My mother would gladly give you her identity. I think she’s kind of sick of it and would love to swap. What you got? Knowing someone’s name is…..kinda common.

[edit: Jaguars LB Josh Allen] tests positive for COVID-19
Augie replied to cv05's topic in The Stadium Wall
Since it was not from a source I thought of as reliable, I immediately assumed it was the Jag’s Josh, and just some chump looking to get a cheap rise from people. Like almost any April Fools thread, I approach with caution. I don’t know why that title would seem like a good idea, but some people are just “different” and like attention, regardless of whether most of it was negative. -
Yep, I’m enjoying the season. Not as much as I had hoped for due to our results and the COVID uncertainty, but I’m still enjoying it and looking forward to every game. We have only lost badly once all year. There were complaints about blowout losses in recent years, but that is not the case now. We were a few plays away from a MUCH better record, and the tone would be different with a few breaks. These are strange times, and the lows seem a little lower, while the highs are a little less high. We need to adapt, because that’s the situation we are in. We have a very good team with a bright future. I still believe and have high hopes long term without just focusing on the last loss. But COVID still SUCKS!

Tomorrow will be just me, the wife and my 94 year old mother. Not exactly the Christmas Day I remember so fondly, but some day I will miss Christmas with my mom, so it’s just special in a different way. Christmas will be shared with our son, DIL and grandson another day. That’s fine. We just moved this week and don’t even have a tree up. Next year should be more “Christmassy” with music, a tree and some gifts other than a new house, etc. Hopefully my mom will still be with us, and we can take her to Mass without so much fear of crowds. Merry Christmas everyone!

That’s AWESOME! I just hope our superstar stud physical specimen of a professional athlete didn’t actually EAT anything while he was there!

Our Florida house could handle that many, and often did, without using the whole house or outdoor living areas. Our first Atlanta house struggled to handle 23 at Thanksgiving, one of the reasons we moved last week to a house that can handle a large party. We like to entertain and always have, but we like out neighborhood. SO…..we bought a bigger house four doors away! You can only throw the BIG party so often. More than about a dozen and you don’t get to spend time and talk with everyone. But when you want to go all out, you just need the space to do it right. The wife has already said next year’s office holiday party is going to be at our place. It might take that long to replace the kitchen and get it the way we want it. EDIT: A telling difference between my wife and myself - While she’s planning to host next year’s work holiday party, I’m looking to throw THIS year’s AFC/NFC Championship games! Hoping the Bills are in there, but fun either way. Best day of the year for a party! The Super Bowl is more hype, and half the chance you’ll get a good game. Pool table gets delivered next week, but we probably won’t have that furniture yet……so I’ll tell people to bring “soccer chairs” if need be. Hey, it’s a work in progress! .

WHOA! That’s a good size crowd! Good luck pulling it off, and Merry Christmas everyone! Throw in a happy and healthy New Year! EDIT: Curious to know what you’re having for so many people. .

My mother’s maiden name was Mary Louise Drury. She had a friend growing up who had a speech impediment and couldn’t pronounce Drury. It came out sounding like Dewey. So…..somehow Mary Louise went out the window and for the last 80 years she has been know as Dewey. Few people even know she’s actually Mary Louise.

…..and all this time I kept reading it was the refs.

Ha! I remember interviewing a potential bank branch manager in my banking days. She was an OU, Athens grad, and my boss was familiar with the area. I had to laugh when my boss said as soon as the door closed “well, we know she can drink!”

Because AT&T took away my NFLN on cable, without reducing my fees, BTW, I have to switch over to DTV which I only use for Sunday Ticket and NFLN. This is seriously a first world problem when I am upset that I need to change to another source go get the game on the new 77” HDTV. Should I also whine that it’s not in 4K? Because I’m ready for some 4K content! Then again, I don’t have to walk across the room to change the channel or adjust the rabbit ears, so I guess life isn’t so bad?

I’m in. I had been lurking for years, but signed up after my sister, 3 years older who some of you have met, needed quadruple bypass surgery. Out of the blue! She’s tall and skinny, walked the dogs miles a day, never smoked but chest pains put her in the ER, and surgery immediately followed. It shook me up. So…..my middle name is Augustine. (Thanks, Mom and Dad!) She knew how much I hated it, so she would call me Augie Doggie, just to piss me off! While she was recovering from surgery I joined the board, and I was thinking of her. .

My must list when I get back includes Zip’s in Mt Lookout and Arthur’s in Hyde Park. Both locations have other nice options, but those are “my places”. Dana’s near Xavier is also a game day stop, but I can’t exactly push that unless you have a generous nostalgia influence, if you know what I mean. (College dive bar….and it’s a pretty deep dive!) I have a buddy who worked at Jungle Jim’s briefly. I hear it’s really something! We’ve lived with Publix for decades which is like a Hampton Inn, reliable but unspectacular. The family LOVED hitting Wegman’s when were were in WNY for the opener. It was “an event” compared to Publix. Next trip to Cincinnati I’ll try to hit Jungle Jim’s just to see it. EDIT: Great! Now I’m craving a Zipburger! .

I spent my college years in Cincinnati, and before the pandemic I’d still go back once a year for a Xavier basketball game every year and to meet up with old friends. The Over the Rhine area used to be dangerous, but it’s hopping now with all kinds of breweries and bars. They are packed with 20-somethings having a great time. Across the river there are some great options. I still like the character of Mt Adams, Hyde Park and Mt Lookout. No, it’s not Miami, NYC or LA, but there are only a handful of those cities in the country. It’s not Green Bay, either. .

I’ll just assume you are referring to adding to your renowned collection of restraining orders?

Was this part of some thesis, or did you have to write it before they would let you out???

I texted someone about making them eat their heart out recently. WHAT? 🤷♂️

The expression probably existed before I heard Andy Roddick say it, but when asked about his “rivalry” with Roger Federer, he said it’s not really a rivalry between the hammer and the nail. We need wins to make it more than an emotional game for fans.

Highmark Stadium Difference Between 100 and 300 Level Seats
Augie replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall
We just moved and I’m not sure about this house, but in the old house the kitchen and family rooms TV’s were a couple seconds off. Not 20 feet away! Annoying as hell! The cable guy just shrugged, nothing he could do so I would mute the slower TV’s audio. My son was watching the Panther game from Florida and he was running about 45 seconds behind. I had to stop texting him! It reminded me of The Sting with Robert Redford and his horse racing scheme. Great movie. -

No heaters there back in my day. In fact, fire had just been invented! 😋 It wasn’t a HUGE factor back in the 70’s, but at times you could really tell the difference. The people behind us were great too, and didn’t mind if you stuck your head in for a replay you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Buffalo people are generally awesome! -

You mean like Dan Marino getting in on IPO’s to be happy with the Dolphins……reportedly? 😋 What salary cap? -

Not to go TOO far afield here, but it’s the technology AND the social media. I just watched on IG Mike Evans right arm garb Levi Wallace and tackle him when he realized the ball was uncatchable…..resulting in a penalty on Wallace, of course. I’ll never leave my Bills in my heart, but I could become far less interested in the NFL in general if they don’t start to fix the problem. Full time refs who are 100% invested in what they do and are afraid to lose their jobs would be a good start. The players aren’t driving trucks and working at Jiffy Lubes in the offseason. This should be a full time gig, for EVERYONE! -

It’s somewhat shocking how much the football world/experience has changed since 1973. In those days, there was no Sunday Ticket. There was no ESPN. We didn’t have GIANT Hi-Def flatscreens in every room. I would wait for Monday Night Football to to see the highlights from other games around the league. The world changes around us, and we need to be able to adapt. We went from 80,020 seats to a goal of about 60k. The home experience is unbelievable compared to what it was when The Ralph opened. The stadium experience needs to improve to compete. I’m actually fine with an open or domed stadium as long as they stay in WNY. But I’ll be honest, I’m FAR less likely to make the effort to travel to a winter game in an open stadium. It doesn’t mean I’m less of a fan, it just means I have great options without facing the threat of freezing my arse off. EDIT: I’d be VERY curious to know what percentage of league income comes from actual attendance (tickets, concessions, parking, etc.) vs TV rights and other revenue streams. . -
Rushing yards per attempt leaders - Allen and Singletary in top 10
Augie replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
What encouraged (or maybe fooled?) me against the Panthers was when we could run the ball and eat clock at the end, when they knew it was coming. Maybe confused is a better description! I thought “who are these guys?”
