Good luck Kenny!! Praying for a speedy recovery. -
Yes and no. Allen's contract extension will no doubt be in the top 5 for QBs, but once they pick up his 5th year option, his cap hit for this year will be nowhere near top 5 and next year's will be the average salaries of the 10 highest paid QBs this year. We have 2 more seasons before Josh's cap hit is top 5. If we were to sign Watt to a 2 or 3 year contract, now's the perfect time to do so before we have to pay big bucks for Josh. I would also venture to guess they will restructure Mitch Morse's contract or cut him. KC has several high priced players and they've been the best team in football over the last 2 seasons. Last year their 8 highest paid players ate up $115.6 million, leaving less than 2 million per player on average for the rest of the roster. They're going to have to do something this year though as their 9 highest paid players are slated to have a combined $157.3 million cap hit. If you can draft well and find some cheaper plug and play players that pan out well for the team you can be successful being top heavy. Your margin of error, of course, is less. You better have to have a really good scout team and GM if you're going to do it and we have both.

So Davis wouldn't be able to do more with his targets as he gains experience? My guess is he could do more with increased time with Josh and experience on the field with less targets. He also won't see 2 targets or less in 4 of 6 games like he did at the start of the season, he's not a rookie anymore. His targets will go up, not down. If it takes away from others, it may not be such a bad thing. He averaged more yards per catch, by a pretty good margin, than any other starting WR on the team.

Especially when that talent is only 30 and is better than our current player at that position. I don't want to make a trade for him, but if he becomes a FA take a shot at him. He also brings with him Super Bowl winning experience.
-
The bolded simply isn't true. Brown easily would've put up over 600 had he not missed 7+ games. Davis had 599 yards this year as a rookie, do you believe his stats won't Increase with additional experience and game time on the field?
-
I'm not advocating trading for him and taking on his current contract, but in saying that... I don't believe targets necessarily equals production especially when you're playing with 2 of the most inaccurate QBs in the league last year, one being a rookie. It's not like he had a bunch of drops. From looking it up it was less than 5. He came into 2020 averaging over 800 yards and 5 TDs a year. That's with a bunch of different starting QBs in his career, none that were as close to as good as Josh is right now. I think he's a far better security blanket for Josh than Knox is. We could also put both on the field to create matchup problems for opposing defenses. I wouldn't object to offering 3-5 million a year for a 2-3 year contract, if he declines the offer so be it. He'll only be 30 when the season starts, which is younger than both Gronk & Kelce(Not stating he's as good, just younger than both).

I'm not saying Ertz is a stud TE anymore, but when you only have 288 yards(Ranked 34th for TEs & behind Ertz)for the year and can't block to save your life, you don't look like Kittle when compared to someone off the street. One difference between the two is Knox had a QB who completed nearly 70% of his passes and finished 2nd in the MVP race and the other had 2 QBs who were just horrible at throwing the ball this year. Wentz completed 57.4% of his passes and had a 72.8 QB Rating, Fields completed 52.0% of his throws with a 77.6 QB Rating. Neither finished above 32nd in either category. I'm not advocating for Ertz over Knox, but at the same time I think it's time for the team to strongly consider moving on from Knox being the #1 TE. JMO

I agree. Also Dobbins had 1/6 of his rushing yards in a meaningless week 17 game. 16% of his yearly total in 1 game. Give Zack his offensive line and Dobbins our offensive line and let's see what happens. My guess is their stats flip. -
If it's the JJ Watt from his first 5 seasons(75.5 sacks), I'm all for it. But his last 5 seasons he's netted 1.5, 0, 16, 4 & 5 sack seasons while missing the equivalent of 2 full seasons. His leadership and work in the community I'm sure would be stellar, but I'm betting he goes to Pitt to play with his brothers or someone over plays for him.

Carson Wentz on the move?
LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to whatdrought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Foles started the last 6 games, including all 3 playoff games, going 5-1. His one loss was the last game of the year when they only played him and the other starters a few drives. The 5-1 record under Foles compared to the 11-2 record Wentz put up doesn't look any different except for the number of games played. And 3 of Foles wins were in the playoffs, two of which Foles and the Eagles put up big numbets. Wentz is 3 games above .500 overall with only 35 wins through his 5 year career. The Eagles have made the playoffs 3 different years while Wentz has been there. He's started only 1 game, attempted a mere 4 passes, completing only 1 before yet again leaving the game injured. With what he's getting paid he's got to stay on the field & win, especially during the postseason. -
I was torn between voting for #1 or #2. I settled for #2, but I personally would be inclined to give a little extra if it meant he stayed. Cut Brown and let Davis and McKenzie pick up the slack, like they did for the half a season that Brown missed. Several of those games we were really clicking on offense. You can use him as our kick and punt returner to validate paying a little extra for him.

I get ya. But let's not forget Allen threw 2 picks in the 2nd half in Arizona, which swung momentum, and on the 2nd one wasted great field position at mid field down 26-23. The Cardinals averaged 26.6 points a game, which is what they had(26) before the hail mary. It was definitely a team loss. Against Tennessee I didn't think the defense didn't play bad at all. They only gave up 334 yards, held Henry 57 yards on 19 carries and held Tannehill to 195 yards passing. Again it was the turnovers that killed us. First one happened right out of the gate on an interception that was returned to the Bills 16 yard line. 2nd interception was a killer down 21-10 and after the defense made Tennessee punt on their first possession of the 2nd half. They were on a 14 play 64 yard drive and Butler got his 2nd pick of the game returning it 68 yards to our 12 yard line. 3rd one was a fumble on a kickoff return that Tennessee recovered and returned to the 18 yard line. That's 3 TD drives of 16, 12 & 18 yards off of turnovers in that game. Without the turnovers it's 21-16 game and one of those turnovers almost for sure took points off the board for us. The defense didn't play great, but IMO they were not the main problem that night.

2 of the 3 losses(KC & Ten) were games postponed because of COVID and the first 2 games Josh played after separating his shoulder, requiring him to wear a LBers harness to keep the shoulder stable. Something Matt Hasselbeck has said makes you inaccurate as a thrower(offense was a problem in both games). The 3rd loss should've been a win, but we ultimately lost on the hail mary play.

I bet Diggs will ask for a new contract
LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to DCofNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok. That makes way more sense. -
What this game showed was he can't be the entire offense, something even KC doesn't ask of Mahomes. It also showed an offensive line getting blown up over and over again. Their defense had a playoff record 30 pressures Sunday night. Josh accounted for 88.57% of the team's yards during the playoffs(868/980), 56.42% of all the rushing yards during the playoffs(145/257) and all 5 offensive TDs. If anything this game, the playoffs as a whole and this season might have shown that he can pretty much ask for whatever he wants. He's pretty much the whole offense.

So everyone is going to glance right over the 50-60M a year for Josh? Look no question Josh deserves a fat extension, but 50-60M a year? After Sunday's loss I needed a good laugh. Josh will probably get around 35-40M a year, maybe. Troll post or not, the number you gave is some funny ****. -
Greatest Plays in Bills History

Steve Christie's onside kick in the 2nd half against the Oilers in the comeback game comes to mind. He made the kick and recovery. I think it gave the team the momentum and hope that they could comeback and win. -

On the offensive side I think the comments you made reflect a prisoner of the moment mentality. First off they have put the offense on Josh's shoulders in every game this year, with the exception of the first Pats* game. Secondly let's not forget Josh had all but 42 of 397 total yards in the Colts game and accounted for all 3 TDs in the game, while completing almost 75% of his passes and had a QB Rating north of 120. In reality we just played two defenses that finished in the top 8 in the regular season and were run heavy teams that chewed up clock and gave our offense only about 25 minutes on the field in each game. That doesn't even include a gameplan that featured nothing but passing in the first half of the Ravens game with brutal winds to throw and kick in. I don't think any NFL QB would've had a flourished in those conditions. The Chiefs game will be different than the Ravens game in that their defense isn't nearly as good and the weather will be a lot better to throw in with temps in the mid 30s and winds forecasted to be light at 5-10 MPH. IMO the offense will be fine on Sunday and our defense is going to give up some yards. It will come down to whether our defense can cause a turnover or 2 and force them to kick FGs on a couple of their other drives. -
Do you like the term “Bills Mafia”?
LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to Lionel Hutz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some people need to lighten up a bit. If it was so bad national sports outlets wouldn't be using it all the time right now. I love the name and it's gotten so much press since we started reaching the playoffs over the last 4 years. It's so unique, we're so unique in that no other team's fans have/are getting so much air time on national tv. The NFL loves it, sports talk loves us, hell even the announcers love us. And a lot of good has come from the people in Bills Mafia. The lastest..... -
Totally agree with you on this. Our oline is far better at pass blocking than run blocking. We need to at least run enough to keep the defense honest and set up the play action passes, which have worked well in games we at least attempt to establish a running game. I don't see why Singletary shouldn't carry the rock more, he showed great promise the second half of last year. He should be getting around 12-15 carries a game right now. I'd love to see Williams get activated for this game to see what he can do. He looked really good against what was the #1 ranked defense entering week 17.

No team has ever finished 17-3. Several Super Bowl winners finished the regular season 13-3, but all were #1 seeds with the exception of 2 teams. Both of those teams finished as #2 seeds and unfortunately both went on to beat us in the Super Bowl. They were the 1990 Giants and the 1992 Cowboys. https://athlonsports.com/nfl/ranking-every-super-bowl-champion
