Aaron Rodgers to the Titans ?? [Titans say "No"]
msw2112 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall
A good friend of mine who is very successful/wealthy moved to Nashville last year and bought a huge house there. He did so just before selling a business for a large chunk of change. I don't know the specifics of the tax situation there, but I think it's a lot more favorable for the wealthy than many other places. That could be a reason Rodgers wants to establish a residence there (and many other former NFL players, as mentioned above). In addition to the tax situation, it also seems to generally be a hot market for people to move to these days. It's too humid for my tastes, but a lot of people like the weather, the real estate is plentiful and reasonable compared to other big market cities, and there's a lot to do there. This board always rates it highly as one of top away game destinations. Back to the original post, I don't think Rodgers is going to the Titans - I think that he's acquiring real estate there for the other reasons I mentioned. -
Thursday night games to cost Amazon Prime customers more
msw2112 replied to notwoz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm sure there will be some kind off offering there - for an additional fee.... Me living out West and my sports teams all being in the East is one of the reasons I have stuck with a more "conventional" TV service and not gone to streaming. I know that many streaming services are starting to offer cloud DVR services now, but I don't know what/how this will work with Amazon and TNF. I wouldn't pay an extra fee to Amazon just to be able to record 1 game per week. -
Thursday night games to cost Amazon Prime customers more
msw2112 replied to notwoz's topic in The Stadium Wall
My wife orders packages almost daily through Amazon Prime, so there's no chance we'll be canceling. I have a couple of Fire sticks on older TVs and the app installed on one of my newer ones, so I won't miss any of the NFL Thursday games. I have not used Prime for any live content to date, so I wonder how it will work in terms of the broadcasts. I live in the West, so I often am not home from work by the time the games start. In the past, I would often record from Fox or NFL Network to my DVR and watch later. I don't subscribe to or own any Amazon DVR product. Will I be able to simply start the games from the beginning when I want to watch the stream (and then pause and resume as I like) or will I only be able to watch live? Does anyone know how it works/will work? In the past, when the games were available on Prime, it was just easier to watch on Fox or NFL Network, so I never tried the Amazon stream. -
A few folks have mentioned Andy Dalton. I like Andy - he's an experienced guy with lots of starting experience and previously got the Bengals to the playoffs many times. He even got the Bills into the playoffs one year! He also seems to be a classy guy who would fit with the team culture and be a good mentor. That said, has anyone watched him play in the last couple of years (Dallas and Chicago)? Unfortunately, I think his tank is empty. I'd prefer Fitz, who is also nearing the end of the line, but seems to have a little bit left in the tank. And if we can get one of the younger, more athetic guys (who can run a lot of what Allen does, albeit not as well as Allen) like Mitch or Mariota, that would likely be the best scenario.
-
I'd go with the following: 1) Trubisky 2) Mariota 3) Fitzpatrick 4) Darnold I "like" Fitz the best in terms of cultural fit, but he's up there in years and has the physical limtations that we all know about. Mitch and Mariota are kind of like "a poor man's" Josh Allen - same type of skill set, just not as good. Finally, I think that Darnold is good enough to win a game or two if Josh went down. If Josh went down with a season ending injury, Darnold isn't going to get the job done, but then, none of these other guys are likely to do it either. Mitch would have the best chance. Brissette would also be adequate and Minshew, who someone mentioned above, would be a good backup too, but he wasn't an option.
-
Munchak would be a fantastic hire. As others have mentioned, Cable and Callahan are very good, experienced OL coaches, both of whom - and maybe all 3 - have been NFL head coaches at some point. I'd love for the Bills to get their hands on one of them. I particularly like Munchak due to his flexibilty in philosophy (which I learned about 2 minutes ago in this thread) and his repuation as a great player in the league (which I have known for years). Given the deep pockets owners, the stable coaching and GM situation, the 4 out of 5 years in the playoffs (winning playoff games in consecutive years) and, oh yeah, a franchise QB with MVP and HOF ability, I think the Bills are a sought-after desination for coaches in general. We also have some pieces on the OL, with Dawkins and Brown as anchors, Bates as a solid contributor, guys like Williams, Morse, and Feliciano who are veterans with lots of starting experience and some good seasons under their belts, and even Cody Ford, a "developmental prospect" that a good OL coach might see as a project/challenge.
-
Given Allen's status as an unquestioned star and starter, Fitz could come be the Bills' backup with no curse. He'd be a great fit for the Bills as a #2, assuming Mitch moves on.

OL coach Bobby Johnson headed to NY, has signed contract
msw2112 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
All I have to go in is the tweet above that says "in the same role." I assume that means it's a lateral move. As I undestand the rules, the Bills would have the right to deny permission, but certainly can waive that right if they so choose. If (a) they were considering moving on from Johnson anyway, (b) Johnson wanted to move on from the Bills, there's no reason they should our would deny permission. Even if they wanted to keep Johnson, it's never good to keep someone who is ready to move on. -
Joe Burrow: 'Bengals beat second-best team in the AFC, twice'
msw2112 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
I love the Bills and think they would have beaten the Bengals in Buffalo on Sunday and that the Bills would win if they played tomorrow, but the Bengals were able to do what the Bills were not able to do - go into KC and win a playoff game. They are AFC Champions and by virtue of that, the "best" team in the AFC. They didn't win on a disputed call or crazy bounce. They won the game straight up. The Chiefs, by virtue of beating the Bills in the previous game, are 2nd "best" in the AFC. The Bills may have the best QB, the best fans, the best future ahead of them, etc. I think the Bills will be the "best" team next season. -
Bills interviewing Raiders WR coach Edgar Bennett for OC

Not so sure about that. Pep was with Jim at Michigan and they parted ways and it wasn't because of overwhelming success. They did have previous success together at Stanford. What about Zay Jones? -

POLL: Which ad are you happier NOT to be seeing lately?
msw2112 replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
I didn't know who she was, but she kind of looked familiar, so I looked it up. I agree that SNL is a shell of its former self, but there are still funny bits here and there. I don't watch it reguarly or look forward to it like I once did, but I do watch it on occasion and it's OK. The current Weekend Update guys are very funny and I like the fact that the show pokes fun at both sides of the aisle in their bits. They get Trump, Biden, Pelosi, Ted Cruz, etc., all of whom provide plenty of material. By the way, after making this post, I came across this SNL (and Weekend Update) clip, referenced in the articles on TBD. There are a couple of Bills references: -

The Serena commercials are absolutely terrible, but the one saving grace is the "guest appearance" by John McEnroe in one of them. I'm a fan of Johnny Mac from back in the day. -
Marrone Appears to be out as the Alabama OL Coach.....

Please god, no. I'm a big Michigan fan (almost as much as I am a Bills fan). -
POLL: Which ad are you happier NOT to be seeing lately?
msw2112 replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not a Baker Mayfield fan, but I thought the Progressive commercials were clever at funny at the beginning. I also thought that maybe he should focus more on football, as he hadn't quite established his statue in the league. I remember Andrew Luck purposely declining commerical opportunities to focus on football and I respected that. I'm not sure Baker's teammates are fond of seeing his face all over the airwaves when he's missing reads, taking sacks and throwing picks that perhaps could have been avoided if he watched more film. With the success they've had, Mahomes and Rodgers have "earned it" a little bit more, so I have less of an issue with them being in commercials. I also thought that the State Farm ads were clever and funny at the beginning. Now, however, I've had more than my fill of the "Rodgers rate" and "Patrick price." These guys now just come off as arrogant pricks that are full of themselves. The commercials are stale and no longer funny. I will admit to having a mild interest in the ax-throwing woman in one of the newer ones. Football aside, the Kate McKinnon Verizon ads are like nails on the chalkboard. Terrible. She's very funny on SNL and might need to stick to that. Maybe she can return kicks. -
I disagee on the 2nd point. On Hail Murray, Hopkins was surrounded by THREE Bills defenders, including some of our best DBs. I don't think you could blanket a WR any better without mugging him to the point of getting a PI call (and yes, I know those are rare on Hail Mary passes). Hopkins just made an unbelievable play. On the other end of that play, Addison had Murray on the run and he was scrambling for his life and nearly OB before unleashing the throw. It was just a great play on both ends. The Cardinals suck (relative to the Bills) and the Bills should never have been in that position. This is UNLIKE Sunday. Hill, Kelce and Mahomes did not make any incredible athletic plays in the final 13 seconds. They just took what the defense gave them. They were not proprerly covered or even impeded by the Bills top defensive backs - they were wide open with a free release off the line. As to the OP - while I don't think we are over-reacting in the respect of being upset and frustrated, I do think this board is beating the situation to death. Me included. It should have been handled better, a huge opportunity to get to and win a SB was squandered, etc. But it happened, it's over, and no matter how many threads we have about it, how many ways we scrutinize it, how many ways it could have been better handled, etc. are not going to change it. The Bills still have a very good coaching staff, a great team and will be a contender for years to come. The Bills are extremely fortunate to have Josh Allen. 30 other teams wish they had him.

Are we overplaying this team's chances had we won?
msw2112 replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Another way to look at it is this - if the Chiefs win it all, the Bills will see that team that they a) beat at KC earlier this year; and b) went toe-to-toe with last week at KC and should have beaten but for horrendus special teams and defensive schemes in the last 13 seconds - in other words a team they are as good as - was able to win it all. That might give them confidence that they are good enough to win it all and help them focus on getting home field advantage for a run next year. Perhaps fewer regular season let-downs would result. Keep in mind that last year, the Chiefs beat the Bills handily twice - once in Buffalo (score was close, but Chiefs controlled the whole game) and in the AFCCG, where the Chiefs spotted the Bills 2 scores and still blew them out. The Bills have clearly narrowed/closed the gap and are as good as the best. Year 1 - KC clearly better; Year 2 - narrow/close the gap, draw even; Year 3 - surpass. It may not play out this way, but it certainly could. If KC flops, the Bills will have lost to a team that wasn't the best. My prediction is that the Chiefs beat Cincy. Cincy will scrap and stay in the game for a while, but KC will pull away. The Rams will beat SF and get to the SB. Rams-Chiefs will be a very close battle. Rams D is fierce and with Stafford, Kupp, OBJ, etc. they are dangerous enough on offense to put up points. Stafford is not as elusive as Mahomes and more likely to turn the ball over, so KC wins a close game. -
Sad, but very funny. I like it.

Ken Dorsey - would he choose OC here or leave to be Daboll's OC?
msw2112 replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't know much about Dorsey personally, but staying in Buffalo objectively seems like the much better choice. You have a winning team with strong offensive personnel and a HOF-caliber QB already in place. The Giants (or Bears, or wherever Daboll might end up) could turn out to be total s*&t show ending up with everyone getting fired. Doing a good job with the Bills (which would almost seem inevitable) would lead to HC opportunities in the future. -
I would give Daboll and big raise and try to keep him
msw2112 replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's a in great spot with the Bills, but I don't see him foregoing an opportunity to be a NFL head coach. -
Jags Finalizing deal with Byron Leftwich [Edit: Or Not]
msw2112 replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Seems like a good choice on many levels. Has had success as an OC with multiple organizations over a number of years, street-cred from having played in the league for many years, is a former QB, so can relate to Lawrence, played for the team, so a known personality locally, etc. -
Norwood didn't choke. He missed a kick that he didn't normally make. He was a very accurate kicker on short-range kicks, but to kick from 47-48 yards out (which in those days was a long FG - it's a more routine distance these days), from the right hash, on grass - not to mention the pressure of the situation - is not a kick Norwood would typically make. Yes, he could have risen to the occassion and didn't, but it wasn't a choke. Sunday's final 13 seconds was a true choke. Effectively keeping a team out of FG range in 13 seconds, including a kickoff, is something that a team would normally be able to do.
-
Yes. Did you watch his rookie season - in particular the playoff game against the Colts? I don't post as much as many others here, but I said in the early weeks of the season that Davis should be our #2 and that he was superior to Sanders. When Sanders got hot, I retreated a little bit (and said as much in my posts), but I have always thought that Davis was stud. I also think that McKenzie is underutilized. In games he has been featured 1) the second Miami game last year; and 2) the second NE game this year, he's been lights out. He's got excellent speed and has displayed good hands at WR in the last couple of seasons. I think he's been better as a WR than as a kick returner.

An earlier post mentioned Kelce's ability to find openings in the defense being attribued to him being a former QB. For what it's worth, Knox is also a former QB who switched to TE in college and hasn't played the position for that long. He may develop more savvy over time. He has clearly improved over time with the Bills. In regard to some of the other posts, I love Allen and wouldn't trade him for any player in the league, even Mahomes, but I think we need to stop with the narrative that Mahomes isn't very good or that he's going to be exposed in the future. The guy, like Allen, is a phenomenal football player and along with Allen, the best in the game. Both had lulls this season as defenses adjusted, but they were both able to overcome the adjustments that the defenses made to return to the highest level of quarterbacking. I could deal without the "Patrick price" commercials and all of the ball-washing from the media, but you've got to give the guy his due. He's great and will be in the HOF. He also has 2 SB appearances and a ring. It looks like we'll have to wait another year to surpass him in the playoffs, but I think the Bills will learn from this season that they can't dick around early in the season and lose games to inferior opponents like the Steelers, Patriots and Jags. They need to lock up home field for the playoffs and are more than capable of doing it next year.

How BOTH coin tosses contributed to the Bills loss against the Chiefs
msw2112 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is an interesting concept. I would say that the 5 yard line would be too extreme and the 10 borderline, but the 15 yard line would be a good spot in this scenario. Or maybe the 12 1/2....With modern offenses, the 25 is too advantageous to the offense.
