  1. A third round pick actually seeems a little steep to pay for Foles. If Foles is worth a third than TT should be worth a first.
  2. Yes, the whole one year starter thing with the QB formerly know as Mitch worries me too. I'm concerned that scouts and fans so desperately want a pocket passer that they are looking at the wrong guy. College offenses don't prepare QB's to play in the pros. There are very few guys who come out of college already established as pro style QB's. My concern is that when people actually see the rare pro style QB coming out of college they overvalue them. I'm one of the biggest proponents in the world for drafting pro style pocket passers. The problem is that they aren't all going to be great pros. Twenty years ago pro style QB's had more competition coming out of college. Now they are fewer in numbers. I think that this causes their value to become unjustly inflated at times.
  3. This is what would make it difficult for me to not demand a first for TT. Recently teams have been willing to pay unreasonable prices for QB's. Why can't we rip someone off?
  4. Well said. I also really worry that Trubisky is the ultimate fools gold. Pocket passers in college are so few that NFL teams tend to over value anyone who is a pocket passer. The guy played one year in college. He has all measurable that scouts want, but we really haven't a clue what he's all about.
  5. You make valid points. I'm just expressing a gut feeling that isn't remotely backed by any scientific fact. I think a lot of guys had "it"in college but the pros are another story. The pros require a different kind of "it" factor. Great college players don't always translate to the pros and average college players can become great pros. We shall see. That's what I love about this time of year. I give Watson a chance at being a decent starter for a few years. I don't see him as a long term championship winning QB. The QB formerly known as Mitch is someone I worry about being a bust.
  6. I'd still want better. QB's are at such a premium in this league that you can force a team to pay. The Pats* constantly trade non QB's and still load up with first round picks. Someone would be desperate enough to give a first for a QB. Look how much Osweiler got paid.
  7. I wouldn't trade even a mediocre starting QB away for anything less than a first round pick.
  8. I feel the same as you regarding the vibes given out by both Trubisky and Watson. I just can't see either one of them on the podium at a Super Bowl. The way a guy carries himself really says a lot about their future as a QB imo. All of the greats have had a certain sense of arrogance to their personality. Great QB's are all very self assured people. The minute you hear them talk you get the feeling that they believe the world belongs to them. I don't get that from Watson or Trubisky. Trubisky really lost me with the demand that he now be referred to as "Mitchell" as well. It's not a big deal but it just seems like a silly time to do this as a potential first round QB.
  9. We are definitely mostly on the same page. The only difference is that I view CB and WR as having equal value with WR maybe having slightly more. My concern is that I think it would be wise to plan for life without Sammy. If Sammy goes down we have nothing for a number one WR. Beyond this season it is also hard to predict what will happen with Sammy. I think we can succeed better as a team piecing together a secondary than we can by playing without a number one WR. We can still draft a CB, but no need to do so early imo. With that said I'm also always more comfortable getting value out of first round picks with positions such as linemen.
  10. How many of those great 1st round CB's actually make their teams great though? Plus guys like Josh Norman and Richard Sherman are both fifth round picks. You are never going to get two shutdown corners. With just one shutdown corner the opponent always has the ability to take them out of the game. Winning defense starts with the big guys up front, and the ability to stop the run. Secondary play comes next. The rules forbide corners from actually playing football anyway. I just believe that first round corners are a waste for a team like the Bills with so many holes.
  11. I would generally agree, but our reciever corps is a mess. We desperately need a number two receiver. We have no idea how much we can rely on Sammy either. I have become a firm believer in the necessity of an insurance policy for Sammy. I agree that a position like O line is safer and generally more guaranteed to be an impactful position, but it's not like we don't have holes everywhere. CB is a position that I actually don't like to draft high. How many true shut down corners are there? The NFL is designed for CB's to fail. Why waste a first round pick on a guy who is set up to fail? I don't see CB's as being a great value in the first round. We will never stop Brady without pressure. Even having a great CB isn't going to stop elite offense's in today's NFL. They will just look in another direction. The way teams spread out the field is another factor in my dislike of overvaluing CB's. I don't think a WR would be a bad value this year. I wouldn't mind drafting O line, but would much prefer a WR over a CB.
  12. So where would the money go? Are you going to buy a billboard? or just buy beer to bury our misery when Whaley sticks around another few years? No front office can see the future. You are correct on that front. The difference is that we have needed a QB for what seems like an eternity now. It's one thing to not draft Brady. He was a random fifth round selection after all. It's another to constantly avoid taking a QB in the second or third round when you aren't set at the position.
  13. I agree, and from looking at the list of players with the fastest 40's ever at the combine it shows that it doesn't mean much. Bad times are a potential disqualifying factor. Great times don't mean so much. You still have to base your evaluation on how you see the complete player.
  14. Am I only the only one who finds it kind of dbaggy that Trubisky suddenly wants to be called Mitchell? Just seems like a random attention grab. Who does he think he is, Prince?
  15. Yes I'm very anxious to see these guys throw. I couldn't care less about 40 times and broad jumps with QB's.
  16. So the NFL sends guys to the hospital? They can't afford to have doctors come to the combine?
  17. Typically I would agree with your thoughts. Part of our issue over the years has been the constant drafting of the same positions over and over. You can't build a quality franchise by using first round picks in the same spot in years close together. This may be different thought. We have absolutely no depth at the WR position. We definitely need a number two receiver at the least. The other problem is that Sammy hasn't been able to stay on the field. We have no idea how often he is going to be on the field in the future. There is no telling that his injury issues won't be career altering. I don't think it is unreasonable to draft a first round WR to have insurance for life without Sammy. Ultimately we need to draft a WR this year regardless. I wouldn't have a problem with it being in the first round.
  18. Well said. I'll always remember Saban whining about up tempo offenses being the demise of football. If I remember correctly he went as far as saying that they should be outlawed. Saban's defense simply can't deal with a speed filled uptempo offense. Alabama spends their season playing conference games against subpar QB's running slow paced run based offenses. Watson and Clemson were just a bad matchup for Alabama. Clemson is a mismatch against many other college opponents for the same reason. Watson will not have this advantage in the NFL.
  19. There are so many games each season in baseball, basketball, and hockey that it makes it easier to tank. No matter how bad one tries to be you might not be the worst team. If Darnold is the first overall pick there is no guarantee we'll necessarily get the first pick. If you "accidentally" win a few games in the NFL you can easily fall out of the first position. In other sports a few accidental wins won't hurt much. Football is unique from the other major sports. Tanking doesn't make sense.
  20. The Browns have been tanking for 20 years. It just shows how much tanking actually helps a franchise.
  21. Yes it is. I simply saw nothing from him when he was on the field that indicated he can succeed in the NFL. You made the point that Manziel wasn't the first hard partying QB. You are absolutely correct. So why did he fail in the pros? I think it's because he's not good enough. More dedication to the game would help as well, but his sandlot style from college doesn't translate to the pros.
  22. They also had something Manziel doesn't. The tools to be a successful NFL QB.
  23. BB would go insane with his unrealible hands as well. Marshall is a very "unpatriot" like player. Their offense depends on guys being dependable, if not spectacular. Marshall has tons of talent, but he's isn't consistent.
  24. It's scary to see it like that, but they are definitely all needs. It's hard to build depth and not have gaping holes in the roster when you only have one or two guys from each of the past several drafts remaining on the team. Whaley really needs to step up this year. We have all these holes because in all reality our lastfew drafts have been pathetic.
  25. We do, but doesn't it seem like we have been drafting CB's here in Buffalo with our first round pick for the last 17 years? We always let CB's go because we are unwilling to overpay. Then we are left in a situation where we are filling holes that we have created ourselves. It's hard to build a team when you are constantly refilling the same holes every few years.
