Bengals 1st RD Pick could go back to College?
Augie replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
A few years ago I heard the ‘Bama QB made more than the Eagles QB. That takes some getting used to. I don’t give a rip about college basketball anymore. I’ll still enjoy the NCAA tournament, but I no longer travel to see “my team.” I’ll watch on TV only if it’s convenient. EDIT: I’d still like to know the actual number of first round contracts that have that language. It could be 2-3, or it could be all of them. Are the Bengals just late to the party here, or on the first wave? I’m curious. Sorry if I didn’t follow along close enough. . -

I don’t pretend to be an expert on these things, so I did a little digging. While I read that it’s not unprecedented, I don’t see anything that says how common it is. That is info that would matter to me. How many other teams have that language in the first round picks contract? I think that is important to know before I can form an opinion. I’m in a weird spot here. If the guy does some horrible stuff off the field, I’m OK with him not getting all of his “guaranteed” money. Be a %$#&, lose your money. However, if I’m the player I can see holding out even if I’m a model citizen. “Why do the Bengals think they can start that with me?” Only because it’s the Bengals, I’d love to see him go back to college, collect some NIL and get drafted again next year. Unlike some here, I do not see any teams holding off on drafting him next year for that. You take good football players where you can find them, unless you know your team will also insist on that clause. I’m not saying it’s wise, I’m just saying I went to school in Cincinnati and I learned to dislike the owner intensely. It would amuse me. 😊 -

One player alone, even Josh Allen, cannot overcome dysfunction that starts at the top with the owner, IMO. That’s why Joe Burrow has only been to the playoffs twice in the last five years, and he has 2 top WR’s. -
That didn’t go over well for Kevin Hart.

BEING on this board will forever haunt me! 😊 Good for him!

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
Augie replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Ghost of Al Davis tried to draft him, but the man with the bowl haircut shot that down. -
We like to save him until desperate playoff situations arrive to amp the drama up a bit. I hope this heavy draft on defense gives us more depth when we need it late in the year.

Let’s go ahead and get all this out of the way now. I’m sure that will be the last injury for us.

It’s funny, Fall is kind of my favorite with the crisp weather and changing foliage, but I’ll vote summer by a nose. I know what comes after Fall, and it sucks. I like summer almost as much, but I’m looking forward to rather than dreading what comes next. .

It's Sauce Gardner's turn. Extended through 2030, $120 Million.
Augie replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think you need to protect a young QB first and foremost so he is not physically and emotionally ruined. But yes, he needs reliable targets who can get open. I think if Elam panned out they would have offered him early, as they do, and I doubt it would have been near the Gardner kind of money. Of course we’ll never know since these things don’t happen in a vacuum. Did Benford develop too? There are too many variables for me to spend metal energy on that. -

You can only pay so many top salaries. We have enough big contracts now that we need to be more economical. -

I’m talking about 2nd contracts, not draft status. I think they use a different scheme and don’t need a guy who commands $30mil+. As evidence I present the signing of Benford as our #1 CB at about half the price of Gardner. Sure, everyone would LOVE a lockdown CB, but I think they are happy with the approach they have shown us. -

This is the advantage of the McD scheme that everyone hates so much. You don’t need the Uber Expensive lockdown cover CB’s, so you can afford the rest of the team. EDIT: To be fair, those overly soft cushions kill me too. -
The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
Augie replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let’s be honest, even when that changes, nothing will change. Fans will continue to think they are smarter than they really are. A trophy will only shut them up until after the parade. The Bills FO will be idiots again by the next draft. Count on it. -
I look at the Florida (Sarasota) listings on an almost daily basis. It’s just a hobby more than anything, but inventory is MUCH higher than 1-2 years ago. Things that never flooded got flooded last year with back to back hurricanes , so that may be part of it. It’s far too soon for us to act in any way with so many uncertainties, but it’s nice to see things cool off some. It was INSANE for a while, and they still have spec builders hoping to find suckers to pay a million too much for houses in areas that don’t yet support those values. But they keep advertising hoping to find that one cash buyer to help set a new market.

New thread - JK’s grandson (updated July 16)
Augie replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
There is no more frustrating state than having a loved one, especially a child, in need and knowing it’s largely beyond your control. This family has far too much experience with that already. Sending prayers for faith and a full recovery. -
Respectfully, I think you are missing the point about Kelly, and I know you’re missing the point of the thread. I know it’s an emotional issue, but can we all remember what this is about? Please? Everybody?
-
If his wife forgives him, who am I to even question? Don’t jump to judge people you don’t even know. Can we all please get back to this poor child and support for the family??? .

Predict Most improved/Most likely to regress
Augie replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
So, how do you really feel about women in general, and marriage in particular? 😊 I liked “happy and content with his partner” Josh last season over Bengals playoff game Josh. They are all still people, and the things around you in your life matter. -
OR….. we could be the Bengals and sign TWO WRs to giant contracts, then recruit from the season ticket holder fanbase to fill out the rest of the roster. It might also help with the remaining PSLs. .
-
Some of us learn faster than others, some much slower and some never at all. Regardless, I try not to jump to judgment.

I’m far more impressed by a person who can turn their life around and become a positive force than a person who is really good at throwing a football.

The Social Media stuff sometimes even has a hint of truth to it! Everybody has a cheery story to tell, but it’s not the whole story. My wife went to a sorority reunion at the beach with decades of ladies all renting houses and getting rowdy. My wife’s closest friend showed up and things got interesting. She wanted to hear about everyone’s “real life”, not the lovely FaceBook version. She said “I’ll start! I’ve got one kid in rehab, another in prison and the third one is a doctor. Go figure!” My Facebook page had been blocked for several years for some unknown attempted intrusion before I even realized it. It was no great loss, obviously.

We should get to vote on this. I’d be willing to bet on the outcome!

But as long as it’s on the way……
