Marrone didn't even want Sammy and stormed out after the trade. I doubt Whaley would've given him the chance to veto a nobrainer trade. It would've made their relationship even more strained than it already was, however. And as bullheaded as Marrone could be he would've been wrong about not getting Shady. IMO.

I'm not sure why we think Shady wouldn't end up here. We got contacted about the trade and I doubt Marrone was married to Kiko. Whaley had already shown to disregard his HC when it came to acquiring playmakers. The only question mark would've been QB. TT may have still been signed. TT + Shady + 2014 defense would've meant playoffs. IMO.

That's more than Rex Ryan could do. His offense had very little talent. No Incognito, no Shady, no run game, EJ under center for 4 games. Winning 9 games in a season EJ played 4 is an absolute miracle. Fun fact, Marrone was the only Bills coach that EJ won a game playing for.

Lost in this shuffle is how well the GS organization played everything. They rightly have no interest in playing fair, their job is to put out the most competitive team possible. Every team in the NBA wished they had the cap to sign Durant last year. GS managed to have the room, and have the rest of the team around them to be truly dominant. It's like in the NFL when Denver had a great offense and defense and managed to continue signing elite players and adding pieces to win a ring. Gotta respect that level of GMing.

Orton was a better QB. Like I said, history repeats. QB shows promise, folks fall in love. QB stumbles, some fans start thinking he may not be the one. These fans face constant attacks about how they are biased and haters and are rooting against the QB. 1 year later, QB is no longer the starting QB.

The downside of drafting a very young player is that they get to sign 2 major huge long term contracts instead of one.

John, he was a 5 time All-Pro. For your frame of reference, Mario Williams was only a 3 time All-Pro. Trying to make this about TT's ProBowls is a losing proposition at best.
