too big for TT. Can anyone envision him winning in Foxboro or Heinz Field?
  17. TT folds in big games vs Pats, and Brady always finds a way to carve up our D.
