  1. It's the same foolishness this team has demonstrated since the playoff drought begun. We let guys go because "they aren't good enough" only to be forced to replace a need that the team created. The other thing this team does is draft guys at positions where there isn't a need for the sake of "best player available". I don't believe these are things an average team can afford to do. We miss the playoffs every year because this team consistently lacks at certain positions. As far as Listenbee, I don't have a lot of confidence in him ever contributing much, but Whaley liked him so he should consider him part of the equation next season.
  2. You are definitely right about receivers. That's why drafting a guy like Mike Williams would drive me crazy. The Steelers are a consistently successful franchise who never make draft picks to be flashy. We are stuck in a long playoff drought and seem to love making flashy picks. I understand the best player available method, but I like the idea of constructing a cohesive team better. Of course we probably need to find a QB, but let's wisely make the pick when a good prospect falls to us. Until then let's not go crazy drafting receivers. That isn't going to solve our issues on offense either. You can find solid guys in later rounds. When we do draft those guys please stop drafting these project players. We need to pick soild all around receivers. Not just Whaley's speed guys like Goodwin and Listenbee. One dimensional players who excel in college, but struggle in the pros. I learned all I need to know about burning early round picks on receivers from Matt Millen in Detroit.
  3. Sammy is actually open all the time when he plays. It doesn't help TT any. Neither would Gronk or Julio.
  4. I understand that we are thin at WR, but WR draft classes are generally deep. Good talent can be found in the mid rounds. Sammy is supposed to be the elite high round pick who fills the number one WR role. We can find a number two WR a little later. We don't need to be flashy, we could go with o line. Then again picking a first round non skill position guy seems to be very un Bills like. As far as Sammy leaving, that isn't something I'd worry about. In this league you don't have the luxury of drafting out of concern over who might leave in a few years. If they are really valuable they will be resigned anyway. Especially a number one WR like Sammy is supposed to be. I have just picked up on a lot of trends during our years of futility such as: Reaching for QB's, Drafting too many corners in high rounds, too many RB's and high round receivers while mostly ignoring the trenches. We also don't have anyone to throw to Mike Williams anyway.
  5. I see it as being a real possibility. It would be a very "Billsy" pick meant to generate fan excitement and sell tickets rather than to build a team. We've seen it time and time again through the years.
  6. So if I understand your posts you believe that Russ had made "some bad decisions" , yet we should keep him around because of stuff he achieved back in the Nineties ?
  7. Sometimes I think we could have Drew Brees and still couldn't win with Rexy's defense. Much like Rob's former team, the Saints.
  8. I've seen the same thing. The first weekend of football season I was in the Syracuse area. I didn't even see any Bills beer cans at any store. The Bills games sell out themselves. Rusty stepped in at a perfect time when the NFL was becoming bigger than ever before. People just want to see NFL football, and more people in Rochester and of course Buffalo started buying more season tickets. We don't have the same entertainment options on a Sunday as someone in Atlanta or LA might have. There are also tons of fans of other teams. I'm sure Steelers fans will be out in force this Sunday. Exactly, if nothing else keeping him around is bad karma.
  9. I don't care for Rex as a coach. He's a poor leader who claims to be a defense coach for a team with a bad defense. As far as developing QBs that's always been one knock on him I don't understand. What has he ever had to work with at that position?
  10. I saw David Nelson on the NFL Network the other day. He seemed open to playing if only someone wanted him. Let's get the band back together!
  11. I have a question for the Fitz people. Are we bringing back Chan too? Fitz has proven he's even worse without Chan. Check out his years in Houston and Tennessee.
  12. I really hope we don't waste first or second round draft picks on corners. Sherman and Chris Harris Jr are 5th round and undrafted player's respectively. Corner is almost impossible to play in the NFL. That makes it a very difficult position to predict success at the next level. It seems like we've been drafting corners in the early rounds consistently since this playoff drought has begun. Decisions like this are responsible for the playoff drought. That being said, I wouldn't spend the cash to resign Gilmore. I would count on Darby to be back and draft some DB's in the latter rounds. I'm also not opposed to looking in free agency. I agree that it will become an area of need, but I hope Rex doesn't go crazy trying to find his Revis. If Rex is even around.
  13. I'm with this. Although Darby was out last Sunday our corners are first and second draft picks. How are we going to do much better at that position? We could definitely upgrade at safety, but I'm not sure what to do about the corner position. We could keep spending early round draft picks on the position, or try to work with what we have. Everyone knows that this is a passing league. The rules are meant to make life very difficult on defensive backs. The odds of finding a true shutdown corner are very low. So low that in my opinion it makes corner a position that isn't worth drafting high. Think about last years Broncos defense, and the Giants defense that beat the Pats* in two Super Bowls. They pressured the QB. Von Miller and Khalil Mack are one men wrecking crews. We don't have that, and so far Lawson has disappointed. Rex needs to scheme better in the back end, and find ways to dial up pressure. He does neither.
  14. Funny how Jets fans think they have it so bad. At least Rex took them places during two seasons. More recently than anything we've done.
  15. I don't think the Bills have ruined the careers of any post Kelly QB's, but I do think that those QB's have ruined many teammates careers.
  16. Alex Smith would be awful here. He's a complimentary type of player who needs the perfect team around him. If Rex had the type of defense he claimed he'd have then a guy like Smith would be perfect. Smith wouldn't win many games here with Rex and Rob's keep em under 40 points defense. I'm not a fan of any backup QB's either. Not many backups have gone on to successful NFL careers. Far more have signed big contracts only to disappoint. Most franchise QBs are found in the draft. Let's try to get that method right for once.
  17. I will. Learn to draft well, and create a winning environment that competes for titles. NFL teams are built from the draft, not free agency. Free agents are usually just pieces to building a winning team rather than being the foundation. We could acquire those pieces much cheaper if we were a soild franchise. You don't need to overlay for roles players like Clay. Guys like him are just part of the puzzle. We shouldn't overpay and wouldn't need to if we built a good foundation.
  18. They both need to go if they're both that stupid.
  19. Not acceptable when this entire team was built to suit Rex. We trade for an elite RB (ball control offense) and have drafted defense like it's going out of style. This team isn't built to have an explosive offense, and we know the QB position is questionable. We hired Rex to have a dominant defensive. What we've gotten is a defense that a guy off the street could create.
  20. I wish this whole team had a birth they could have attended today.
  21. I know Mike Francesa isn't well loved but he said it best earlier this season with something along the lines of "Haven't we seen Rob Ryan screaming with his hair in his face after the opposition scores with multiple teams for the last ten years". That's sums it up for me. We run a ball control offense for a defensive coach who can't coach defense.
