I’d like to see proof of that please. Oh really? So teams don’t gameplan against John Brown? He was the leading AFC reciever for 3/4ths of the year and they just don’t bring him up in the film room? They just talk about Josh, and when the DB coach is like “what about his receivers?” they laugh and all go get ice cream instead? Teams gameplan against everybody. Yes, teams worry more about Deandre Hopkins than they do against John Brown. I’d like another weapon or two on offense myself. But John Brown is a player teams account for.

That’s still a leap. 5 losses one score or less. Seeing as Josh had 461 attempts, and threw TD’s at a 4.3% rate, that means that 20 of those attempts ended in TD’s. So out of those 7 drops, you’d “bank” that one of those 7 would have resulted in a score? The math doesn’t hold up. It’s not even close really. Even if you’d argue they’d extend a drive and possibly lead to a score (again, not likely), the math works against you. Bad throws don’t factor into drops? I’d like to hear how you came up with that assertion. If a ball is thrown behind or low or high to a target, and he gets hands on it but doesn’t reel it in, you’re sure it doesn’t count as a drop? Yes Allen improved over dead last. That’s nice. I care about on target percentage. Because that factor doesn’t get altered by drops, which you LOVE to point to. It’s a pure accuracy number. Allen is 21st. He is in the bottom half of the league in accuracy. That’s not good. I don’t care about completion percentage, I care about accuracy.

If you’re going to say that Josh scares defenses, then so do his weapons. John Brown was the 21st reciever in the NFL. He has deep speed and can burn over the top. Singletary was fifth in the NFL in YPA, and 24th in rushing yards, in 8 starts. He had nearly as many yards as Alvin Kamari and Leveon Bell rushing. We have none? Oh come on. If we had none then what did we have in 2018? Negative weapons? Let’s play in reality. Josh HAS weapons. John Brown is a top 20ish WR in the NFL. He isn’t throwing to Kelvin Benjamin and Zay Jones anymore. That stuff doesn’t hold water.

Our QB didn’t scare opponents much either. I get it. We need more offensive weapons. I don’t disagree. But even good offensive weapons and a good OC and a good OL don’t hide a deficient QB forever. Your QB has to get better too. Allen, John Brown and Beasley had career years, that says something about the OC as well. Having great weapons would be great and would make this offense look better. Having a great OC would be great and would make this offense look better. Having a great QB would be great and would make this offense look better. But out of those three, the one with the biggest impact is QB. If you could choose between prime Andy Reid, prime Deandre Hopkins and prime Peyton Manning, you’d take Manning. Everyone would. Josh is our guy now and he’s our guy going forward but for sustained success we need a great QB. Andy Reid has had bad offenses. Deandre Hopkins has had bad offenses. Peyton Manning never did. I hope Josh gets on that level one day.

Josh Allen vs. Russel Wilson Year 2

Yes, you agree it’s a dumb comment. All good and bad QB’s want to get better. “All Josh Allen needs to do is be a better QB” is a silly comment. -

Every bad QB in the NFL needs to improve their accuracy, mechanics and decision making. Saying that’s “all” Josh Allen needs to do is silly because that’s all Josh Rosen needs to do too. It’s also what Winston needs to do. It’s also what Duck Hodges needs to do. It’s also what Mason Rudolph needs to do. It’s also what Lamar Jackson needs to do. It’s also what Marcus Mariota needs to do. It’s also what Tom Savage needs to do. It’s also what Geno Smith needs to do. It’s also what EJ Manuel needs to do. It’s also what’s Brad Sorenson needs to do. It’s also what Brett Rypien needs to do. It’s also what Brandon Allen needs to do. It’s also what Kyle Allen needs to do. It’s also what Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to do. It’s also what Matt Barkley needs to do. It’s also what Nick Mullens needs to do. Get it? -
Josh Allen vs. Russel Wilson Year 2

If we named the QB’s who did, we’d be naming every bum in the NFL. Which is why it’s a silly comment. -
Yes Joe, you are truly the epitome of the “Man in the Arena” with your bad hot takes.

Josh Allen vs. Russel Wilson Year 2

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? -
So many leaps here. 7 more catches over the course of 6 losses equals “conservatively” 1 or 2 more wins? 65.5% sounds pretty until you pair it with the context of the rest of the NFL. Josh had 3 more drops than Jimmy G and Jimmy G is in the Super Bowl. But Josh had 24 more bad throws than Jimmy G. Maybe that’s contributing to the drop rate a tiny bit? Josh Allen is 21st in the NFL for on target throw percentage. Calling him the 21st most accurate QB sounds about right. If he gets up to 16 or higher next year, that would be great. And we can talk OL, but Josh was the 5th most blitzed QB in the NFL, but the 21st most hurried QB in the NFL last year. In summary, drops suck. I want less of them. But pointing at them like this great big offensive flaw just does not hold up to scrutiny.

Josh Allen vs. Russel Wilson Year 2

Russell Wilson won the Super Bowl his second year. The Wilson - Allen comparison after year two is absurd. Wilson was more efficient in almost every category. Allen improved his second year. A lot QB’s who aren’t outright busts do. But that doesn’t make them franchise QB’s. He needs to continue to improve to be the guy. I think he will. -
Will we pay Poyer or won't we?

I don’t follow. McD said he scouted Hyde as DC, and then when he due to become an FA, he scouted him more and then went after him. Whaley was involved as GM in name only I suppose. But seeing as the man and his entire scouting group was shown the door immediately after the offseason, I doubt McD gave their independent scouting opinions much credence. There’s a reason a lot of our targets in the 2017 draft were also targets on Carolina’s board reportedly, and it wasn’t because Doug Whaley knew Carolina liked Dawkins, you know? -

I don’t think he scouted one pending FA player as DC. Probably had multiple on his radar. -

McDermott said he scouted Micah Hyde while DC of the Panthers. -
You have to consistently dominate to be a top 45 receiver in the NFL? Boy, there are like 10 teams with a single WR on their roster who are qualified to be a good #2. What’s your criteria for a good number one? Jerry Rice clone?

I just don’t think Josh gets it any worse than those dudes. In fact, I think he gets it easier, mostly because he HAS already proven more. Couple that with the fact that Josh was an absolutely polarizing prospect, with draft grades all over the place, and the current climate makes a ton of sense. Case in point, @GunnerBill and @thebandit27 both put out STELLAR pre draft QB analyses, for the last few years at least. Both dudes’ are universally credible, have excellent football acumen and are as unbiased as you can get on this board. GB had a 3rd round grade on Allen and bandito had an early 1st on him. GB commenting that he has “natural inaccuracy” and bandit said he didn’t see that at all. Player analysis is subjective and imperfect. Calling any and all analysis of Josh Allen, pre- and post-draft “lazy and superficial” just flies in the face reality. Are there some guys who saw a big goofy kid throw off his back foot once in Wyoming and said he was gonna suck? Sure. Are there documented examples of rational takes of Josh Allen’s flaws based on decent evidence and analysis as a college QB and as an NFL starter? You betcha.

Man I wish you were here for TT, EJ, Fitz, Trent etc etc. Every Bills QB who hasn’t proven to be great yet is scrutinized. It’s the nature of the position.

Because you sound upset! Mahomes is a superstar. He get praised a lot because he’s awesome. He won an MVP because he’s awesome. He’s winning this game because he’s awesome. Enjoy the game.
-
Yeah, “he got a bust in Canton before proving himself” is certainly an unbiased take. Sorry Mahomes continues to dominate. I’d like to start smoking undisciplined defenses. And beating Cover 0. That would be fun. The reason I posted what I did with all the quotes is because most people were using this game to slam Mahomes and compare him to Allen, until Mahomes dunked all over them. I still like Allen a lot. ?
