  1. The bolded part is a great point. Today, there is too much information being shared during the telecasts and so much that it distracts from simply enjoying the game on the field. It really annoys me when nonsense stats are being created and shared: "Did you know that Josh Allen in the only QB in NFL history to have 200 passing yards, more than 86 rushing yards, and no sacks in the third quarter of two straight games?" Obviously, I made that up, but the point is that crap stats like that are a detriment to the enjoyment of the game.
  2. I have not watched Hard Knocks in the past, other than maybe a few minutes of a random episode here or there. I watched episode 1 last night as I was doing some chores around the house and wanted something on in the background. Definitely a lot of ball washing going on. I'm not sure I'll be drawn back to see more.
  3. Every year, there's a young, unheralded WR who has a great camp and preseason. He doesn't make the roster and is never heard from again that season. Sometimes he comes back and does it again the next season, and still doesn't make the team. I'm not sure who that guy will end up being this year. (NOTE: it would be a fun thread to post the names of those guys from the past). Sherfied is NOT that guy. Sherfield is a veteran who has been with a few teams and has actually produced in the league. He had pretty good stats in Miami last year, and he was the 3rd option, at best. He's one of those guys that doesn't have a high draft status or a big name, so he gets passed over for guys that are less talented or less deserving than him. He's showing his value in camp this season and he'll make the 53 and be a contributor. He could probably contribute a lot more than he will simply due to numbers. There's only one ball and the team has to feed Diggs, Davis, Kincaid, Knox, and others, plus, the team is trying to put more focus on the run game this year. I think he's a legitimate #3 and could be a #2 in the right situation, but with the Bills' offense he'll be somewhere from the 3rd to 5th option. He'll still see the field and make some big plays and we will be very glad the Bills signed him.
  4. For better or for worse, a lot of people moved out of Buffalo over the last several decades. Most have remained loyal Bills fans - it's what we do. Plus, Bills fandom tends to be much stronger than fandom of other teams. Many fans have no interest in watching pre-season games. Bills fans watch practices. My point is that it would behoove NFL Network (or networks) to pick up Bills preseason games on a national basis, because it will generate a lot of viewers.
  5. Mitch Trubisky was the perfect backup QB for this team. I undestand that he went to Pittsburgh for the chance to start and revive his career, but now he's backing up Pickett. It's not to stay that Mitch is a great player, but he's been around the league long enough to know what he's doing, he's been with the team before, so he knows the offense, and he's still young and athletic. On his best day, he's probably better than the average NFL QB and would give the Bills a chance to compete with anybody. He's not going to have is best day every time out, but even when it isn't his best day, the team would still have a decent chance of winning against most teams if the defense and special teams played well. Barkley is not that talented. On his best day, the team would need the defense and special teams and if it wasn't his best day, the Bills would likely be toast. I have not seen Kyle Allen play enough to assess where he falls. That's what this preseason will be for. Obviously, so far, Kyle Allen is not as good as Barkely, but that could change through the course of camp and preseason.
  6. I was one of the posters who made a joke about Phillips (actually an add-on to another joke). That aside, I am a Phillips fan and like what he brings to the team. The inside pash rush has been lacking and the season he had a couple of years ago was the best we've seen from an interior lineman in a long time and since. If he can play to that level again, he's a bargain at his current contract price. I don't know if he's still got that in him, but that's what camp is for and for the coaches to decide.
  7. That happened to me many years ago when I was a teenage kid at the stadium. The difference is that I WAS drunk.
  8. For me, it's probably best that they don't stream it. Then I would spend a couple of hours in front of a screen watching a football practice....I'm all for attending in person - being outside, the energy of the crowd, etc. - but watching a practice online is not a good use of my time. I'm a Bills junkie and I'd watch it if it was offered. So thank you BIlls and/or NFL rules for saving me from myself.
  9. Then, due to the hammy, pulled up short and fell over, injuring his shoulder.
  10. That speech, particularly when Apollo says "you've got to get it back," is one of my favorite movie lines of all time and I quote it frequently. The scene that follows, with Rocky doing wind sprints on the beach, etc. is very inspirational too. Maybe McD will show it to the team! Mine: I III IV lost track after that For some reason, II never resonated with me that much.
  11. I agree with this, but I do think that if this happens, he is offered a spot on the PS.
  12. The road game at New England late in 2021 was a perfect example of this. It was the game where McKenzie started in place of Beasley and had a huge game. Check out the drive chart from the Bills' first scoring drive (pasted below). A masterful drive, controlling the clock, moving methodically down the field, taking what the defense gave them. THIS is what we need to see more of. If a team can move the ball like this, keep taking it, but if the defense creeps up to take away the short stuff, it opens up things downfield. The Bills should have the personnel to do this. TOUCHDOWN 13 PLAYS, 61 YARDS, 6:57 BUF7 NE0 1st & 10 at BUF 39 (13:34 - 1st) (Shotgun) J.Allen pass incomplete short right to S.Diggs (J.Jackson). 2nd & 10 at BUF 39 (13:27 - 1st) (Shotgun) J.Allen pass short left to D.Singletary pushed ob at 50 for 11 yards (K.Dugger). 1st & 10 at 50 (12:52 - 1st) T.Doyle reported in as eligible. 13. The guy has been a bust in the NFL so far, but he has speed, so there's no harm in kicking the tires. Maybe he's a camp body, maybe he's a practice squad guy, maybe he "figures it out" and displaces someone else and makes the team. Maybe he tries out and the Bills say "no thank you" and he moves on. The bottom line is that there's no harm in taking a look at a guy. Worst case, it costs the team the cost of a flight and a ride to and from the airport. Maybe a lunch too.
  14. Maybe, although McDermott grew up in the Philly sububrs and played sports, so it's possible (probable?) that he was a Flyers fan and watched hockey growing up. Most guys that I know are familar with the basic rules of football, hockey, basketball, baseball, etc. But I realize that your comment was somewhat in jest....
  15. I was thinking about the couple of good moments he had with the Bills and wondering why he'd want to be at odds with the franchise, and then I realized that this guy is Thad BROWN and I was thinking of Thad LEWIS.
  16. Oak Island is great. Rented a house on the beach there with friends a few years back. I remember the water being super warm. There was a pizza place owned by a guy from Buffalo that was pretty good, but he said that he couldn't fully replicate the Buffalo crust because the water was different. In any event, everyone be safe in the water.
  17. I came in that weekend too and it was great. Sabres won in OT over Blackhawks on Saturday night, then a beautiful 60 degree sunny fall day on Sunday for a full day of tailgating before the Bills took out the Packers on Sunday night. I used to do a lot of work in Milwaukee and Madison and have made many good friends there. We all met up in Wisconsin and went to the Bills-Packers game at Lambeau a few years ago (Josh's rookie year) and we all met up in Buffalo for the game last year. It was their first time in Buffalo and they loved it. Because Milwaukee doesn't have a NHL team, they adopted the Sabres and bought a bunch of Sabres gear that they are now proudly wearing back in Wisconsin. They also consider the Bills their 2nd favorite team and their "AFC" team. Very good folk up in those parts and they are very similar in culture and personality to WNYers.
  18. For what it's worth, I have been gone from WNY for a few decades myself, but visited last fall for the GB game. Went with friends to the Bar Bill in Clarence (near the Amherst border at Main and Transit). It was good. Not over the top great, but solidly good. That said, due to some airline mishaps, I was thrilled to be ANYWHERE in WNY and drinking a cold beer with a waitress bringing food to the table.
  19. I agree that Shakir will have a good season, whether he starts or not. I also see contributions from Benford (he contributed last year and has one more year of NFL experience under his belt). I also agree that Elam and Cook should be better and contribute more. I have not see enough of Bernard to make a judgment, but hopefully a year with an NFL training and nutrition staff has bulked him up a bit, plus another year to learn the playbook. Bernard is a guy that is supposed to have great intangibles, so hopefully some work on the physical and mental side of the game will pay off.
  20. It's a long read, but a good story that gives a lot of insight into Jones. It's too bad things didn't work out for him in Buffalo, but both parties have moved on successfully. I wish Jones well, except when the Jags and Bills are playing.
  21. I think that as Bills/NFL fans, a lot of folks are interested in how their salaries impact the salary cap and how that helps or limits the team's ability to sign other quality players. That's where I fall. The other perspective is that, as a fan, people think "their guy" is the best, and since their salaries are public, they want to see their guy at the top of the list. Personally, I like it when my guy is willing to take less so that the team can benefit more. Brady did this, Mahomes is doing this, and Allen is doing it too. Allen could have held out for more money than the Bills paid him, but instead took a very fair deal that took care of him nicely and also left some room for the team to sign other guys.
  22. I was horrified and pissed off when the Bills hired Rex and couldn't wait until he was gone. But not as horrified and pissed off as I was when they hired Dick Jauron.
  23. I was not a Tua fan when he was at Alabama and certainly not a fan when he went to the Fins. I have to admit, however, that when healthy, he played well, and I've been impressed with his personality in interviews. It's hard not to like the guy. I guess I wish him personal success (and health), but not team success, as I still despise the Dolphins.
  24. I don't listen to or watch a lot of sports talk. I don't dislike it, but I prefer to watch live sports and form my own opinions and conclusions. If there are not live sports available, I prefer to get some exercise, read a book, watch a movie, etc. When I say live sports, it's limited to NFL and college football, college hoops, NHL, NBA (playoffs only), MLB (playoffs only), and maybe the last few holes of a major golf tournament. If I want the opinion of others, I come....HERE! If I'm flipping through the channels and there's sports talk on and nothing else of interest, I'll listen to what they have to say, particularly if it's about one of my teams, but, I honestly don't get too worked up about it. If Colin Cowherd (or Jim Rome, or Nick Wright [not sure I know who he is, but have seen his name here on TBD], or some other bloviating talking head) doesn't like the Bills or Sean McDermott, who cares?
  25. I saw him play for the Bills in a preseason game against the Packers at Lambeau. He was excellent in that game.
