  1. Spikes, Peters, Evans - honorable mention to Freddy Jackson. As mentioned above, Allen to Evans (in his prime) would be one hell of a combination. I loved watching Evans catch bombs from JP Losman, and Allen > Losman, at least a little bit.
  2. It would be great if the Bills could find a spot for Fitz in the organization. The coaching staff is probably full, but he could be an "advisor" or "ambassador." "Community relations?" He doesn't need the money, but perhaps it's something that he would enjoy doing and that would add some value to the organization.
  3. If you have a strong running game and backs that can catch the ball out of the backfield effectively, using those options in lieu of a QB run is not playing timid. There's no doubt that Allen's running is a great asset to the team, but it is smart to limit his runs to protect against injury. McDermott said this very thing a couple of weeks ago. That's why the signed Duke Johnson and drafted Cook, plus hired a new OL coach.
  4. Unfortunately, all it takes is one bad hit and Allen could be out for multiple weeks or the season. He's a big, strong kid, but if he gets hit right on the knee or in the head, he could get seriously injured. Let's hope the addition of Cook will help with screens and dump-offs and that the addition of Kromer will improve the OL play and run game so that Allen doesn't have to run as much as he has in the past.
  5. I have my tickets. Will be meeting with family just north of San Diego and driving up for the game. Got upper deck around the 50. Crazy expensive for a regular season game, but we wanted to be there, so we will!
  6. I'm in Denver for Memorial Day weekend. I might need to swing by for a showing. It would be a little tight, but my family and I could probably squeeze into that house.
  7. I remember thinking, at the time Miller came out of college and was a draft target of the Bills, that he was too small, so I was hoping the Bills would end up with Marcel Dareus from Alabama who had a more "NFL-caliber" physique. That shows you how good my personnel evaluation skills are...I also liked the "most NFL-ready" QB Josh Rosen. In the years since then, I had forgotten how small Miller was as his HOF career has progressed. Having seen that video yesterday I again remembered that he's not a very big dude. I think I'm OK with that now.
  8. This is where losing Levi Wallace hurts. White's return has some questions (1. When and 2. How Effective) and Elam is a rookie and also just 1 player. Benford seems more like a practice squad type of guy than a guy who's going to see a lot of NFL action as a rookie. I suspect they'll add a veteran or 2 at some point and may be waiting on training camp cuts. Also, in addition to Dane Jackson, they may feel better about the likes of Cam Lewis, Nick McCloud, Olaijah Griffin, etc. than many on this board do. Siran Neal is also listed as a CB, but he seems to be more of a utility guy to me. They may believe they can get equal or better production out of those young guys who know the Bills' system than bringing in a vet from the outside. That's aside from the cost factor. A guy who they get for the vet minimum probably isn't very good and a more expensive guy still might not be any better than what they already have. Plus, the zone schemes that they run can cover up some talent deficiences in the defensive backfield. I trust the Bills' coachng staff and front office. They seem to know what they're doing.
  9. A common philosophy with O-lines is to "put the best 5 on the field." The Bills seemed to follow this logic when they put Brown at RT and moved Williams inside to RG. They did the opposite with Bates, instead trying just about everyone else at guard (Ike, Ford, the towel boy) before making Bates the starter. I believe it's because they really liked Bates' flexibility. He can back up all 5 OL positions, so they wanted to have him ready in the event of an injury. And maybe they were able to save a roster spot because of it. If Bates starts, do you need more players to back up all of the 5 OL positions? Regardless of what they were doing prior to that, making Bates the starter was clearly the right move. The Bills' running game and offense were significantly improved after the Bates was inserted into the starting lineup. They also made the right move to match his offer sheet - they are now keeping a good, young lineman at a very reasonable cost.
  10. From the segment of the altercation that I could see, it looks like there is fault and very poor judgment on the part of both parties. And even if Langley isn't completely at fault, this will hurt his NFL chances. Teams take chances on guys with "issues" if those guys are good players and/or players with perceived upside (like Tyreek Hill, Frank Clark, Ritchie Incognito, or Tyrel Dodson, just to name a few). If Langley is not currently on a roster, he's probably not one of those types of guys. There are plenty of end of the bench, practice squad, and/or training camp fodder guys who don't have this kind of baggage (pun not initially indended). And the United Airlines guy is next level stupid. You should never fight a) while on the job, unless you are a boxer or hockey player; and b) with a guy who is younger, taller, and clearly much more physically fit than you are.
  11. The guy is, and has always been, such a huge d-bag that his failings are of interest. I guess. And, yes, I also thought the story was incomplete without the aforementioned photos.
  12. Looks like ole Jay is a better "player" off the field than on it.
  13. I don't eat wings very often, but when I do, I certainly can knock off a bunch. If am ordering for just me, I will get a single order, which is usually between 6 and 12. Let's be real - while 12 might be enough, there's no way 6 (or even 10) is enough. The usual trick is to order a double order, usually 16-24, to "share with the table." Then the family has a couple, and I eat the rest....At Josh's age, size and as much as he likely works out, he can probably handle 40 from time to time. When I was in my 20's, I could eat like that. I remember being in college and coupons for "buy 1 get 1 free" footlongs at Subway were around. I would use the coupon and proceed to eat BOTH - in one sitting! If I did that today, I would not only be very fat, but also very sick.
  14. This was a very hot topic in the thread regarding the recent events in Buffalo. There was so much interest in these shirts that I thought it warranted its own thread. If the moderators feel it should be merged into the other thread, that's fine. The link below contains the details about the shirts from the WKBW TV website and below is the tweet from the Bills: https://www.wkbw.com/news/local-news/buffalo-strong/looking-for-a-choose-love-shirt-the-buffalo-bills-wore-team-says-they-will-be-available-soon
  15. Hopefully, this will get back to the team and they will sell the shirts, with most (or all) of the proceeds going back to the victims' families. My family would certainly buy a few and, based on what I'm seeing on this board, it would be a very easy sell.
  16. I shared the story and some of the images with my wife. Her response (in addition to agreeing that it was a great response to a terrible situation) was "I want one of those Choose Love t-shirts."
  17. I can't speak directly to what's gone on in other communities that have faced tragedies like this, but what I am seeing in Buffalo from the Bills organization (and to an extent the Sabres and Bandits) is impressive. It speaks to the character and leadership that exists in these organizations and yes, some of that comes from the top (the Pegulas) down. It also speaks to the kind of place that Buffalo is. I was born and raised there, but really have not lived there since graduating high school (which, unfortunately for me, was a long time ago), and although I've lived in 3 other states since then and in some highly "desirable" places, I have never lived in a place as special as Buffalo. If family and work circumstances allowed it, I'd have moved back a long time ago. My wife, who is not from Buffalo and who I did not know when I lived there, has visited a few times with me and loves it. She also would move there in a heartbeat, if circumstances allowed for it.
  18. Unless the Bills completely implode and fail to be in playoff contention (without an injury to Josh Allen), McDermott stays. Every coach makes questionable calls - think of Pete Carroll throwing the ball on the goal line against NE with Lynch in the backfield - likely costing the Seahawks a SB - but he's been a successful coach for a long time and he (appropriately) kept his job. Remember, McDermott got this team into the playoffs (even if just barely) in a Tyrod Taylor/Nate Peterman season and then has reached new heights with Allen under center. The guy isn't perfect - nobody is - but he's an excellent coach that has won a lot of games.
  19. I was flipping through the channels looking for a NHL playoff game the other night and accidentally hit NFL Network. They were showing the Bills-Chiefs playoff game and there were about 4 minutes to go. I couldn't help myself, and watched up until the OT coin toss. After reading about and discussing 13 seconds ad nauseam on this board, I figured it was time to take another look - for me, the first time I had watched it since it happened live. The TV replay didn't reveal much about the kickoff, but it was clear as day that Kelce got a 100% free release off the line on the play that set up the game tying FG. I was pissed seeing it, but it clearly shows where/when/how the Bills screwed it up. That was truly the biggest contributor to the failure.
  20. The Cardinals are fools. Trading a first round pick for a middling speed receiver with questionable hands....I can't wait until they pay Kyler Murray $40+ million per year and cement a decade of mediocrity.
  21. I am on board with the Cook pick and think and hope he'll be a great addition to the team, and a cost-controlled one at that. But to say that he's better than a healthy Christian McCaffery, at this point, when the guy was not a starter in college and hasn't played an NFL snap, is a bit much. I agree that McCaffery's injury history and salary would be concerns for the Bills (or any team). That said, I do think that guys get injured more often and stay injured longer on bad teams. Guys are more likely to play banged up if their team is in contention and has something play for. They don't rush back on the field so quickly when their team has no hope of even making the playoffs. By that theory, I think that if the Bills had acquired McCaffery, he would have missed far less time than he did in Carolina.
  22. 3rd round picks are usually the hardest to sign, but a lot of the so-called experts thought Bernard was a reach in the 3rd round. This is likely due to his size. Perhaps that's why he was easier to sign than the typical 3rd rounder.
  23. Good for Jerry. He'll be missed, but with (a) Von Miller signing, (b) having 3 young DEs in the fold, (c) Jerry getting on to the downside of his excellent career, and (d) the salary cap implications of signing Hughes to a potential backup role, it was time. I wish him luck in Houston and hope he lights it up, so long as his success doesn't do any harm to the Bills chances. I don't think it will. I hope he got a nice payday - for him personally, and for the salary cap of another AFC team to take a hit.
