I’m in wait and see mode. All of college basketball is going to hell with the portal and trying to raise NIL money. Why should I have to come out of pocket to buy/rent some guys to play for my team for a year? I don’t begrudge the players mobility or compensation, I just don’t like resulting product. We used to be proud that every guy who finished his eligibility left with a degree. Now? I don’t even know who half these mercenaries are.

Until he gets upset and stabs him in the back……

As we walked around Manhattan with our 10 year old grandson, we could barely smell the urine and vomit. I guess that is our upside! Have you been there? There is nothing subtle about it. I wish it was just another smell, but it crushes the smells of NYC in places. That’s saying something. Be decent to other people. Don’t subject others to things they may not want themselves or their family to be subjected to. That’s how I see it. It’s not about rights.

I think they all have their place, and we generally know what they are. But there is a lot of gray area. A kid doesn’t taste what you have in your brown bag. But they get the waft, and I don’t like that. But I also think cigars are for golf courses. It all depends. BTW, I really enjoy a hint of someone else’s cigar in proper dosage. It should never be forced upon you. .

I remember parents coming to pick a group of us up from the movies spilling their “roadies” as they slalomed down the roads between snowdrifts. Different times. Not saying better or worse, but different.

When we used to drive to Hilton Head and had to go past the paper mills outside Savannah nobody ever failed to say “what the hell is that smell 😱??? He was 10 in basically rural Georgia. Not Manhattan! .

I will say, we took our 9-10 year old grandson to NYC a couple years ago. I wish it didn’t smell like Woodstock. But it did. He was wise and kind enough to not bring that up. I wasn’t in the mood to go down that road with my young grandson. It’s not my place.

I was at the first game in ‘73. I was wondering, if I could only go to one or the other, the last game at the old place OR the first game in the new place…what would I prefer? If it’s the AFCCG that seals the deal, but otherwise? That would be a tough one for me. 🤷‍♂️ I’d want to say goodbye to the old place, but I can’t wait to see the new place. If they pour beer as slowly as they did at Tottenham, we just might tear the place down on opening day. I’d hate to miss my chance to see it in one piece.

I’m so glad Josh didn’t try to squeeze every last penny out of the team. This could be a whole lot worse if we had a greedy A-hole QB.

We used to sit in the upper deck at Reds games in college. We watched boats go down the Ohio river, and we always had an eye open for the ice cream vendor. It was a pretty chill vibe.

As for the bold, if you guys would smoke more, maybe we could have had a dome? I know who to blame now!

I would like to see him replace Sean Miller at Xavier. I’m sorry, I’m in mourning for the loss of giving a crap about college basketball. I’ll be mildly interested, unlike the NBA which I change channels to avoid. I’ve been saying for a while I don’t mind player mobility or compensation. That’s just fair to me. The portal and NIL just result in a lesser product that I care less about.

I wish I could remember who it was, but just recently I saw one of the greatest ever in his sport just smile, shrug and say and it really doesn’t matter, records are made to be broken. I wish I could remember who it was, because he seemed very sincere and content. I like him more, whoever he is. OK, now I feel like we have a quality plan. 😊

We went to a private school near us once just to see a game, and it’s a lot different when you don’t have a kid out there. Completely angst free! It was supposed to be a varsity game, but we were pretty sure it was JV. We wanted to ask to verify, but we couldn’t. It was just going to be too awkward. “Really? This is really the Varsity team?” 😂

It’s gotten to where I can’t even keep up with the roster from year to year. My sister lives in Appleton, WI near Lawrence University. They enjoy going to those games, and I think I would too. Nobody thinks they’re going to the NBA, they just do it because they enjoy the game and they get an education. Like a better quality high school game. We spent 10+ years of our lives living in gyms between our two boys school, rec league and AAU teams. It just feels good and I enjoy a hot dog and a Diet Coke, my little tradition…..like I needed to get MORE hyped up! 😂

It’s all about the money, for both the coaches and the players. Not only will Miller and his coaches get more, but I heard Xavier has an NIL budget of about $3.1Mil, while Texas is more like $12Mil. The whole thing is broken. I’m not sure if I’ve quit a team, or a sport. I used to go up for a game every year and travel top see them in the Tournament. I didn’t start back after Covid. It’s been going downhill for a while. This seems to be the last straw. .

We started watching “Running Point” with Kate Hudson last night. It’s loosely based on Jennie Buss running the Lakers. Funny stuff once you get what’s going on. We would have finished the first season if it hadn’t gotten late. I think we maybe saw 6-7 of 10 season one episodes. I’m reading there will be a season 2.

Yesterday the Xavier basketball coach, Sean Miller, announced he is leaving for Texas. He was previously the Xavier coach and left for Arizona. He got in trouble at Arizona, and at least one of his guys did prison time. He left, disgraced, but Xavier took him back despite his parting comment that he was going from a Buick to a Lexus. Now he is leaving AGAIN for a bigger school. Yep, I’m done. It’s not just Miller leaving again, it’s also the portal and NIL. They have killed a sport I used to love. Xavier used to be my second team after the Bills. Now? Screw it all……

Apparently I’m doing something right. 🤷‍♂️
