Will McD ever have a coaching tree?
BillsShredder83 replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
I actually dig the OP. Interesting point being made about how others perform in your absence, and a great way for ppl in management roles or pushing to obtain that type of role. With that said, I think the bolded is a very unfair way to evaluate a coach. If you're trying to evaluate/differentiate between a handful of guys jockeying for GOAT HC? That'd be a great evaluator. If you're trying to figure out if you have a "good" HC or not, this is a pretty horrible measuring stick. There's been a lot of elite HC's, but only a handful that have had a coaching tree, let alone a successful coaching tree. Belicheck is considered in the conversation for GOAT (less so now than 5 years ago). Even if you went back 5-8 years ago and used this as a measuring stick for him, it would've shown us what we know better today. The only asterisk I'd add there is he was such an arrogant s***head, that I think he intentionally gatekept his best trademark secrets, so that nobody could go on to become competitive against him elsewhere down the road. Basically, set them up for failure by omission. But again, thats an ugly selfish trait to have, and kinda reverts back to what we know better about him now. -

Arm bike machine for cardio? Thats my guess. Not a substitute, but a damn good option when you cant run -

9 TD's is a real anomaly as every other season he had only 1 or 2. The rest of his stats look that way too. Doesnt mean im out on him. Wonder wtf was so different last year than every other year? Huge deviation... like astronomical. LOL was it only because he was fighting for contract, cause it wouldnt shock me and what a lazy bag of **** hahah -

Delusional on compensation. If the offer doesn't hurt, youre not in the same stratosphere and its a garbage intellectual experiment. 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd in '27. Now see how you feel? Im still in, but youre far off the sticker shock its take to land 26 yo Waddle from an in division team who just lost Hill permanently. -

Jon Brown + Josh was so lethal for the intermediate stuff. 20-25 yard chunk plays that got msde with the ease of a 5yd completion. Yes! The deep stuff is cherry on top. We'll need to hit a few to get the full respect... but its a guarantee to back defenders away from the line,as well As have to defend to the sidelines, not just between the hashes. The synergistic effect it would have is immeasurable and plays into the best talents we have on the team. -cooks life easier, and more productive in run game. -cook in space more on his receptions, always a threat for house call -Shakir could start seeing REALLLLL volume. We need a volume guy desperately. That was our "run game" aka chain mover in 2021. -Kincaid sees a much less crowded route tree -
A. The wgr worries are so overblown. Beane isn't thinking about it, and certainly isn't making decisions as a result of it. B. Intentionally putting this out there decreases our leverage in a trade. The worse position were in the more a team is going to want for their asset C. That means the injury is real and a real concern. Could naturally create extra urgency to go after a WR

Laughing at the 2 guys who got caught, while overlooking the other 50% (incredibly conservative) that are putting banned substances in their body year round. Its incredibly naive to look back 10-20 years ago, compare those players to today, and think its nutrition "these guys know WHEN to feed themselves" LOL The demands have exponentially increased for players, theyre putting their body through stresses never seen before. They're just trying not to break down on the side of the road here

Ogunjobi is supposed to be a bit of a run specialist isnt he? Thats a welcomed skill set, while not expecting Wilfork results. Hoecht is a guy Im actually excited about. For all my criticism of Coach lately, I am 100% confident that he will get the most out of him as a chess piece. A Lorenzo Alexander lite is what my impression is (dont think he played under McD though). Sounds suspicious. What was his injury he was rehabbing from last year? I'm leaning towards, No, but have not seen him at all. I guess its possible, he did fall of a cliff hard last year, and isnt THAT old. Mehhh. If he can help us and were talking a 6th and 7th rd swap, he could be depth... but again, only if theyre certain last year was health related

Seriously though, if thats the route we wanted to go, I'd rather try to pay the cheaper price to rent Hendrickson. Riskier, but less requirement overall and leaves the team plenty of options/first dibs if it made sense to give a deal. Beastly pass rush is the one single piece that I think could give the most drastic returns on defense. That said, Im very much on WR Train as priority #1

They need to bring some stability in. Every single ****'ing call and challenge is held to totally different standards, it undeniable. NFL then doubles down, bring in "Gene Statutory" to tell a few million people that've watched football their whole lives how and why they're wrong again! It's insulting, this isnt a court of law, my God dude wipe the slobber of your chin. Why is it so hard for the NFL to admit they got a call wrong and attempt to fix it. The constant doubling down is what I think drives fans crazy, the most. It'd relieve alotta pressure on refs, the league, players, fans. They'd feel heard. Try new things. College football started letting viewers inside the challenge center with them! Its freaking awesomeeeeeeee. My favorite new thing, it'd be so easy to implement. Instead they choose secrecy, "they're too dumb to even understand" LOL. Now that I've typed it out, they remind me of something.... and it's no wonder we hate it. if the NFL was the government, the morning of November 23, 1963 the headline would've been: "OH NO!!! JFK COMMITS SU---DE AT PARADE! REALLY STUPID & SHAMEFUL CITIZENS IN ATTENDANCE SAY 'NO'"

I saw 3 brutal calls last few days. 1. Saturday, Georgia Tech had the most obvious undeniable TD I've ever seen... but went to review, and I'm like aiiiiight, at least they'll fix it here. NOPE! 2. Sunday, Hockenson TD late 4th quarter (convenient time for awful call). It was like they're reviewing it with the goal of trying to figure out how they could call it not a catch!!! 3. Monday, a little flimsy, but the Evans catch where he broke his collarbone. I know all the crap about "surviving the ground", but its sooooo overthought. Where did common sense and skill levels go in making these decisions. Catches it, firmly supported, very controlled, bounced & rolled over still had it, play nearly a second over, hes on his back...... no catch 4. Bonus call. Again less solid than my first two.... but over ruling the first down call against Tampa that was ruled a first down. It was sooooo close, youre talking 10ths of an inch. They review it from this bad camera angle that clearly distorts your ability to determine within tenths of an inch..... OVER RULED. Is it no longer indisputable?!? You dont even have a good view to make an educated guess... but I guess thats indisputable now

LOL I mean we all fantasize about it, but at least act like these free college educations are real! I figured the facade out pretty young, when I saw Leinart trying to improvise in a ballroom dancing class that he CLEARLY had not attended very often! That sounds almost scarier than facing down a blitzing murda'rer like Ray Lewis

Anybody remember what Tre White looked like as a rookie? I honestly cant. Diff scenario completely since Tre was healthy and had a full TC. Man if we ever needed a HR of a draft pick its right now. Beane could use the 'W' too -
Roster Support over the past three years (Beane)
BillsShredder83 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dont have much to add here, but just wanted to say Great posts, and show the other side of the coin, that not many will bring up or acknowledge here (at least, understandably so, right now they won't). Personally, I have been in support of Beane, while admitting plenty of disappointment over, moves or lack thereof, over the last 2 years. When I first opened this thread, I was 100% ready to move on from Beane. @Virgil Im a "fan" of yours, not only for hard work/thoughtful quality threads and responses you put out at the board.... and in no way did I think OP was intended to be misleading or crusading or anything like that. But I'd imagine you feel at least a biiiiiit different after having seen some context in the responses. I literally, just wanted to point out how things are not black/white, even when they may seem that way. Between the response showing Chiefs/Ravens by comparison, I know I feel quite differently than I did at first. Going in and looking at the '24 Draft as a whole, it's been a very unimpressive draft as a whole. We can all agree the ProBowl isnt some elite or impossible feat. 2024 draft had 0 ProBowler's past the 23rd overall pick. While there are certainly some good players in there, even a quick glance at that class will leave most realizing it was slim pickings. Again coming back to this thought "point out how things are not black/white, even when they may seem that way".... another one of my fav posters (username escapes me, I recognize pictures best here) is the one about 'we gave permission to Cook to seek a trade'... I was fired up, trying to imagine our current situation minus Cook now. But the two posts quoted above, bring some very good context. And again, certainly would not state he was trying to mislead, as hes likely the most 'connected' poster here. But just a great reminder that the things we're PO'd about, can be looked at it a completely different light and make a ton of sense. Maybe Beane was trying to show Cook his real value, as a courtesy like 'hey, if that was going right, we'd be the first one to give that to you... but thats not your market'. Id imagine even Cook went through same emotions "trade me?!? $15M, I'll show you".... how would a player know the actual market. Kind of a genius move to let Cook go do that if you're confident in your position.... not only is that great leverage to get a deal done, but its a helluva de-escalation tactic with a guy you want to keep, and make sure that he isn't disgruntled. A different GM and in the same scenario (wanting to retain their guy) could've landed on a 1 year deal at the same dollar amount.... but now they have a disgruntled player who believes he IS being ripped off for the entire year. If Beane IS wrong, he gets additional info to make his decision... hell, maybe somebody wants to pay him $20M and send us a boatload of picks (unlikely, but not the point). Beane still has a ton to prove, and Im firmly on the hot seat with him, pending how this season finishes out. Just wanted to share what I noticed that even in my head I flip-flopped, and realized most likely, neither position was correct about the drafts or Cook or FA, but likely somewhere in the middle. Ohhh, And don't let the folks posting in here who scrolled to the bottom of page 1, clicked post, and then went to the next thread sway your opinion either LOL cause they're in here! TBD is the best sports discussion across any sport/team -
Roster Support over the past three years (Beane)
BillsShredder83 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
People looking at this emotionally is going to happen.... but it completely kills any/all attempts to look at this objectively. I'm screaming WR, as much/more than 99% of the board but..... where was the chance to get a Chase? There wasn't. Theres a good post showing/comparing KC & Baltimores draft to ours, since all 3 were picking in very similar range.... and they all 3 are almost identical. Yes, I f'n hate the Samuel/Knox money too... Samuel was pretty universally looked at as a HR signing here. Knox was much more split, but leaned towards approved. Im furious we are where we are too. DK should certainly be a Bill right now. I'm not here to defend Beane, depending on how this season turns out I could be swayed towards firing him. At the same time, people posting emotionally when their is a solid chunk of really good context, soooooo close to OP's. It's intentionally/unintentionally ignorant, hitting send on posts like that ^^^ -
Roster Support over the past three years (Beane)
BillsShredder83 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
In total fairness. There are ZERO Pro Bowlers drafted after #23 overall in the entire draft! Thats kinda mind blowing, even if it was only 1year ago. A quick glance as I dont have time to dig in, is that 2024 was a pretty weak Draft overall. That doesnt fully let Beane off the hook; but Baltimore & KC having similar results as us makes it much less egregious. -

BillsShredder83 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know it won't be (to be fair, the board may not have the capability) BUT THIS SHOULD BE PINNED AS THE 2ND COMMENT IN THE POST. I know several posters would just pick the narrative that fits their narrative and crusade with it... but this is a well done post that brings a lot of context! The only fair way to look at this, is to look at both of these posts. I was furious until I got to this one, and Im certain there are improvements to make from all 3 of these teams. I'd be really interested in seeing the FA Side of this post, which is likely the more damning comparison. I'm not assigning work to anyone, just adding a thought. I think a great way to add additional context would be to chart out the teams who picked in top 3 of each round too, and then ONLY EXAMINE the picks made a round down, so how the bad teams picked BEHIND US. i.e END OF 1ST RD -> TOP OF 2ND // BOTTOM 2ND -> TOP OF 3RD ETC ETC -

BillsShredder83 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thats awesome! We're not scoring 30 on Spags, nor on Fangio... and we're certainly not doing it in back2back weeks in January. We have Josh Allen, and have neutralized him. Allowing defenses to crowd the line, between the hashes, and passing lanes over the middle, the only place we can complete a pass. Lastly, McD is not getting a SINGLE resource from me on that D. He got all of our premium picks there this year. All the extensions on that side. Not only do we not look better, but we look worse. If we could trade a 1st rd pick for the '85 Bears I'm still saying no, until he proves (starting year 9 maybe?!?) that he can put those resources to good use. Im not exaggerating when I say, if we sent Beane out with the ability to use all our draft picks over the next 2 years to trade for guys on defense.... we still don't get results anywhere near what we're paying out. Certainly not in 2025 we aren't, but we might even somehow turn out better in 2026 on that side of the ball. So no, 0 resources for the defense, we're multiple positions and a full scheme away from success on that side. They are what they are. Maybe get some meat off the bone before we throw it in the trash for another. We're a #1 away from an unstoppable offense. Thats the way you roll at trade deadline That'd be awesome for the rest of the regular season. This offense, is NOT scoring 30 vs playoff defenses. Certainly not past WC. What makes anyone think we're even 2 high end players on defense away from a "good" playoff defense? Definition of insanity. -

That second statement contradicts the first, more than it supports it like you're suggesting. They are a bad team, with no QB and MAJOR cap problems, and two WR's needing paid out. You could be right and Olave stays, but Shaheed will certainly be available. Their choices are: 1. Somehow be even further cash-strapped without a QB. AKA the Bengals without a Burrow (lol) 2. Keep 1 premier WR, relieve cap problems, and stack up on assets they can use rebuild with their new QB, or potentially need to try and move up They're by far the best team out of the ones jockeying for #1 overall, I could easily see them winning at minimum 2 or even 3 games rest of season. That makes drafting their guy that much tougher.... OR you get rid of a guy who might help you accidentally win one of those games right now... secure your spot in top 3 picks,' and again, have extra assets to build for future. Obviously I'm biased in that I want one (hell, i want both), but they would have to be the most dumbbbb franchise in existence to try and hang onto both, for SOOOO many reasons: short, medium and long term. Theyre the Saints, so would it shock me? No. But I'd still be shocked. I'd be willing to blow them outta the water with a deal that makes the decision an easy choice. Also, I truly believe Keon getting thrown in with high draft picks, could serve them very well. They're a team that could afford to line him up in the slot and let him grow there, while he's cheap -

Agreed. I'm not in the business of killing him on any one guy (which is probably too lenient, especially w/ DK, who we dropped ball on twice), but the approach as a whole to the position has not been serious, which is even a worse indictment than cherry picking individual guys we could've had. I'm still behind Beane, he hasnt been perfect, def been mistakes, but I think he's been overall a net positive. He's seemed to learn at a lot of his mistakes, except for WR position, which is frustrating. What I will say is i keep seeing people say "Will his pride and that WGR segment keep him from making an acquisition." If that were the case internally (we'd never hear that), you have to move on. If nobody is to be had at the deadline, but hes burning up the phones, thats different IMO.... As far as the pride thing/WGR ---- I think it's pretty easy to make a move and say, "We expected better growth from our young guys (Keon) at the position, we still believe that's possible, but we needed to make a move that made us better TODAY". If theres a deal to be had that we miss out on, and it's known inside the FO, it was him wanting to save face.... then even I'm 100% out. That would be incredibly* foolish, and I'd hope Josh has enough cajones to call it out (internally) as well.
