  1. I gave him credit for Hughes and Brown and Spikes. They were solid pieces added to a stacked roster. Good job for him. That doesn't make him the grand architect of the 2014 defense.
  2. In the first, perhaps, but not, IMO in the top 2. Think about what had to happen for the Titans and Browns to trade down. Titans already felt like they had the QB of the future on the roster. The Browns are run by idiots. Now do the Browns trade out of #1 again this year? I doubt it, Haslam will make them take a QB. That makes #2 the target. And we have to beat offers from other teams, as well as hope we have a team willing to dance with us. Lots of moving parts. Agreed.
  3. Why would I give a GM credit for things he did before he was the GM? Dennison was a decent QB coach in Baltimore. How does that affect him today as the OC of the Bills? Is he doing a better job as OC because of his contributions as a QB coach years ago?
  4. The obvious problem with trading up is you need a trade partner. No guarantee.
  5. Sure, but mine is right. Line up the 2014 defense Nix additions versus the Whaley additions and every GM in the NFL takes the Nix guys. I don't believe that debateable. You're welcome to disagree, but you'd be wrong.
  6. I know but I think there are several teams who bottomed out and got a non-QB talent infusion and that worked out as well. I still contend it worked for the Colts. It would've worked for a team like the moronic Browns if they actually drafted Wentz. If you're going to talk about trading up for a QB versus tanking to get one, you have to include RG3 and his ilk in the discussion.
  7. No. It's not. Brown and Spikes weren't as important as All-Pros Dareus and Mario. I'm sorry. The talent brought on by Nix was and is way way way better. Alonso didn't even play in 2014! Bradham was drafted in 2012! Are you trolling me? Most Bills fans will say the players drafted when Nix was the GM were Nix's and the players drafted when Whaley was the GM were Whaley's. Sad, but true.
  8. A bloated salary cap! Oh no! Certainly the death knell of any organization. Just ask the Saints! Titans are 7-3 this year when Mariota plays homie. But good call! I'm not talking about the Texans in 2016. Hang in there. See above in KC. Stafford was the most clutch QB in the NFL last year and made the postseason several times. I want to win a Superbowl as much as anyone else, but you can't be a contender if you don't make it to the dance. Remember you argued players on IR are more valuable than players not on the roster? Probably the silliest take I've heard in weeks.
  9. Jax picking high built the team that is carrying them right now to a probable postseason. They are probably the most talented team in the league, position by position. They got unlucky at QB but are a Cousins or Eli from a 12-4 SB run. Titans went from worst in the league to 9-7. Texans tanked back in 2013, Watt was healthy all year. They got Clowney, who has come into his own as a dominant pass rusher and several other good players. Between 2010 and 2013, KC drafted: Eric Berry #5 Justin Houston Dontari Poe Travis Kelce Some REALLY good players who contributed a lot to their playoff years. Colts got unlucky. They did it right and it almost worked. Sometimes you get screwed. It happens.
  10. Jax turned it around by tanking. So did the Titans. The Texans tanked one year and turned it around to being a good team. KC was a basement dweller and turned it into yearly postseason contenders Panthers got Cam. Colts got Luck (recent struggles with health notwithstanding) Lions got Stafford. All in the last 10 years.
  11. No he wouldn't. Jim Schwartz has Nix to thank for 2014. Whaley was a footnote.
  12. The issue is the defense sucked once we got Whale's guys on the roster. You could make a better argument that he destroyed a defense rather than built one.
  13. And we've certainly seen how good the Doug Whaley defense of Hughes, Brown, Shaq, Ragland, Adolphus truly was. Doubling down on EJ after his nothing special rookie year was silly.
  14. I agree. Some folks think we can win now and win later. I don't think we'll accomplish either.
  15. Better for what? To scrape out some games to 8-8 this year? Probably not. To find the QB of the future while losing on our way to a top pick? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.
  16. All bad picks weren't REALLY the GM's picks. Probably not. Dareus, Mario, Gilmore, Bradham, Leo, Kyle, Searcy, AW. All here before Whaley took the reins. I guess he got Hughes, Brown and Graham, along with Duke Williams and Rambo. Instrumental is a stretch.
  17. Last time I checked, you can only play 1 LT at a time. Although we could run some Heavy formations and really get the most out of Dawkins and Glenn.
  18. Folks like to say this but it's not really true. He sure as hell didn't evaluate the "talent" of Shaq, Ragland, Adolphus, Kujo etc etc etc very well at all. Doug Whaley never drafted a player selected to a Pro Bowl. He went 0 fer. In 4 drafts. That's terrible.
  19. Teams were gameplanning for Sammy when he was on IR just in case he ran on the field mid game.
  20. Is Doug contractually obligated to cuddle with you after?
