  1. Indeed, as were her friends, the boozers! My mother couldn’t drink any alcohol for decades for medical reasons. Her friends made up for her. They were the people who had their own bar stool at the same gin mill every day, and they would hold court there.
  2. My mother uses the term gin mill a lot. It’s where the boozers hang out. 😊 She’s 97, it’s too late for me to fix that. .
  3. I sit at a bar almost every day….for lunch as I drink my Arnold Palmer and read my book. Somewhere along the line I got very particular about not drinking and driving. Even a glass of wine with dinner makes me uncomfortable. Fortunately, the wife barely drinks any alcohol so I have a designated driver. But to answer your question, I see adults gathering at bars with their beer and even drinking shots. That ended in college for me.
  4. My wife’s roommate worked at Ruby’s when I met her. She was a bartender and made about $400 on a good night. We made peanuts as new kids at banks. That is why it was a little eye opening when the bartender was wearing my wife’s missing ring while slinging drinks. Live and learn. My ex-BIL once went to court because he stole a cherry tomato off a salad bar at a Wendy’s. He did it, he was confronted, I bet all he had to do was not be a jackass. But he was an entitled doctor and couldn’t just be decent to make it all go away. No, I don’t recall seeing that on the menu at the last bowling alley I attended, in Florida.
  5. I’ll have you know I have 516 consecutive days of French lessons on Duolingo, so don’t mess with me! My dog does not look like a goat! I’ve certainly heard of it, but I was heading farther south as soon as I left for college at 17. Heck, I even had a Canadian guy in my wedding! If you want to call me unworldly, what is this Sundowner stuff I hear about?
  6. That’s interesting. I love my beef on weck, but I’ve never had fries with gravy, and I wouldn’t even know where to go to get it. I’m not sure if I’ve ever even seen it in person. 🤷‍♂️
  7. In the early days with my wife our big night out on the town was Friday nights at Ruby Tuesday’s. We would share the sampler platter weekly, and I’d have two draft beers while she had a strawberry daiquiri and we played Galaga. The sampler platter was an important part of a perfect evening. Simple times, great memories.
  8. Nachos are my go to….but only if they can do them right. That is rare these days. When did queso become part of nachos? A proper nacho is not made with queso! About 40 years ago we had our favorite Mexican place on Hilton Head, and they had awesome nachos! One layer of chips covered with cheddar and jalapeños, then stuck under a high heat to melt. Simple. And perfect! We were planning a trip to Hilton Head and started talking about the places we wanted to eat. About half of the 4 hour drive we talked about foods from certain places, and we became fixated on the nachos from San Miquel’s. We were obsessed with them and decided to go there before we even check into our condo. We went straight to the restaurant and ordered the nachos. We were told “we took those off the menu on Tuesday.” WHAT? They did have some piled up nacho crap with queso, but I wanted MY nachos. After 40+ years they take it off the menu 48 hours before I arrive? They caved and made them for me, but it was the beginning of the end for nachos for me. I still make flat chips (rounds) with cheddar and jalapeños on most game days. <nacho rant over>
  9. I hate it when that happens…..
  10. I’m not arguing, because I don’t even pretend to “study film” on any of these guys. But I thought it was ironic that NFL.com has the NFL comparison for Mikel Williams as a Mr Gregory Rousseau.
  11. Should we still watch, you know…..just in case? We all need some forgiveness!
  12. My wife will tell you that was our record in consecutive seasons when we were first married (1985). She asked me “Why do you do this to yourself???” Now she proudly wears a Bills shirt that says “I Married Into This.” We enjoy these Bills, and hope they get over the top one year. But it won’t ruin my life if that never happens. We’re enjoying the ride. .
  13. And yet, we were 3 points and a few questionable calls from the Super Bowl. I hope we can suck much like that next year, with a couple things going our way for a change. I’m glad I don’t let this stuff make me miserable.
  14. My mother is 97 and she’s almost impossible to call. She won’t hear the ring or be able to answer in time. My sisters try at call but almost never get thru. Fortunately, she’s in a nursing home now with full time care so we no longer have to worry about her being on her own. Having said that, I have absolutely no idea what happened in this situation. RIP
  15. The first color TV I ever saw was at Jack Kemp’s house. I went to 3rd grade with his son Jeff. That was pretty cool! He had a toy chest full of AFL game balls, and even spent quite a few years in the NFL himself.
  16. Being an adult all the time can be so exhausting. Maybe a little rant will help. 🤷‍♂️
  17. I looked him up and noticed he had missed time, and that would explain it. Save him for the Chiefs or the Browns.
  18. Atlanta, for better or worse. There is a place not far away owned by a guy from Grand Island. St Angelo’s is my go to for wings and pizza.
  19. I miss great pizza……
  20. Do you ever feel like they are just teasing us? It’s like high school all over again! 😂
  21. I’d love all the outdoor cooking options, but my deck barely has room for the Weber. 🤷‍♂️
  22. We don’t have anything that cool (yet), but we’ve done it with pizza stones in the oven for a party and everybody enjoys a little ownership and a lot of laughs and good times. It’s an event as much as a meal.
  23. We were with my BIL last weekend and he was talking about his new pizza oven. It gets up to 950 degrees, and it only takes about one minute. You have to turn it every 15 seconds . We just have a stone we use in the oven.
  24. It certainly seems like there is surge in permissions to seek a trade. I hope this doesn’t turn into the NBA where the players rule the league. I don’t even watch the NBA Finals now.
