  1. I agree. I can't stand Marrone but he's in a situation where he is now surrounded with good football people. I don't think that he will do much better than .500 until Bortles gets it together though.
  2. Yes, but we have no idea to what extent he is a "drugie". Manziel parents are interesting characters who are a big part of his problem. Some people call their kid a "drugie" once they hear their kid did some drugs. Nothing more classless than airing your sons dirty laundry to ESPN. The Dbag apple doesn't fall far from the tree. This ^ Even without drugs and alcohol in the mix his game will never translate to the pros.
  3. The definition of alcoholic is very subjective. Is he an alcoholic? Or does he just have no sense? Only he truly knows that. In many ways he just seems like your typical frat boy. The problem is you can't be a frat boy and NFL QB at the same time.
  4. It's easy for him to show humility and admit to his mistakes now that the bitterness has likely subsided. He was bitter that he left a head coaching job. Now that he has the same position he shows humility. It's easy to admit your mistakes when you have what you want. It's far more difficult to admit to ones past mistakes when you aren't currently in the position you want to be. True character is shown in the most difficult moments. This does nothing for me as far as lessening Marrones image as an ego maniac. Exactly. It's not like he admitted to his mistakes promptly.
  5. He's done nothing that appear to indicate change either. It might also be different had he actually shown something on the field. What we did see out of him made it look like his game didn't translate well to the NFL. I'm sure that his off field issues and lack of work ethic impacted his play on the field. However, he didn't even really show any flashes of brilliance.
  6. This ^ He is basically more interested in being a male Kardashian or something. I'm also not even convinced that he's actually "addict". He seems more like a young rich party guy who possibly uses this term an excuse for his behavior. Only he can really know that, so I'm not really reaching any conclusions. I'm just saying that everything about the guy seems phoney. He says he wants to play football but has never done anything to show that to be the case. He hasn't matured a bit since he was drafted. There is nothing he has done that should make any team ready to give him a second chance.
  7. DeMarco Murray running behind that Cowboys line also says hi. Zeke is an incredible talent, but you just don't get as much from it as you would another position. Running backs have such a short shelf life, and the difference in production often depends upon oline play more than the talent of the back. I would personally never draft a back in the first round these days. With that said, Shady's season was incredible. He did more with less to work with than any other back. It was far more impressive than Zeke imo. I'm not saying Zeke isn't talented, but he was given a lot to work with.
  8. People do see what they want to see. That's the beauty of evaluating prospects. I see a guy who played on a team with athletes who were a mismatch against every oppenent they faced. Clemson had too much speed for opposing defenses to stop them. Mike Williams was an absolute beast who was unstoppable. This gave Watson far more room for error than he'll get in the pros. Once he's in the NFL issues such as ball placements and deep ball accuracy will begin to negatively affect him. All of these subtle issues were hidden at Clemson because the team was vastly superior to their opponents. This is of course just how I see it. I believe that the NFL lacks good QB's so badly that we are even seeing the scouts overlook major flaws far more often. In the past I don't believe a guy like Watson (or any other 2017 draft QB) would have been viewed as a top 10 pick. Necessity has been creating desperation in recent drafts.
  9. I agree. When you analyze a guy coming out of college you have to look at his style of play. It's more important to look at things like footwork, accuracy, ability to a defense, and other similar abilities than it is to solely look at how successful their college team was. I think that far too many peopleare caught up in the incredible success that Clemson had. This causes them to overlook Watson's major flaws. I can't stand it when people talk about the national championship game performance. That means nothing as far as Watson being a successful pro. Just look at a list of national championship winning QB's.
  10. This topic needs moved over to the politics forum. It would fit in well because it didn't take long for it to be overran with stupidity.
  11. Leadership is ONE of the most qualities important qualities you need in a QB. That doesn't mean that it can be the only quality. Just because a guy is a strong leader doesn't mean he will succeed in the NFL. Leadership doesn't matter if the guy can't produce on the field. Accuracy and ball security are just as important traits in a QB. Without these the QB can't succeed. This nullifies any leadership abilities. Brady is the potential goat because he is a great leader who also has one of the all time greatest abilities to process the game. Take that ability away and he is nothing. Watson might be a natural leader, but that does nothing to erase my concerns about accuracy, ball security, and the ability to play from the pocket.
  12. I don't have much confidence in Watson becoming a good NFL QB. That doesn't mean I will be correct. No one will know until we see him play. Your opinion is no less valid than mine. With that said, I don't know if success against Bama is really some sort of guarantee that a QB will be great in the NFL. Johnny Manziel,Cardale Jones, and Chad Kelly were all great against Bama as well.
  13. Probably, this franchise seems to be obsessed with Clemson and Ohio State. It has yet to do us any good.
  14. I agree. You have to keep drafting QB's. I just don't like any of them enough this year to do so with a first round pick.
  15. I'm with you. I don't know if the comparison of Watson to Losman and Manuel is fair though. Losman and Manuel were both guys who anyone who knew about much about football would have said they weren't going to amount to much. Neither one of those guys showed much of anything in college to indicate they had the ability to be franchise QB in the pros. Watson has done a lot in college. This is why so many people on this forum love him. The scouts are split on their opinion on Watson. Not too many experts had Losman or Manuel as first round picks, until the Bills reached for them. With that said, I'm not a Watson fan at all. I think drafting him would set us back another 5 years.
  16. These type of receivers are great in dangerous offenses with elite QB's. When they aren't in that situation they are JAG.
  17. If the Jets draft him his career is over before it begins.
  18. I like the idea of Mahomes if he's available in the second round. I don't like any of the first round QB's enough to take that much of a risk. However, the fact that he was in that many shoot outs is actually one thing that concerns me about him. No one in the Big 12 plays defense whatsoever. Playing QB in the Big 12 is more like being a point guard in basketball. They distribute the ball, and guys make plays from there. It really isn't fair to hold this against Mahomes but the recent history of Big 12 QB's as pros isn't very good. The Big 12 is about as far away from the pro style of football as one can get. I could easily make the argument that Wentz who wasn't even a D1 player was far better prepared coming out of college.
  19. Sign him up. He went to Harvard. People always seem to find Harvard to be interesting around here.
  20. Matt Ryan had already proven a lot more than EJ Manuel did at the time each team went all in on a reciever. Whaley had no idea at the time if EJ would pan out to be a successful QB. The team wasn't one player away from a title. The Falcons thought they were one player away from competing for championships. In that situation you can afford to lose draft picks.
  21. The Falcons had Matt Ryan before they went all in on Jones. This makes that pick far more sensible than the Sammy one.
  22. Too many people seem to think that all crimes are valid, they are not. Innocent people get in trouble in trouble everyday. You give good examples of scary incidents. There are too many he said she said things these days. However, if the authorities aren't hacks there are set procedures for investigating a rape. This woman did what she was supposed to do by going to the hospital afterward. The victim in the alleged Olsen incident was left with bruises and marks that would seem to confirm her story.
  23. Yes. Same thing will happen, he'll get out it. Don't think for one minute these young men don't already always know that in the back of their minds.
