  1. My wife technically works out of Manhattan and I would join her from time to time (pre-Covid). There were things we loved, then there was the rest. If it’s for you, fine! Not for me. The wife actually turned the job down until they caved on “must live in NYC”. We visited Chicago in the days before the home opener last year. I hadn’t been to Chicago in decades, but it was so much nicer and cleaner than most of Manhattan. I know, all big cities have their good and bad, but the difference was striking. And I would never want to live in Chicago, either.
  2. Maybe he works at Applebee’s and got sick of Dave & Buster’s? I’ve stayed downtown on game weekends, but I never knew it as a kid from the suburbs who left as a 17 year old. I found downtown to be just fine, and I love the strip along Main Street in Williamsville. Still, I know some young people would prefer Manhattan or Buckhead (as my son’s buddies did after college). For me personally, more is not always better. I prefer Buffalo traffic and summers to Atlanta’s!
  3. I can’t lie, I went thru a serious relationship with my cushy Thorlo’s. They are so padded you almost need a bigger shoe to fit properly. When I used to play tennis in them (in the steamy south) they were like a sweat sponge that would squish around in my shoes. (Apologies to those having dinner! ) I eventually changed my pattern to using them for keeping feet warm as I sleep. They are as good as slippers around the house….and you can wear them to bed! I never loved my New Balance, but if you have wide feet they are worth looking into. My favorite is K-Swiss, they are great for exercise or just walking around. NOTE: The Mods might want to keep an eye on Rex and @mead107 in this thread. There’s some kinky stuff going on out there!
  4. The constant stream of HC’s and OC’s was not terribly helpful, either. I’m not really pro or anti Baker, but that whole situation is so Brownie from top to bottom I’ll hope he grows up and can redeem himself in a new situation….in the NFC. If not? Oh, well!
  5. I’m guessing a parachute is involved? 🤷‍♂️ That didn’t make sense to me either, but since you asked, now I’m curious again.
  6. I hope they don’t mention you by name. That would be poor form and have the potential to be very hurtful! Freddie Freeman recently had a similar situation when he returned to Atlanta (like Von opening in LA) and had some seller’s remorse. If I’m already rich, I’m going to do what makes me happy and the difference between $140 Mil or $165 Mil is not changing my world. Life is too short to do things just for money once you are already set. I hope Von gets settled in and falls in love with the culture and the locker room. EDIT: And the FANS! He’s gotta love the fans!
  7. I’m sure he got a good vibe from everyone he met, and that helped him commit. That along with our high end facilities. Oh, and the money. Has anyone mentioned the money? Buffalo “chose to open the checkbook”. Love Von, don’t blame the guy, but he wasn’t coming for the vet minimum.
  8. I have literally been at tailgates with people who had yet to buy their tickets. They wait until the last possible moment, they transfer electronically and they buy at rock bottom. I, however, have airfare, airport parking, car rental and a hotel for a few nights. I pay more than I should for tickets to have a sure thing before I take on all those other expenses. Yep, I’m that guy who gets suckered! I’m just not that bold to make the trip without tix lined up. Old people……🤷‍♂️ 😂
  9. I offer a belated “WELCOME”! Word is some issues caused a very deep dive to be sure about you. I can’t get into specifics. But did you really……..? I kid! Welcome and if it’s IT related, I am NOT your guy! I am confident you will find the site to be well moderated and managed in general.
  10. Which is MUCH better than talking about who to take in the top 5 spots in the draft talk popping up in October!
  11. An actual definition: e·lite /əˈlēt,āˈlēt/ Learn to pronounce noun 1. a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society. "the elite of Britain's armed forces" You don’t get to make up your own definitions. They don’t count.
  12. Your very rational argument is wasted on a troll who refuses to accept rational thought. He either really believes it, or it’s just a game for him. If you are elite, you should win every time. I’m not sure if you are allowed to give up a FG all season, because if you were truly elite you would win very play, every time. This is a waste of time since he doesn’t even understand the meaning of the word “elite”. I’ll not feed that mess any more.
  13. This reminds me of the car ride home from the optometrist with my first pair of glasses. Everything was so crisp and clear and beautiful! I can see why this would be very moving for anyone working on or benefiting from this project.
  14. The funny part is, I think he may have argued this ridiculous point for so long he actually believes it. BTW - Nadal is still down a break in the third set to Mr Fritz. I don’t know who will win this match, but I know who the elite tennis player is. EDIT: Nadal down 2 sets to one, but he’s still an elite tennis player. .
  15. e·lite /əˈlēt,āˈlēt/ Learn to pronounce noun 1. a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society. "the elite of Britain's armed forces" Oh, lookie! Elite may not mean what you want to pretend it means! It does not mean the one and only at the top of the mountain. It means part of a select group that is superior to the rest. It doesn’t mention Super Bowl Champions anywhere! We are in the hunt. We are a favorite. We are indeed elite, but that doesn’t mean we have to win the SB to remain elite. I certainly hope we DO win it, but either way I’ve spent enough time on your little crusade.
  16. So, the 1972 Dolphins have been the only elite team ever? Elite and undefeated do not have the same meaning. THAT is why they play the games.
  17. So, are you saying you’ll be done with this team? Outta here forever kinda stuff?
  18. I’m watching Rafa Nadal losing to some guy named Fritz at Wimbledon right now. That doesn’t mean Nadal isn’t the better tennis player. There are no locks. There are a lot of very good teams, especially in the AFC. The better your team, the better your chances. No guarantees.
  19. Let’s look at this from another angle. We should all agree QB is the most important position, and we have that one locked up long term. What are the other premium positions? I’d suggest LT, CB, edge rusher and WR. We have Dawkins locked up. Tre is a star on a relatively fresh deal returning from injury (so we drafted Elam high). We invested heavily in the draft on DE and hope they develop, but since now is our window we signed a guy named Von Miller for immediate impact. We also traded for Diggs and extended him, plus we have Gabe Davis and Knox. Nobody is going to hit on every draft pick or FA. Cherry picking the few things that didn’t go as hoped is a silly way to judge your GM. I like the ROSTER BUILDING starting with key positions they are doing. Identify your key players at key positions and lock them up long term. To say Beane isn’t a very good GM is like saying Josh is just an OK quarterback. It seems the whole world agrees that Beane is building a very good football team with the emphasis on the right positions. The whole world….except a couple posters here who seem to relish in the attention of being “contrarians”. EDIT: Our highest paid players are QB, CB, WR, LT and Edge. The Pats* had two TE’s and a LB as their highest paid players last season. I like our strategy better. .
  20. I used to be a seat snob, then I sat in the upper deck for the first time a few years ago. Surprisingly good sight lines, especially if you aren’t all the way up or in the corners.
  21. My ego is readily available to take a dent……..for $18+ Million!
  22. We have gone from arguing that Beane is not really a very good GM and is just lucky he has Josh, to maybe we are not THE VERY BEST roster in the league. I can live with that!
  23. Does this mean they reached out directly? Or to his agent, I wonder. The cold shoulder seems to indicate directly, but now is a time to get the agent involved and eliminate the emotional part. THAT is why you have an agent. Again, very “Brownsie”. I don’t like how ANY of this has gone down, but if I’m Baker I’m doing whatever it takes to get my $18 Million and change! Play for the boys in the locker room if that’s what it takes.
  24. We were in Chicago for a wedding right before the opener last season. Absolutely lovely downtown and a lot to see an easy walk from the Hyatt Regency downtown on the water. LOVED the architectural boat tour. It was SO MUCH cleaner and nicer than most of Manhattan it was hard to believe! Now, if only they could stop shooting each other. Every big city is dangerous to some extent, but Chicago has a reputation for a reason. .
  25. It seems to be just a very vocal minority who can’t admit the obvious.
